Captain of Women Football League side, Samaria Ladies, Gifty Acheampong, has stated that  Black Stars General Captain, Asamoah Gyan is his role model.

In an interview on Floodlight Sports on Angel 102.9FM, the player said he always look up to the former Sunderland striker for inspiration while on the field.

“The player I look up to in Ghana is Asamoah Gyan. I like his confidence and striking roles…,” she said in an exclusive interview on the show.

She said she has always focused on scoring goals just as Asamoah Gyan does.

To her, it is imperative that the government provides the necessary support for women’s football adding that the division has more to offer.

One of the areas worthy of investment as far as women’s football is concerned, she muted, is transportation.

“We would want the Association to invest in transport system for the female clubs that it will go a long way to help all the female clubs…,” she said.

Ms Acheampong further commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for securing a deal from the government to help the game.

“This YEA initiative will really ginger as do well and we are really excited about this move. We are very grateful to the GFA and Government for making us part of this…,” she added.

Legendary Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari is reportedly keen on moving to play in the South African Premier Soccer League next season.

The 35-year-old has been without a club since ending his short stint with Spanish second division outfit Albacete last year.

The former AC Milan and Inter Milan midfielder has been heavily linked to Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts Of Oak.

A few months ago, there were reports that the Phobians had signed Muntari but the hierarchy of the capital based club rubbished the purported acquisition.

But according to Africa Soccer Zone Sulley Muntari – who is a free agent – is Keen to play in the South African top-flight next season – news that will surely alert the likes of Sundowns and Pirates

Muntari has also played for Udinese, Pescara in Italy, Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna, Ittihad in Saudi Arabia and Portsmouth in England where he won the FA Cup in 2008.

The hardworking midfielder, who featured for Ghana at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cup tournaments, won the Champions Leaguewith Inter Milan in 2010.

Former Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan has called on football enthusiasts to put the unfortunate Gyan penalty miss in the 2010 World Cup game against Uruguay behind them and forge ahead.

Ghana were one kick away from advancing to the semi-finals at the Mundial after Dominic Adiyiah’s header was handled on the goal line Luiz Suarez.

But the resulting penalty kick taken by Asamoah Gyan in the last minute of the extra time hit the crossbar despite the Uruguayan goalkeeper going the wrong way.

July 2 marked the 10th yesr and football enthusiasts still bash Gyan for failing to convert the kick. A victory would have seen Ghana being the first country to reach the last four in a World Cup tournament.

Speaking to Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi, Annan stated that: “It pains me when some Ghanaians criticize Asamoah Gyan for the Penalty miss against Uruguay.

” It’s so sad because we all knew he was our first penalty taker but that’s football, you can’t score all the time.

“Appiah didn’t go to Gyan to take the ball from him, he went there to motivate him to score,” he concluded.

Asamoah Gyan remains Ghani’s all time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances after having his debut with the Black Stars in 2003.

Real Mallorca will be without the services of left back, Lumor Agbenyenu when they travel to the Wanda Metropolitano to encounter Atletico Madrid.

The 23-year-old Ghana international is still nurturing an injury and would not be available for selection as manager, Vicente Moreno, seeks a victory over Atletico Madrid away from home.

Goalkeeper Emmanuel Osei Kwame has credited the team’s strength in terms of goalkeeping to the leadership style of his teammate and captain of the side – Felix Annan and unity in the goalkeeping department.

According to the former Inter Allies shot-stopper Annan has been Professional and that has brought unity among the goalkeepers despite the competition for the number one spot.

Osei has had a stiff competition from his teammates and he revealed to Kotoko Express App the impact Felix Annan has had on him and their relationship.

“We are all like brothers in a family, each of us is able to correct each other without taking offence. I am not getting the playing time that I wished for but we are all in good terms,” Osei Kwame told Kotoko Express App.

“Felix is my captain and I run to him anytime I have some challenges. I have learnt a lot from him since I joined the club because of the consistency he has had in his career. What is surprising about him is that, despite what he has achieved, he shows no signs of ego.”

“We do not joke with our training sessions but because of the bond between him, Kwame Baah and the rest of the goalkeepers, every session feels like fun. “

“Our goalkeepers trainers are the best and the four of us push each other to do more and to be better. I have experience in the league from my time with Inter Allies but as a professional, you never stop learning until your last training session to your retirement, so the secret to our goalkeeping success is the unity among us.”

Asante Kotoko Board of Directors on Friday visited the Anane Boateng Stadium for inspection after they had visited the team’s training facility at Adako Jachie.

Board member Alhaji Lamine revealed that the hierarchy is content with pitch at Adako Jachie although other structures are not the best.

The board of Directors of the Porcupine Warriors after a successful meeting visited the team’s training complex at Adako Jachie to witness the ongoing works on the land.

The project, is in two phases i.e. structural and foundation work with the latter been the pre fabricated structure expected from Turkey. The project will take six months to be completed after its commencement.

It will boast of four playing fields, 8 unit hostels among a host of other modern-day facilities.
