Tema City FC CEO Eric Jerry donates to Apam disaster victims’ families

Mr Eric Jerry Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer of Tema City Football Club, has donated an undisclosed amount of money to families of the teenagers who drowned at the Apam beach on Sunday, March 7.

He said the donation was to support the families to give the children a befitting burial.

Mr Aidoo, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Tema after the donation, said: “Officials of Tema City FC were in Apam on Saturday to scout for young talents and on our return, we heard the unfortunate news, which occurred on Sunday.”

“It is sad to lose these young ones, especially when you don’t know what they will become in future. It is a sad news and we stand with the families.”

He commended the Apam Fishermen Council and the youth for playing critical roles during the rescue mission.

Three Black Satellites players earn Black Stars call-up

Black Stars Head Coach C.K Akonnor has handed call up to three players of the victorious Black Satellites squad.

The trio, Ibrahim Danlad, a goalkeeper of Asante Kotoko who was adjudged the overall best goalkeeper of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania, Philemon Baffuor of Dreams FC who plays at right back and Fatawu Issahaku, a player of Division One side Steadfast FC who was also adjudged the overall best player of the Nations cup.

The three players will team up with the rest of the squad on Tuesday, March 16, to continue preparation for the two remaining Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ghana will take on South Africa on Match 25 before hosting São Tomé and Principe four days later.

The Black Stars sit at the top of Group C with 9 points and are in search of a ticket to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Asante Kotoko youngster Osman Ibrahim has recovered from injury and hast started training with the team.

Ibrahim sustained a setback at training missing a couple of games for the Porcupines Warriors in the first round of the 2020/21 Ghana premier league.

The 22-year-old forward joined his teammates at training on Monday, March 15, 2021, at the Adako Jachie training grounds.

The team resumed training on Tuesday, March 15, 2021, at the Adako Jachie training grounds at 3:00 pm to start preparations ahead of the second round of the Ghana premier league.

Osman twice two in all competitions for the Reds before h injury.

King Faisal set to name Kasim Gökyildiz as new head coach

Ghanaian top-flight side, King Faisal are set to appoint Turkish Kasim Gökyildiz as their new head coach, Kumasi-based OTEC FM has reported.

The 55-year-old worked briefly in Ghana in 2020 for regional rivals AshantiGold but had his stay truncated.

This was after the Ghana Football Association claimed they had failed to validate the authenticity of his UEFA License A coaching certificate.

Gökyildiz is expected to arrive in Ghana on Wednesday to conclude his move to the relegation-threatened side.

Current coach Andy Sinason will remain at the club and work as his assistant.

King Faisal are third-bottom on the league log with 17 points from 17 matches after the first half of the 2020/21 season.

New Asante Kotoko striker, Solomon Sarfo Taylor has expressed his excitement after joining the club.

The Porcupine Warriors on Monday, March 15, 2021, announced the signing of former Karela United striker Solomon Sarfo Taylor on a three-and-half year deal.

The lethal forward signed the dotted lines after successfully passing his mandatory medicals.

Sarfo Taylor joins the Porcupines with immeasurable experience, having among other things, led Karela United to the final of the Normalisation Committee Tier-One Cup which Kotoko won on penalties.

The 22-year-old joins Johnson Smith’s side on a free transfer having left Danish side Vendsyssel FF and is expected to add more bite to the Reds attack in the second round of the season and beyond.

“I am very happy to be here. It has been a long dream and I think this is the right time for me to make the move,” he told Kotoko Express after his signing.

“I am joining an amazing group of players and I am confident that I would also contribute my part to take this historic club to places.”

Sarfo Taylor was instrumental for Karela United in the Special Competition in 2019, netting five times in the competition as his partnership with Diawisie Taylor earned them a second-place finish after losing the finals to Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium and is expected to be a great addition to Kotoko.

He replaces Kwame Opoku, who is on his way to Algerian giants USM Alger.

Algerian giants USM Alger announce deal with Ghanaian forward Kwame Opoku

Algerian giants, USM Alger have announced reaching a deal with Ghanaian striker Kwame Opoku from Asante Kotoko.

The 21-year-old reached a deal with the North African side last week after a fruitful negotiations.

Opoku will sign a four-and-half year contract with the club.

USM Alger is expected to complete his registration when their winter transfer window opens on Sunday, March 22, 2020.

Opku is currently training with the Black Stars and will be moving to North Africa after the double AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and São Tomé later this month.

The prolific forward is reportedly will be earning a month salary of €15000.

Having joined the Porcupine Warriors from Nkoranza Warriors at the start of the season, the strong forward has been Kotoko’s main source goals scoring eight in all competitions.

He was also on the radar of rivals ES Setif who have already acquired Daniel Lomotey. Egyptian giants Zamalek were also interested in the attacker.

Ghana Premier League heavyweight, Asante Kotoko have officially announced the signing of striker Solomon Sarfo Taylor on a transfer.

Taylor inked a three-and-half year deal with the Porcupine Warriors on Monday, March 15, 2021 after successful negotiations.

The former Karela United goal poacher has joined Asante Kotoko after parting ways with Danish side Vandsyssel FF.

Sarfo Taylor was an inch close to joining Asante Kotoko before he snubbed them for Vandsyssel FF in Denmark.

U-20 Afcon Best Player Fatawu Issahaku handed Black Stars call-up

2021 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) best player, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is the latest bright talent to be handed a call-up to the Ghana senior national team.

The central midfielder, who turned 17 on March 8, is to join the Black Stars team currently in camp preparing for games against South Africa and Sao Tome in the final rounds of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Fatawu has enjoyed a meteoric rise in his international career over the past three months.

He captained the Black Starlets at the U-17 Wafu Cup of Nations tournament in January and was quickly drafted into the Satellites squad after the team’s group-stage elimination.

Fatawu was named the player of the tournament after his dazzling displays for the Black Satellites led to their victory at Mauritania 2021.

The left-footed player scored twice for the Black Satellites enroute to winning Ghana’s fourth title, but it was his artistry of the ball and efficiency in Ghana’s attacking flow, coupled with his dead-ball mastery that caught the eye of the Technical Study Group (TSG) which crowned him best.

Fatawu – who is on the books of Division One side Steadfast FC – introduced himself at the U-20 Afcon with a stunning goal against Tanzania on his tournament debut and added another spectacular goal in the group stage defeat to Gambia.

Last Saturday, he featured for Steadfast FC who drew 1-1 in a local derby away to Tamale City in the 2020/21 Division One League.

Kotoko to register fit-again midfielder Richard Senanu for the second round of GPL

Fit-again Asante Kotoko midfielder, Richard Senanu is set to be registered by the club ahead of the start of the second round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League(GPL).

Senanu has not played for the club since February 2019 after damaging his cruciate knee ligaments in Asante Kotoko’s 2-1 win against Zesco United in Kumasi in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The 26-year-old was expected to make his long-awaited return to competitive football before the start of the 2020/21 season after returning to the club’s training in July last year but suffered a new setback in his rehabilitation in October 7, 2020.

However, the defensive midfielder who has long been regarded as one of the most exciting talents to join the Porcupines in recent times joined his teammates in training on Tuesday, December 30, 2020, under the supervision of Coach Johnson Smith and Abdulai Gazale.

Senanu, according to our sources, is fully fit and will be registered by the Porcupine Warriors before the closure of the second transfer window Thursday, March 18, 2021.

The second round of the Ghanaian top-flight will commence on Friday, April 2, 2021.
