Isaac Agyenim Boateng bagged a sensational brace for Medeama in their 2-1 win over Aduana Stars to record their first home win of the season.

Boateng opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a cool finish inside the box after connecting from Abass Mohammed’s flick.

Aduana pulled parity before the first half after Bright Adjei’s  miscued shot appears to have been deflected to beat goalkeeper Frank Boateng.

The Mauve and Yellow returned from the break determined to win as they kept the heat on the visitors for the better part of the exchanges.

In one of those ensuing torrent, Agyenim Boateng walked the ball into the back of the net after a sublime build up from the two-time FA Cup winners.

Medeama needed the win badly after drawing their three homes matches against Great Olympics, Liberty Professionals and Asante Kotoko.

This is a massive boost for Medeama who have been angling for a home win in four matches.

Coach Samuel Boadu handed debut start for goalkeeper Frank Boateng who took impressed in post in the absence of Eric Ofori Antwi.

Captain Joseph Tetteh Zutah also enjoyed his start of the season and despite being withdrawn and replaced by Ebenezer Ackhabi in the second half, discharged his duties with aplomb.

Aduana Stars worked hard in search of the equalizer but was too little too late as the home side snatched their first victory at the Akoon Park infront of their home fans.

The visitors probe for the equalizer with striker Yahaya Mohammed and Bright Adjei making several attempts at goal by Frank Boateng was equal to the task.

Medeama will feel they could have scored more after the introduction of youngster Ebenezer Ackahbi – who used his pace and trickery to cause a lot of problems for the two-time Premier League champions.

It’s a massive relief for Medeama coach Samuel Boadu, who has come under intense pressure since the start of the season.

Despite being touted as one the huge favourite for the Premier League crown, Medeama have huffed and puffed since the start of the season.

They have now recorded just two wins in 8 matches and travel to Obuasi to face Medeama next weekend.

Hearts of Oak head coach Kosta Papic has named a 20-man squad for their trip to Elmina on Sunday.

The Phobians will battle Sharks at the Nduom Stadium in a match-day 8 fixture.

Young forward Isaac Mensah and Ivorian international Eric Dizan have been named in the squad for Elmina Sharks game.

The Phonians will be without Michelle Sarpong, Emmanuel Nettey and Obeng Kojo Junior due to their respective injuries.

In-form Abdul-Aziz Nurudeen has also been suspended for the game whiles Larry Sumaila makes a return to the team after recovering from a knock.

Head coach of Legon Cities has stated that the win over WAFA on Friday evening could provide his side with the confidence to push for more wins in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

The Royals secured their first-ever win in the 2020-21 season after defeating free-scoring Academy Lads 1-0 in a match-day 8 encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Joseph Adjei bagged the only goal from the spot in the 47th minute after Mathew Anim Cudjoe was brought down in the penalty box.

Bashir Hayford’s charges went into the game in a bad form, having lost 4 and drawn 3 of their first 7 games in the season, while WAFA came in with confidence after a 5-4 win over Medeama and occupy 3rd position.

Speaking to the press after the hard-fought victory, Bashir Hayford said the win over WAFA could be the springboard for securing more points.

“If today, we won that means, Legon Cities can win matches. I am very pleased with the victory. But we will quickly put this behind us and prepare for the next game. We need more points to climb up the table as soon as possible.” – Bashir Hayford

He also indicated that the win is a massive boost as he called on them to build on the win over the Academy Lads.

“This will be a big booster for us going forward. Naturally, when you win games it motivates you to win the next, so I am confident that we will build on this victory.”

The win moves Legon Cities from the bottom to the 17th position with 6 points.

Legon Cities kept their momentum to endure the game ended 1-0.

Four top performers have been listed for the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League NASCO Player of the Month for December award.

The shortlisted players are: Salifu Ibrahim of Techiman Eleven Wonders, Gladson Awako of Great Olympics, Augustine Boakye of WAFA and Benjamin Tweneboah of Elmina Sharks.

The players have been shortlisted from their involvement in the matches played during this period and consideration was given to their respective man-of-the-match awards, goals scored, assists and clean sheets where applicable.

Matchday One and Two games which were played in November were also considered in arriving at the shortlist.

The winner of the 2020/21 GPL NASCO Player of the Month for December award will be announced on Wednesday January 13, 2021.

Winner will receive a NASCO Television set, a men’s grooming set and a personalized trophy.
