GFA reschedule Kotoko vrs Bechem United outstanding league game again

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has rescheduled the outstanding Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Bechem United to Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

The game will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The fixture was originally scheduled for Thursday, February 25, but was postponed after a heavy downpour left areas of the pitch in an unplayable condition.

The GFA later fixed Wednesday, March 25, 2021, for the clubs to honour it but it has now been scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at the same venue.

The start of the second round of the 202021 Ghana Premier League has also been moved from Friday, March 19 to Friday, April 2, 2021.

Women’s Premier League: Rahama Jafar, three others shortlisted for Player of the month for February

Four outstanding players in the Women’s Premier League have been short listed for the Nasco player of the month for February award.

Rahama Jafar (Northern Ladies)

Rahma Jafar has been on top form for Northern Ladies in the month of February, featuring in all three games. She scored two goals in two matches and won the NASCO player of the match award once.

Patience Peterson Kundok (Ampem Darkoa Ladies) 

Patience Peterson Kundok has been solid in midfield for Ampem Darkoa Ladies. She featured in all three matches, netted two goals and made one assist in the month of February. She also won the NASCO Player of the match award once.

Suzzy Dede Teye (Lady Strikers)

Suzzy Dede Teye scored four goals and made one assist in the month of February.  Shas featured in all three games for her side and contributed in lifting Lady Strikers to 3rd place on the Southern zone league log.

Janet Egyir (Hasaacas Ladies)

As a defender, Janet Egyir kept three clean sheets for Hasaacas Ladies in all three matches and contributed immensely to her sides surge in form. She also won the NASCO player of the match when Hasaacas Ladies played with Police Ladies.

Winner of the player of the month for February will take home a 32inch NASCO Television set and a trophy.

Women’s Premier League: GFA announce Coach of the month for February nominees

Four coaches who excelled in the Women’s Premier League in the month of February have been nominated for the NASCO Coach of the Month Award.

Joe Nana Adarkwa ( Ampem Darkoa Ladies)

He led his side to win two crucial away matches, one at the dreaded Sunyani Coronation park against Prisons Ladies in the ‘Bono derby’ and Fabulous Ladies in Kumasi. The also won at home against Supreme Ladies. Ampem Darko led the Northern Zone table with 16 points, 6 points clear of second placed Kumasi Sports Academy.

Charles Anokye Frimpong (Kumasi Sports Academy)

Coach Anokye guided KUSA to two back-to-back wins in the month of February. First was an away win against Supreme Ladies in a 3-2 win and a home win against Fabulous Ladies. These wins ensured Kumasi Sports Academy ended the month in 2nd place.

Rashid Iddi (Lady Strikers)

Rashid Iddi won the ‘Oguaa’ derby after a win over Sea Lions before recording another win at home against Soccer Intellectuals. His side is the only team who managed to picked a point against then Leaders, Berry Ladies in February. They finished the month in 3rd place one a point adrift 2nd place Hasaacas Ladies.

Yusif Basigi (Hasaacas Ladies)

Out of three games played in the month of February, Yusif Basigi led his side to two wins and one draw. The first was a 1-0 away victory against Soccer Intellectuals. The team then travelled to Accra to beat Police Ladies at the McDan La Town Park before sharing the spoils at home with Sea Lions.

Winner of the coach of the Month for February will take home a 43inch NASCO Television set and a trophy.

Players are motivated and confident ahead of qualifiers – Wakaso

Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is optimistic about Ghana’s chances in the final AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome.

Ghana will take on Bafana Bafana on March 25 in Johannesburg before they take on Sao Tome and Principe three days later.

Mubarak Wakaso has been training with home-based players in Accra ahead of the two crucial ties.

“Everything is going on well, the guys are well prepared and ready to give out their best. Wakaso told ghanafa.org

“What I’m seeing here is massive, everybody is doing great. They were in camp before I came and I think what I saw was different. They were training hard and it motivated me as a professional player to play with the local players.

“They are playing in the Ghana Premier league and they are doing well in their teams that was why they were selected. They just need to be confident without any fear and from what I’ve seen, they are very confident and well-motivated.

“We can also help them with our experience. Without the fans, we are nothing so we need their support and prayers. We thank them for standing by us always”. Wakasso added

Afcon Qualifiers: We are ready for the games – Boateng

Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Boateng says the Black Stars are ready for the battle ahead.

The China based player who together with Mubarak Wakaso have been training with the team in Accra, has described the two-week training as positive.

Boateng made his Black Stars debut in May 2018 and will be looking forward to another appearance when Ghana takes on South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe in the final round of qualifiers for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I think we have been training for almost two weeks now and each and every one is ready. Boateng said in an interview with ghanafa.org

“We train very hard as a team and the moral is already up so we are ready to play for our homeland.

“I think it is very good because when we trained at McDan, they were complaining about the pitch but we need to know that is what we have so we need to corporate but I think everything is perfect.

“We have the qualities to play for the nation and I think we are ready. We just need a helping hand from each other to play.

“I’m urging all Ghanaians to support us with players and we hope to deliver what they want ”.

2020/21 Ghana Premier League second round matches rescheduled

The start of the second round of the Ghana Premier League has been rescheduled from Friday, March 19, 2021 to Friday, April 2, 2021.


The decision is to give handlers of the Black Stars ample time to prepare for the two remaining Africa Cup of National qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.


The Black Stars have been fine tuning in Accra for the two ties with a chunk of them being home based players.


The Ghana Premier League has been on break since Sunday. March 6, 2021.


Stakeholders are also to take note that the outstanding game between Asante Kotoko SC and Bechem United FC originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 24, 2021 will now be played on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.


Industry players are to take note of the changes.

Black Stars beat lower-tier side Star Makers FC in friendly game

The Black Stars of Ghana defeated Division Two side Star Makers FC 2-1 in a warmup game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Black Stars as part of their preparations for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa and Soa Tome later this month took on Madina-based side Star Makers in a friendly game.

Manager CK Akonnor handed starts to Asante Kotoko trio Razak Abalora, Christopher Netty and Imoro Ibrahim. China-based Mubarak Wakaso and Emmanuel Boateng were also handed starts.

Ghana opened the scoring in the opening minutes of the game from the spot through Emmanuel Boateng.

Star Makers pulled parity in the 30th minute through Alhassan Mahmud, goalkeeper Razak Abalora failed to grab an effort from outside the box.

CK Akonnor at the start of the second half introduced the likes of Diawisie Taylor, Kwame Poku, Gladson Awako, Michael Otu, Dennis Korsah.

The Black Stars after been frustrated for long by the Division two side grabbed the winning goal in the 70th minute of the game through Kwame Poku.

The team will continue camping in Accra as they prepare for the AFCON qualifiers against Sudan and Soa Tome.

CK Akonnor is expected to augment the team with a number of foreign based players in the coming days.

Ghana will play South Africa on Thursday, March 25 at FNB Stadium in South Africa before hosting Soa Tome on Tuesday, March 30 in Accra.

The Black Stars currently sit top of Group C with 9 points from 4 games. The West African giants need just a point in the aforementioned games to secure a place at the 2022 AFCON to be staged in Cameroon.

Italian giants AS Roma confirm signing Ghanaian teen Felix Afena-Gyan

Italian Serie A giants AS Roma have confirmed the signing of Ghanaian teen sensation Felix Afena-Gyan.

The deal, brokered by renowned agent Oliver Arthur, will be the first time a player without international exposure is being moved from a Ghanaian side as a senior squad member of a Top 4 club in the peninsula.

His transfer is a huge endorsement for young Ghanaian talents who are often signed by stellar European sides and placed in their youth set ups or loaned out to feeder clubs or lower-division sides for playing experience.

Gyan will become the third winter signing for the Giallorossi after the re-signing of Stephan El Shaarawy and Bryan Reynolds from FC Dallas.

Our outfit understands, the 18-year-old prospect will fill one of the two non-EU slots alongside Reynolds, who is a US youth international.

Gyan is reported to have attracted interest from AC Milan and Sassuolo but AS Roma have big plans to make him part of Paulo Fonseca’s squad.

He is strong, quick, skilful and has a high conversion rate as a forward.

Wilfried Zaha becomes first Premier League player not to take the knee

Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha became the first Premier League player not to take a knee in solidarity with the anti-racist movement before Saturday’s match against West Bromwich Albion.

Cote d’Ivoire international Zaha stood tall while the rest of his Palace team-mates and their opponents kneeled just before kick-off at Selhurst Park.

The 28-year-old revealed last month when speaking at the Financial Times’ Business of Football summit he would no longer perform a gesture which has been followed by Premier League players, officials and staff since June.

“My decision to stand at kick-off has been public knowledge for a couple of weeks now,” Zaha said in a statement released on Saturday.

“There is no right or wrong decision, but for me personally I feel kneeling has just become a part of the pre-match routine and at the moment it doesn’t matter whether we kneel or stand, some of us still continue to receive abuse.

“I know there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes at the Premier League and other authorities to make change, and I fully respect that, and everyone involved. I also fully respect my team-mates and players at other clubs who continue to take the knee.

“As a society, I feel we should be encouraging better education in schools, and social media companies should be taking stronger action against people who abuse others online – not just footballers.

“I now just want to focus on football and enjoy being back playing on the pitch. I will continue to stand tall.”

Zaha joins Championship clubs Millwall, Derby, Bournemouth and Brentford in no longer taking part in kneeling before matches.

The gesture was brought in as a way to promote the anti-racism message after the death in police custody of George Floyd in the United States last May sparked a rise in Black Lives Matter protests.
