The Ghana football Association after their Executive Council meeting on Tuesday have announced that Ghana Women’s Premier League clubs will pocket $160,000 from the Covid-19 fund this month.

The 16 top flight clubs will get $10,000 each from the fund, whiles the 72 women’s Division One Regional Clubs will share $60,000 among themselves.

This will be seen as huge relief for the clubs following the unexpected financial difficulties faced due to the impact of COVID-19.

The outbreak of the Coronovirus pandemic forced the Ghana Football Association to cancel the 2019/2020 football season due to the government measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

The decision forced clubs to release players from camp with some teams owing salaries while some also adopted pay cut to be able to remain financially strong.

The Ghana football Association has announced a sum of $360,000 has been allocated to all Division One League clubs from the FIFA Covid-19 fund.

The 48 clubs will pocket $7500 each from the fund.

An initial amount of $240k will be shared amongst the clubs this month with the remaining $120k to come in January 2021.

Each DOL club is set to pocket $5000 this month with an additional $2500 to be given in January 2021.

This latest development comes as a massive boost for club owners and is expected to ease the financial challenges the clubs may have encountered as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak bringing football activities to a standstill.

The comprehensive package is all-inclusive with every product under the FA becoming beneficiaries.

The Ghana Football Association has announced the disbursement procedure for the FIFA COVID-19 Relief Fund with the payment set to start this month.

The country’s football governing body is availing a total $27000 to all the 18 clubs in the top flight division as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to bite hard at football.

Therefore each Premier League club is set to receive $15,000 from the kitty.

However an initial amount of $180k will be shared this month while the remaining $90k will be made available in January 2021.

The release of the money is expected to help ease the financial challenges the clubs may have encountered as a result of the CoronaVirus bringing football activities to a standstill.

Futsal and Beach Soccer will also be beneficiaries of the package as well as the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana as well as the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) will also be beneficiaries.

Also captured an an insureance package for all players in the Ghana Premier League, Women’s Premier League and the Division One League.

The Ghana FA did not leave out Match Commissioners, Cameramen & Women, Referees, Venue Media Officers (VMO) as well as the Security Services Football and Coaches.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), in the exercise of its powers under Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes 2019, has fixed the 26th ordinary session of Congress for Thursday, August 27, 2020.

The decision was taken at Tuesday’s Council meeting at the GFA Headquarters in Accra.

However, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant limitations imposed under the Imposition of Restrictions Act, 2020 (Act 1012) on public gatherings, the meeting cannot be held the usual way, where Congressmen and women gather at a venue for their deliberations and decision making.

It would be recalled in a bulletin (No.1 of 2020) addressed to all Companies and the media, the Registrar of Companies, pursuant to the power conferred on her by Section 378(2) of the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992), directed that all companies may hold their Annual General Meetings (AGM) electronically.

Consequently, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), having its number of Congress delegates exceeding the limit of One Hundred (100) persons, will apply and conduct its Congress via Online Video Conferencing subject to clearance from the Registrar of Companies on August 27, 2020.

In compliance with Article 31 of the GFA Statutes 2019, members of the GFA will be sent the formal convocation of Congress in writing accordingly.

Family of our late former Captain and Team Manager, Opoku Afriyie has released the details for the one-week memorial.

An announcement released by the family on Wednesday said the memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8.

It also stated that the event will take place at Kotei Twumduase in Kumasi in house number AK-624-8613. 

Opoku Afriyie, who was affectionately known as Bayie, passed on, on March 29. The lethal forward made his name for us before signing for rivals, Hearts of Oak prior to ending his footballing career. 

He won the Premier League Top Scorer Award in 1979 and 1981 and came eighth in the French magazine African Footballer of the Year in 1982. 

Opoku Afriyie was among 20 other Ghanaians nominated by CAF out of a total of 200 African footballers for the title of the best African player of the last 50 years.

He grabbed the headlines in 1978 by scoring twice to help the Black Stars account for Uganda in the Afcon final. 

After hanging up his boots, Opoku took up roles as team manager and welfare officer of the Black Stars and also worked as Team Manager for the Porcupines in 2003.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has tentatively set the first week of October for the commencement of the 2020/2021 football season.

The decision was arrived on Wednesday July 15, 2020 when the hierarchy of the football governing body held their all-important meeting to discuss the way forward after the previous season was annulled.

However, the Ghana FA will be seeking for direction from the Government of Ghana and the Ministry of Health on the future of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ghana FA unanimously truncated the 2019-20 football season on health grounds. The season was put on hold after the Akufo Addo government placed a ban on social gatherings until July 31, 2020.

The Executive is expected to review the restrictions but it is still unclear whether the ban on contact Sports would be eased.

Per the ExCo’s discussion, if government eases the restrictions on contact Sports, the new season will start in October and end in May 2021.

The Ghana FA is yet to officially release the calendar for the coming season.

King Faisal FC Chief Executive Officer Anwar Sadat has expressed his side’s readiness to enter into negotiations to capture Asante Kotoko player Ibrahim Osman.

Osman was loaned to Isha Allah Boys prior to the commencement of the truncated 2019-20 Ghana Premier League season. He had a fantastic season with Faisal been the most important player of the side.

The attacking midfielder netted 8 goals in his 14 appearances for King Faisal .

In an interview with Kumasi-based Kessben FM, Sadat disclosed that the side is ready to splash cash to secure the talented midfielder on permanent basis from their city rivals.
 

“Many of the players came on loan especially Ibrahim Osman. For Ibrahim, we are ready to negotiate with Kotoko,” he said on Kessben FM.

“But the problem is who to approach at the club. Because there’s been a change of management at the club we don’t know who is charge form. But immediately we identify the person we will go to the negotiation table and begin the process.

“We will look at the best option, if it’s a matter of extending the loan or there is a possibility of signing him out-rightly from the club. We will see.”

Osman’s loan stint at King Faisal FC is expected to expire on July 31, but reports indicate Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu has decided to recall him back into the team for next season’s campaign.

Osman joined the Porcupines from Kumasi-based Division-One side, Asokwa Deportivo in May 2018.
