It will be another unforgettable game at the nation’s capital Sports Stadium, when two embattled Clubs, Legon Cities host Kumasi based King Faisal at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, February 15, 2021 at 6pm.

While many will focus their attention on the result of the game with 1 point separating Legonites and the ‘Insha Allah’ boys, others will also focus on the performance of the centre referee, whose command or otherwise determines the beauty of the Match day 14 fixture of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League.

The Ho, Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC) student, Rustum Gameli Senorgbe, has been appointed to officiate the Monday Night football, together with assistants, Sulemana Salau Deen and Kenneth Tweneboah-Kodua as well as 4th Referee Musah Mubarak. Paul Ayamba is the Match Commissioner for that encounter.

Legon Cities, having started the season with draws and loses is gradually finding their momentum with new Coach Bashir Hayford after sacking their Serbian gaffer and with 14 points, lying 13th on the league log, can’t afford to slip again.

Their opponents, who boosted their survival from relegation with a win against Medeama on Day 13, would seek consistency after their 1-3 loss to Olympics came in their winning ways as they beat Berekum Chelsea, 4-3 on match day 11.

The post Chocolate Day match becomes the second Night Rustum will be officiating Legon Cities home game at the Accra Sports Stadium, as he was in centre for the 1-1 game between Legon Cities and Great Olympics in Match Day 10 fixture of the truncated season on Friday, February 14, 2020 (Chocolate treat for all ladies).

It will be interesting to note, that apart from last season’s result (1-1) all Legon Cities home matches that the EPUC student has officiated this season (2) has ended in draws; Legon Cities 1-1 B. Chelsea and Legon Cities (0-0) Medeama SC. On the other hand, King Faisal has also lost games (2) he was 4th Referee, last season; Dreams (4-1) King Faisal and Ebusua Dwarfs (2-1) King Faisal.

A different story however is expected, as both Clubs will give their all to be safe from relegation danger.

Rustum’s credibility and growth on the field, is one that is being admired by many stakeholders and that he is poised to maintain.

Matchweek 14 of the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League commenced on Saturday with WAFA failing to beat struggling AshantiGold at the Sogakope Park as they played out a scoreless stalemate.

At the Dawu Park, Dreams FC continued their impressive run by beating former Champions Aduana Stars 4-2.

Karela United returned to the top of the league log after securing a 2- away win over Dwarfs.

As usual, the Premier league brought us some exciting results, 6 games have so far been played, with 2 more to take place on Monday and Tuesday. One other game has been postponed, which is the game between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak due to Kotoko’s participation in the CAF Confederation cup.

We take a look at how things unfolded in the first 6 games:

WAFA 0-0 ASHANTIGOLD

Strugglers WAFA and AshantiGold shared spoils at the Sogakope park. Both sides came into the game having lost their last two games. AshantiGold had the first chance of the game, a header from a corner was cleared off the line by Konadu Yiadom. WAFA started to dominate the game and came close to breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute, an unmarked Marvin Owusu failed to beat Robert Dabuo with a header. The second half of the way was less entertaining, both sides failed to create any huge opportunity as the game ended scoreless.

DREAMS 4-2 ADUANA STARS

Dreams FC continued their impressive run under Vladislav Viric as they defeated Aduana Stars 4-2. Dreams opened the scoring in the 16th minute through Joseph Esso from close range. The Still believe side made it 2-0 in the 35th minute, Joseph Esso scored from the spot after Agyenim Boateng was fouled. Aduana Stars pulled one back the 60th minute, Bright Adjei the goal scorer. Dreams scored two quick goals in the 69th and 73rd minute to it 4-1 and kill the game off. Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Ocran scored the two quick goals. Aduana didn’t give up, they pulled one back quickly through Emmanuel Osei Baffour to reduce the deficit to 2 and make the scoreline 4-2. Both teams had a man sent off in the final minutes of the game.

LIBERTY PROFESSIONALS 2-2 INTER ALLIES

A late goal from substitute Hashim Ali handed Inter Allies their first point in 7 games. Inter Allies took a surprise lead in the 22nd minute, Suleman Nafiu scored to give them the lead. Liberty grew into the game and came close on a number of occasions, but the Inter Allies defense held on to go into the break a goal up. Liberty came back from the break playing like they ended the first half, they scored two quick goals in the 68th and 72nd minute to make it 2-1. Stanley Ampaw grabbed the equalizing goal before Abraham Wayo scored from the spot. That wasn’t the end of the drama at the Carl Reindorf park, towering center back Hashim Ali scored in additional time to make it 2-2 and earn his side a deserving point.

EBUSUA DWARFS 1-2 KARELA UNITED

Karela United earned their first away win of the season as they defeated Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 and in the process hand them their 3rd home defeat this season. Karela opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Umar Bashiru, he scored with a pass from Diawisie Taylor. Karela doubled their lead in the final minutes of the first half, Diawisie Taylor scored his 10th goal of the season to make it 2-0. Dwarfs grabbed the consolation goal in the 83rd minute through Benjamin Acquah, but it was too late for a comeback as the game ended 2-1.

BEREKUM CHELSEA 2-0 ELEVEN WONDERS

Berekum Chelsea defeated Eleven Wonders 2-0 to go 3 points clear off the drop zone. Chelsea opened the scoring in the 7th minute from the spot kick through Stephen Amankona. The Blues were awarded another spot kick in the 10th minute, Stephen Amankona stepped up once again and calmly beat the goalkeeper. The remaining of the game saw both sides create chances, but none of the players was able to find the back of the net as it ended 2-0.

MEDEAMA 2-0 BECHEM UNITED

Medeama defeated Bechem United 2-0 at the Akoon Park to bounce back to winning ways. The Mauve and Yellow opened the scoring in the 13th minute, Justice Blay scored from the spot after Abass Mohammed was fouled. Medeama doubled by their lead in the 43rd minute, Bright Enchil scored after a beautiful passing to make it 2-0. Both teams created chances in the second half, but none of the players was able to put the ball at the back of the net to change the score line.

WAFA failed to end their winless run on Saturday, 13 February 2021, after drawing 0-0 with AshantiGold at home in the Ghana Premier League.

The Academy Boys have also gone three matches without scoring a goal and will further slip on the table if the week 14 games are concluded.

AshantiGold sounded the warning bell in the opening minutes when a well delivered corner-kick from the right was headed towards goal at the near post but Konadu Yiadom was on the line with a clearance.

Goalkeeper Ferdinand Sabi Acquah, who was making a return to the starting line-up after being benched for six matches, was completely beaten.

After 24 minutes, AshantiGold had the ball at the back of the net from a corner kick but the referee had whistled already saying Acquah was pushed on the line.

AshGold won a free-kick for outside the box after right back Mohammed Abdul Samed Abdul Karim raced back to foul Isaac Opoku Agyemang to break up a counter attack.

In the 40th minute, Marvin Owusu, unmarked, heads down Samed’s cross from the right but innocuous to beat Dabuo between the sticks.

Minutes into the second half, Marvin Owusu went in the air to meet Samed’s cross but again his header it was mis-directed.

Boateng drags the ball onto his right foot and whips in the cross but not well measured for Marvin Owusu.

In the 76th minute, Substitute Jalilu Mola controlled the ball at the edge of the box and smashed one in but he dragged it too wide.

Ten minutes from time, Godwin Agbevor tried to stay on his feet after cutting in from the right onto his left but his attempt at goal was off target.

In the last minute of injury time, a glorious opportunity fell to Andrews Ntim Manu who blasted it wide.
