Managing players is different from managing your Business – Sarfo Gyamfi tells Kotoko Board and Management

Former Asante Kotoko management member, Sarfo Gyamfi has taken a swipe at the Board of Directors and Management of the club, emphasising that managing players are entirely different from their personal businesses.

The hierarchy of the Porcupine Warriors have come under immense pressure following the abysmal performance of the club in this year’s Caf Champions League and the Ghana Premier League.

The situation worsened when the Management of the Reds sacked head coach of the side Maxwell Konadu after 1-0 defeat to Great Olympics in Accra.

While some fans are blaming the players, others believe that the management – who enjoyed massive support after their appointment have failed when it comes to managing the playing body to get the needed results.

A section of the club’s followers have also indicated that the Board of Directors cannot escape blame.

Sarfo Gyamfi, affectionately known as ‘Black President ‘ has indicated that he is not enthused about the performance of Board of Directors and Management.

“I have not been too happy about the performance of the Board and Management. They should enhance their performance. I won’t put so much blame on the players.

“The Management and the Board needed the experienced player with practical experience to guide them.

“Managing players is not like managing a private business, ” Sarfo Gyamfi told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

The Ghanaian giants failed to qualify to the group stage of this year’s Caf Champions League after losing to Al Hilal over COVID -19 issues.

They have now been paired against Algeria’s ES Setif for the Caf Confederation Cup playoff.

In the local scene, they occupy 9th position on the league log and will be playing Liberty Professionals on Monday in a matchday 8 battle.

Dreams FC names Serbian trainer Vladislav Viric as new head coach

Dreams FC have appointed Serbian trainer Vladislav Viric as their new Manager.

Prior to the start of the season, the club acquired the services of several top players giving fans much hope.

Unfortunately, things have not been as expected under Coach Winfred Dormon, as the Still Believe lads have struggled to churn out the need results in the 7-week-old league.

The team after seven matches into the season currently occupies the relegation zone, recording one win, three draws, and three defeats.

This has necessitated the appointment of a new technical head to lead the Dawu-based club.

It has, therefore, appointed Serbian trainer Vladislav Viric as their new Head Coach for the remainder of the season.

It is, however, unclear if he will be in the dugout this weekend when Dreams FC take on Ebusua Dwarfs on match-day 8 of the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League.

Berekum Chelsea part ways with head coach Hesseh-Damtten

Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea have parted ways with the head coach of the side Michael Hesse Oamtten.

The former Hearts of Oak player joined the Bibiries before the commencement of the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League.

His side has, however, struggled to perform as expected hence the sack. He becomes the 5th coaching casualty in the 7-week-old league.

Winless Legon Cities sacked Goran Barjaktarević just after two games in the season. Asante Kotoko fired Maxwell Konadu after a 1-0 defeat to King Faisal.

Hearts Of Oak the other hand, demoted Edward Nii Ofoom to their Junior side for Kosta Papic and King Faisal brought in Andy Sinason to replace Slaviša Božičić.

The Golden City boys are without a win in their last three matches and need a turnaround on Sunday against Inter Allies at the Golden City Park. 

The 2011 champions  drew their last match at home- 1-1 with Aduana Stars-making it imperative to win their week 8 fixture.

Berekum Chelsea are lying 15th on the 18-club league log with 6 points.

Kotoko drawn against Algerian side ES Sétif in CAF Confederation Cup

Ghana Premier League giants, Asante Kotoko have been pitted against Algerian side ES Sétif in the 2020/21 CAF Confederation Cup.

This comes after the draws for the 2nd Preliminary Round of the Confederation Cup was held in Cairo on Friday, January 9.
The Porcupines will host the Algerian side in the first leg in Ghana on February 14 while the return leg off a week later (February 21) at the Stade 8 Mai 1945 in Algerian.

The Porcupine Warriors were booted out of the competition without playing the second leg of their first-round fixture against Al Hilal in Sudan after the match was called off. Al Hilal awarded a 2-0 victory following disagreements over Covid-19 cases prior to kickoff.

Kotoko could not raise enough players for the encounter in Omdurman after reports that seven of their players (and up to four officials) had tested positive for the virus. Kotoko had travelled to Sudan with 22 players, while CAF rules dictate that a team needs to have at least 15 players for a game to start.

ES Sétif became CAF Champions League champion by defeating DR Congo’s AS Vita Club in the 2014 final; and the reigning CAF Super Cup champions, by beating Egypt’s Al Ahly in the 2015 Super Cup and the reigning Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 champions.

Kotoko return to Ghana from Sudan after Caf Champions League no show

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have touched down in Ghana after failing to progress to the group stage of the 2020-21 CAF Champions League, having technically lost to Al-Hilal of Sudan.

The entire contingent of 40 made up of 22 players, Technical, and Management of the team landed safely at the Kotoka international airport at exactly 12 noon local time on Friday.

The team is expected to move straight to camp to begjn preparations for their Ghana Premier League match-day 8 battle against Liberty Professionals in Accra on Monday.

They will wait for the results of the draw for the playoffs of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors failed to yo qualify to the group stage after failing to raise the required number of players for their 2nd leg preliminary round tie against Hilal.

7 players and 4 officials were reported to have contracted COVID-19 after a test was conducted.

Soccer Intellectuals player Gladys Appiah has spoken of her side’s chances ahead of the new National Ghana Women’s League football season and admits the race for the title will be tough and exciting for their fans.

“For the preparation, we’ve been playing a couple of matches and with such an active pre-season I can boldly say we’re prepared for the league.” She quipped

“I’m optimistic we will win the league because we had a very competitive and strenuous pre-season which puts us in a very good position to challenge for the title. Notwithstanding, it won’t come easy. it will be tough but exciting to our fans.” She added

“And I’d plead with fans, family, and friends to remind us in prayers to win the League.” She ended.

The 2020-21 season is scheduled to start January 15,2021 across the country.

Asamoah Gyan emerges as the Most Attractive Player in the Ghana Premier League

Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan aka “Baby Jet’ has emerged as the most attractive player in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) this season.

The Legon Cities striker has barely played games for his side so far this season but remains the player with the most attention.

Gyan pulled out an incredible 52% in a survey report conducted by Ghanaian data and research firm African Sports Centre for Data, Research & Technology.

The 35-year-old came top ahead of Medeama SC midfielder Justice Blay, Felix Annan, Yahaya Mohammed, Patrick Razak, Fabio Gama and Emmanuel Gyamfi.

Since joining the Ghana Premier League side, the ex-Sunderland and Udinese star has been able to make just three appearances for the Club so far this season.

Asamoah who has been combining tennis and football to maintain his fitness has also been nominated for the Athlete of the Month (December) by the popular African Sports Media Nerwork, producers of the African Sports Monthly Magazine.

Other nominees are Lewis Hamilton of UK, Moroccan Youssef En- Nesryi and Mohammed Salah of Egypt .

2020-21 GPL: Preview: Elmina Sharks lock horns with resurgent Hearts Of Oak

Accra Hearts of Oak look depleted going into Sunday’s game against Elmina Sharks at the Nduom stadium.

The Phobians are without six players and Coach Kosta Papic needs to come up with something magical to win the game. Sharks host the Phobians at the Nduom Sports Complex in match day 8 of the Premier League.

Midfield trio Emmanuel Nettey, Abdul Aziz Nurudeen and Nigerien international Abdoulrahmane Mamane Lawali are out of the game due to injuries.

Forwards Michelle Sarpong, Kojo Obeng Jnr. and Isaac Mensah who are all nursing injuries.

Hearts of Oak have not lost a game since the 2-0 defeat to Aduana Stars at Dormaa and a win against Elmina sharks puts them in a good position to compete for the title.

They go into the game buoyed by the 6-1 thumping of Bechem United last week. Under Kosta Papic, Hearts of Oak have scored eleven goals and conceded four. With the kind of form, they are in, they look very formidable, resilient and strong and can strand any opposition in the League.

Richard Atta has lost his place to Richmond Aryee and will certainly miss the opportunity to feature against his former club with former Techiman City shot stopper Aryee, likely to keep his place against Elmina Sharks.

For Elmina Sharks, fighting to get back to winning ways will be their aim heading into this fixture after their defeat to Karela United. They scored first at Anyinase but ended up losing 3-1 to the league leaders.

They have two wins from the three home games and will work hard to add Hearts of Oak to the list on Sunday. Sharks won against Aduana Stars (1-0) and Inter Allies (1-0) but dropped points against Liberty professionals in a 1-1 draw.

They boast of quality players like Benjamin Tweneboah, James Bissue, Benjamin Bernard Boateng, Richard Mpong, Emmanuel Addington and Isaac Donkor. Coach Yaw Acheampong will rely heavily on these players to get one over Hearts of Oak.

Hearts of Oak are currently lying 5th on the league standings after seven matches.

The game will be broadcasted live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247 at 6pm.

RTU & Techiman City match rescheduled after GFA EXCO lifts TCFC ban

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has in the exercise of its powers and in compliance with the provisions of Article 17(1) of the GFA Statutes 2019 on January 5, 2021 has lifted the suspension on Techiman City FC.

Consequently, Techiman City FC shall immediately resume its membership of the GFA and play in the Division One League Zone 1 league subject to their Matchday 1 match being postponed until further advised.

The Competitions department will announce a new date for Techiman City’s Match day 1 game against Real Tamale United in due course.

It will be recalled that following the filing of a case and an ex parte injunction by Techiman City FC against the Ghana Football Association, on September 4, 2020, the Executive Council in the exercise of its powers and in compliance with the provisions of Article 17(1) and 39(n) of the GFA Statutes 2019 suspended until a decision is taken by members of the GFA at the next GFA Congress.

As part of its decision, the Executive Council  directed the Secretariat of the GFA to refer officials of Techiman City FC involved in the matter to the appropriate judicial body of the Association in respect of their conduct.

2020-21 GPL: Preview: Dreams FC host Ebusua Dwarfs as they aim to halt winless run

Dreams FC will on Sunday host Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs in a match day eight tie at the theatre of Dreams, at Dawu.

The Still Believe lads have gone five games without a win and will be hoping to end that winless run-on Sunday. Dreams FC have not won a game since their 2-1 win against Medeama SC in a match day two encounter.

Winfred Dormon’s side are enduring one of their worst seasons in the Ghanaian top-flight as they sit in 16th place on the log with 6 points resulting from one win, three draws and three defeats.

They will be gunning to return to winning ways when they welcome Ebusua Dwarfs to Dawu on Sunday.

However, they will come up against a Dwarfs side that have collected four points in their recent trips to Accra. They registered a 2-1 win against Legon Cities and drew 1-1 with Great Olympics in their last two away games.

In all, Dwarfs have won two games in six outings following a 1-0 win against Berekum Chelsea at home and an amazing 2-1 win over Legon Cities in Accra.

They have a poor record against Dreams FC at Dawu, having failed to win there in their last two visits.

The Cape-Coast based side last victory at the ground came in 2016/17 season after beating them 2-0 in Dreams FC’s first appearance in the Ghana Premier League.
