Hearts Of Oak board member Sowah Odotei gives update on Awako’s issue

Board member, Sowah Odotei is assuring the fans of Hearts of oak that the impasse between the club and Great Olympics regarding their midfielder, Gladson Awako will soon be resolved.

Awako who was a key figure for Great Olympics last season made the move to their city rivals, Hearts Oak during the transfer window but is yet to feature for the Phobian Club due to financial issues pertaining to the transfer of the experienced skimmer.

Sowah Odotei speaking on the issue stressed ,that the midfielder is their player though they’re yet to register him in the domestic transfer marching system.

“Awako is a registered player of Accra Hearts of Oak, we own his economic rights.” He emphasized

The Board when quizzed whether issues circulating in the media regarding some spiritual attacks on the player refuted that assertion while adding that Awako is only facing some personal issues.

“There are personal issues and challenges that Awako is going through in his life which are impacting his inclusion and participation with the team. However, we are talking to Olympics to see how we can resolve this amicably, ” told Akoma FM.

“We want to see how we resolve this so that it won’t dent the image of football and that will also make sure that outside stakeholders see that we create a good image of football so that we can go forward.

“We need to build the Ghana brand and we need to make sure that we handle issues properly. I can assure every supporter that we are on top of this Awako issue, and we believe that very soon it will be resolved.”

Mali thrash Rwanda to advance to 2022 World Cup play-offs

Mali are through to the final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification following a 3-0 victory over Rwanda on Thursday. 

Rwanda had a false start to the game as they were reduced to ten men after Djihad Bizimana latched on Ibrahima Kone in the eighth minute. Bizimana was shown a straight red card leaving the hosts with ten men inside ten minutes of play. 

In the 20th minute, Mali broke the deadline through Moussa Djenepo before Ibrahima Kone added the second just after two minutes to make it 2-0. 

Three minutes to stoppage time, Kalifa Coulibaly grabbed the third with a powerful header that gave Emery Mvuyekure no chance. 

The victory was enough for Les Aigles as they topped Group E and progressed to the FIFA WC Qualifiers last round to join Morocco and Senegal. 

Uganda’s hopes of making it to the finals were crashed as they settled for a 1-1 draw with Harambee Stars earlier at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

2022 World Cup Q: South Africa beat Zimbabwe to set up grande finale against Ghana on Sunday

Bafana Bafana extended their lead at the top of Group G in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after defeating Zimbabwe 1-0 on Thursday evening.

Following their clash against Ethiopia, Bafana named three changes in the form of Percy Tau, Keagan Dolly and Thibang Phete as Khama Billiat and Ishmael Wadi started in the Warriors line-up.

After an energetic opening, Bafana took the lead five minutes before the half-hour mark when a perfectly weighted cross from Dolly found Teboho Mokoena, who headed in from the back-post.

Bafana instantly went in search for a second goal from a close-range attempt by Tau following a scramble in the area, but the visitors managed to clear their lines on this occasion.

The Warriors began to camp in the opposing half in the latter periods of the first half in pursuit of the equaliser, but their quest didn’t yield the desired outcome.

Nonetheless, Bafana’s dominant spell continued well into the second half as Phete closed-in from a free-kick by Tau before Nyiko Mobbie witnessed a low shot from a promising area blocked.

It prompted the Warriors to turn to the substitutes bench ten minutes in the restart and introduced Kudakwashe Mahachi ahead of Blessing Sarupinda with the aim of staging a comeback.

Thereafter though, Norman Mapeza’s men still conceded chances with Dolly’s curler from afar and a looping header from Bongokuhle Hlongwane working their opposite number to sharp reflexes.

With full-time approaching, Bafana enjoyed numerous openings from Fagrie Lakay’s low rasping drive to Hlongwane’s header across the face of goal and a long-range drive that touched the upright.

That didn’t matter as Bafana still picked up the win to go three points clear off second-place Ghana in Group G after they played to a draw against Ethiopia earlier in the day.

The 1-0 result means that South Africa stay top of the group with 13 points from 5 games and will need to avoid a defeat against Ghana on Sunday to qualify from the group.

For Ghana, they’ll need to win the game by any scoreline.

GFA Match Review Panel to review Kotoko vs Bechem United, Hearts vs Legon Cities games & other matches in the Ghana Premier League

The Match Review Panel of the Ghana Football Association will meet on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the GFA Secretariat.

The Committee will review the GPL matchday 2 game between Asante Kotoko vs Bechem United, Elmina Sharks vs Dreams as well as the match between Ashantigold SC vs Karela FC.

Other matches including the Matchday 1 game between Hearts of Oak vs Legon cities  will also be reviewed by the Review panel at its maiden meeting of the season.

Referees and Assistants for the matches in review will be given the opportunity to explain their decisions on incidents that may come up for review.

Clubs are also encouraged to channel all grievances on referee decisions to the GFA through the complaint form.

Ghanaians are at it again. Everyone is busily calculating the fate of the Black Stars in the ongoing Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers after drawing 1-1 with Ethiopia earlier today.

Some are doing addition: If South Africa beat Zimbabwe 1-0, the Black Stars will qualify if they beat 1-0 because they’ve scored more goals despite both teams having a goal difference of 4.

Many choose to go the long way of doing the division method: when South Africa beat Zimbabwe 2-0, Ghana will qualify if they beat South Africa 2-0 because they will have a goal difference of 5 and SA will have a goal difference of 4.

The substitution method is best for many Ghanaians too, which is if SA beat Zimbabwe 3-0, Ghana will qualify if they beat SA 2-0. Both teams will have scored 8 goals. However, Ghana will have a better head-to-head.

Moreover, the elimination method is also on for many since it will determine which team advances if SA beat Zimbabwe 4-0, Ghana will qualify if they beat SA 3-0 because they’ll have a better goal difference.

Those sticking to logarithm are not doing badly in their calculations, since if SA beat Zimbabwe 5-0, Ghana will qualify if they beat SA 4-0 because they will have a better goal difference.

The calculators are all working tirelessly with the ‘ifs’ playing games on the minds of Ghanaians. The fate of the Black Stars is at stake, but the coach, Milovan Rajevac, is confident his side will qualify to the next stage.

The Black Stars will host South Africa in Cape Coast on Sunday in their last group game.

Accra Hearts of Oak’s latest anniversary is, surely, the best they’ve had in more than a decade.

If for nothing at all, it is the first since their 98th that Hearts aren’t celebrating empty-handed; too bad neither the Ghana Premier League nor FA Cup trophies they secured so convincingly last season is designed to contain any of the champagne flowing today at No.13 Sobukwe Road, Adabraka.

Those were the first major pieces of silverware Hearts have won in 12 years, and fans of the club have reason to believe there is much more to come. Hearts’ start to this season — two games, no wins — inspires little confidence that those hopes would be rewarded but, brushing aside that slow start, it’s undisputable that the Phobians still have the resources to sustain their impressive run.

In truth, though, it doesn’t really matter how their title/cup defence ends; Hearts have their eyes on other acquisitions, ones more essential to the profile of a modern football club.

Hearts have spent much of these 110 years filling up their trophy cabinet, amassing a collection that stands at — and here are the really big ones — 21 league titles, 11 FA Cup triumphs, and three continental trophies.

They aren’t finished yet on that front, one suspects, but the future could open up a whole new perspective of success. For all they have achieved on the pitch, Hearts have precious little to their name in terms of infrastructure, while the club’s huge appeal — second only, in Ghana, to archrivals Asante Kotoko’s — has barely been harnessed.

They are, however, in the process of changing that narrative, albeit belatedly. The massive project in Pobiman which is already underway — and, in fact, near completion — will take Hearts up several notches, as would the new secretariat in the works.

Then there is the mega Hearts brand that is being gradually, yet actively, exported, the first major step of which is the recently announced Common Value Club Alliance with Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim and MLS’ FC Cincinnati.

All of that, collectively, represents the birth of a new dawn, one in which success won’t be defined solely by points accrued, silverware won, and big-name signings made. Hopefully, the accomplishments to be celebrated another 100 years or so from now — if Hearts, and indeed this world, remain in existence — would be of a wider, richer variety.

CAF WCL: Hasaacas Ladies share spoils with Wadi Degla to complete unbeaten group stage

Hasaacas Ladies extended its unbeaten run in the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League to 3 games with a 2-2 draw against Wadi Degla.

Faustina Nyame Aidoo and Veronica Appiah scored at 20th and 49th minutes of the game to ensure Hasaacas Ladies came from behind twice to pick the top spot in Group A.

The result put Hasaacas Ladies FC top on Group A with seven points and with a record 8 goals scored in the group phase, more than any other team.

Coach Yussif Basigi threw in two changes from the squad that won 3-0 against AS Mandé on match day two.

Shine Blessing and Azumah Bugre were excused from this squad list; Comfort Owusu and Doreen Copson taking their places in defense and midfield respectively.

Host team, Wadi Degla took the lead twice but the Giantess were on hand to level matters each time to ensure the game ended 2-2.

Faustina Nyame Aidoo scored a stunning headed, connecting to Perpetual Agyekum’s perfect cross to send the game level.

The host again snatched the lead approaching the end of the half with a 2-1 lead.

Before long, same approach a cross inside the box on the 49th minute and this time Veronica Appiah was on the end of matters to put the game level on 2-2.

Despite pounding the surface to secure the lead, the game ended 2-2.

Hasaacas Ladies will now wait on the Group B games tomorrow to learn opponents for the semfinal.

2022 World Cup Q: Zimbabwe coach Mapeza sends Bafana Bafana warning

Zimbabwe’s head coach Norman Mapeza has said the Warriors will be gunning to beat South Africa despite their already dead chances of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Zimbabweans will be visiting Johannesburg on Thursday with the hopes of upsetting Bafana’s Group G lead momentum with two games to go.

Mapeza’s side lost their dream to earn a ticket to Qatar after getting three defeats and a draw from four qualifying games.

“We want to win the game. As a nation, we have a battered pride, so we need to restore our pride,” he told News Day.

“We will definitely go out there and try to get a positive result.

“We have to go out there with a positive mind and try to fight for the national badge, and get back home with a good result.

“I am happy with the players’ attitude. All the players are pushing, and I hope it will remain the same going forward.”

Meanwhile, Ghana will have the final say when the Black Stars host SA in West Africa this weekend after the Black Stars drew with Ethiopia this afternoon.

2022 World Cup Q: DR Congo stun Tanzania to move top of Group J

Tanzania’s Taifa Stars were dislodged from the top of the group J following a 3-0 loss on Thursday in a World Cup qualifier match staged at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Taifa Stars were eyeing maximum points at home against the Leopards in the fifth match of group stage matches but were slowed down in their push to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Kim Poulsen’s men found themselves trailing following Gaël Kakuta’s goal in the tenth minute, beating Aisha Manula for the opener.

Stars were pushing for a leveler but things went worse in the 66th minute as they conceded the second goal courtesy of Nathan Idumba Fasika’s strike.

Five minutes to stoppage time, Ben Malango put the final nail in Stars’ coffin, a strike that took off the pressure from the visitors.

Group J standings

DR Congo now lead the group with eight points, one behind second-placed Benin who have seven same as Tanzania but are inferior in goal difference. Madagascar are rooted at the bottom of the group with just three points.

Benin have a chance of going top with a win over Madagascar as the two sides lock horns today evening.
