Asante Kotoko Board of Directors after a meeting on Friday, July 3, 2020, visited the Adako Jachie training complex and proceeded to Abrankese to inspect the Anane Boateng Stadium for a possible take over.

Asante Kotoko, since its formation on August 31, 1935, have adopted a number of state-owned facilities with the Jackson park and most especially Baba Yara Sports stadium as their home venue which has brought fond memories for the former Africa champions.

Despite the well-documented history of the club, it cannot boast of its own stadium. This has impressed on the life patron of the club to instruct the new board of directors to build a stadium for the club.

However, the Board of Directors earlier on Friday, July 3 held a meeting to discuss the well-being of the club and after the meeting visited the AdakoJachie training complex, the Anane Boateng Stadium as well as the club’s secretariat at Odeneho Kwadaso.

Board Member, Alhaji Abu Lamin during the inspection at the Anane Boateng told Oyerepa FM that, they are yet to take a firm decision on whether to acquire the already built stadium or start a new stadium on their own.

“We are currently making an analysis. We are on inspection, we have already visited Adako Jachie and decided to inspect Abrankese (Anane Boateng Stadium) to make the best decision for Asante Kotoko. We will inspect the secretariat and after we will sit on it and make known our decision to the media”

“We are not doing this because of our acceptance to participate in Africa, we are thinking and trying to give something good for Kotoko so the fans should give us some time and we will come out with a good decision”

“The Adako Jachie’s pitch isn’t bad but the structures there are very bad but as I said, we will sit down and come out with something good for the club”

“We can’t give a decision on the Anane Boateng Stadium now but we will surely take a good decision on it soon”

The tour of the stadium is in line with plans to purchase the facility to be used for the Asante Kotoko Academy project as well as the construction of a club house and Hostels for the players.

Delivering a strong youth team will be beneficial to the senior team as Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has directed that no signings should be made for a period of one year.

Meanwhile, the Anane Boateng Sports Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Kumasi, built by Mr Kwabena Kesse the C.E.O of Kessben Group of Companies Ghana at Abrankese near Kuntenase in the Bosomtwe District of Ashanti Region.

The stadium was the home venue of Kessben (which was rechristened Medeama after it changed ownership) of the Ghana Premier League.

The stadium holds 12,000 spectators and opened in 2007.

Samuel Anim Addo who is the agent of Mathew Anim Cudjoe says the ball is in Asante Kotoko’s court if they wish to re-sign the teenager. 

Mathew Anim Cudjoe, 16,  has returned to his parent club Young Apostles after the expiration of 6 months loan move with the Porcupines.

The youngster in December 2019 penned a loan deal with the Reds with expired on June 30, 2020.

In an interview with Kumasi based Wontumi TV, when asked if the Anim Cudjoe will play for Kotoko again, the Ghana Football Association Executive Council member Samuel Anim Addo said in the interest of the boy, if he has to play for any team in Ghana then it will be the Porcupine Warriors.

He further indicated that it is Kotoko’s chance to lose Cudjoe and it is their own chance to miss out on him if they so wish.

Anim Cudjoe who has attracted attention from several clubs in Europe due to the talent he posses his manager disclosed that despite the boy waiting for European contract they are still open for negotiations.
He added that the Porcupines know what the Cudjoe can bring on board and they are open for negotiations.

Contrary to reports that if Mathew Cudjoe is to re-sign for Kotoko he will pen only a six months contract, the agent “it is not true”.

The highly-rated youngster Mathew Cudjoe made his debut for Kotoko against Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium in the 2019 President Cup where the Porcupines defeated the Phobians to lift the trophy.
He featured six times in the truncated Ghana premier league, scoring once which came against Ebusua Dwarfs at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Mathew Cudjoe was discovered during the maiden edition of the Baby Jet U-16 tournament which was organized by Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan in 2018.

Former Ghana international Derek Boateng has narrated how he was bribed – when he was playing for Liberty Professionals – by Hearts Of Oak fans to miss a Ghana Premier League encounter.

The former Fulham midfielder divulged that after featuring in four games for the Scientific Soccer Lads, the supporters of the Rainbow Club approached him to grease his palms in order not to play in their next game – which was against Hearts Of Oak.

Boateng disclosed that his impressive outings at the Dansoman-based club scared the supporters of Hearts and they resorted to bribed him ahead of their clash in 1999.

 
He revealed that he pocketed the money but was already on his way out of the country to undergone a trial at Greek side Kalamata F.C before they contacted him.

“I remember when I started playing for Liberty Professionals, my mum told me that if I play against Hearts of Oak, she will not allow me to eat in the house [laughs].” He told Nathaniel Attoh on the Joy Sports Link.

“We knew Liberty Professionals was the place to start your career so that was why I moved there. You know I played only four games for Liberty Professionals.” 

“The fifth game I was supposed to play was against Hearts of Oak but I had to go to Greece to sign my first professional contract. I was being played as a number 10 and I was on fire,”

“Some of the die-hard Hearts of Oak fans called me to give me some money not to show up for that game. I took that money but they didn’t know that I was already scheduled to travel to Greece before the game on Saturday. It was good money. I left on Friday.”

*They thought it was the money that made me stay away but at that time I was already done with Ghana football.”

Boateng also had stints with Gatefe, Eibar, Rayo Vallecano, FC Koln,etc.

He capped 47 times for the Black Stars of Ghana

Ghana coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has been Ghc180,000 rich today, July 4, 2020, after Asante Kotoko board wired the debt owed him into his account.

The Porcupines were found guilty after the Ghana FA player and coaches Status Committee ruled that he was wrongfully dismissed by the Kumasi-based giants.

However, Kumasi-based Fox FM reports that Asante Kotoko has officially settled the above amount to start their mandate on a clean note.

The Player Status Committee of the Ghana FA ruled last year that the Porcupine breached the terms of his contract. The ex-Ghana international was sacked in July last year, just nine months into his three-year contract.

He dragged the club to the Ghana Football Association demanding his 2 years salary, league trophy cash, and CAF Confederations Cup group stage entitlements.

However, Myfabulousonline last month reported that, Akonnor has agreed to accept a sum of GHc 180,000, choosing to forgo 184,000 from the appeal hearing after meeting with Alhaji Lamin..

Ghanaian music icon Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale has called on all his fans yo support Asante Kotoko following the appointment of his ‘god father ‘ Kofi Amoa-Abban as Board member of the Reds.

Shatta wale recently revealed his support for the Phobians after he set Social Media on fire by posting in a Hearts Of Oak Umbro replica Jersey.

Kofi Amoa-Abban was on Monday, appointed onto the Asante Kotoko new board to steer affairs of the club.

And, the director’s appointment has made Shatta switched camp from Hearts Of Oak to sworn rivals Asante Kotoko.

Chief Executive Officer of Ashanti Gold Emmanuel Frimpong has rated Asante Kotoko as the best in the country in Ghana but claims his side is bigger than Hearts of Oak.

The debate as to which club is the greatest has lingered on since time immemorial. Supporters and officials of the two most glamorous clubs in Ghana – Asante Kotoko and Hearts Of Oak have always argued about it. They have always used the supporting base and trophies won to back their arguments.

But Frimpong who recently took over from Frederick Acheampong as CEO of the Miners believes that the Porcupine Warriors is the greatest club in Ghana, contending that his side is a notch higher than the Phobians

“Asante Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana but AshantiGold is bigger than Hearts of Oak,” he told – Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.

Ashanti Gold has been given the green light to represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Former Black Stars player Samuel Johnson has attributed the dwindling fortunes of the Black Stars to the nation’s criticism of the match bonuses of the players.

Ghana has failed to rediscover the golden year of 2010 where the Stars managed a quarter final berth in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

A painful defeat to Uruguay in the quarterfinals kicked the Black Stars out of the tournament after displaying some great football throughout the tournament.

Ghana were admired by many in the world due to qualify of game the Black Stars exhibited in South Africa.

However, the Black Stars lost the support from Ghanaians in the next World Cup held in Brazil. The players forced for the payment of their 100,000 dollars appearance fee which angered many football enthusiasts.

Ghanaians indicated that the players were not patriotic and were only there for the money they will receive and not to play any good football.

Speaking to Kumasi based Akoma 87.9 FM the former Black Stars international stated; “I think our focus on the bonuses of the stars brought the team down. They didn’t have the support they used to enjoy during the World Cup. If you look at the injury situation of Akaminko while playing for Ghana, it tells you how dangerous the profession is.

“We were too focused on their bonuses and that made them lose the goodwill of the people.”
