Asante Kotoko striker Georges Mfegue Omgba has provided a fresh update as he eyes a return from an ankle injury picked up during the club’s match day 20 Premier League clash against Gold Stars fortnights ago.

The 24-year-old was forced off just after the break after he had netted a brace as an opponent fell on his ankle which saw him injure his ligaments.

Mfegue was kept out of Kotoko’s goalless drawn game against Eleven Wonders on matchday 21 in Techiman. Media report had it that the Cameroonian will be on the sidelines for weeks but has today confirmed that he’s back Adako Jachie training ground with the rest of the group but will be out of tonight’s game against Karela United.

He wrote on his official Facebook page; “happy to announce that I have resumed training little by little but I will support my teammates for the next one on the stands I want to get back to the pitch quickly I love you go Kotoko”

Mfegue has been excluded from the matchday squad for tonight’s game which kicks off at exactly 6:00pm but is expected to return against King Faisal this weekend.

The striker has scored six goals so far in the league with three assists.

Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Dr. Kwame Kyei, has declared his side who currently lead the Ghana Premier League (GPL) table as champions of the season with 13 games to go.

The Porcupines currently occupy the top spot on the league log with 45 points after 21 games with the closest teams being Bechem United and Aduana Stars who are on 38 points each on the second and third positions respectively.

Seven points separate the sides as things stand, though the Reds still have one game in hand which will be played this night at the Baba Yara Stadium against Karela United and the the gap can be extended to nine should Ogum and his men win this fixture.

Kotoko impressive run in the league has left many people saying that the title race is well and truly over and Dr Kwame Kyei in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM concurred to those claims.

“As for the league (GPL), we will win it. In fact, we have won it already, the fans should just calm down.”

Asante Kotoko’s next game is on Thursday night, at 6 pm as they take on Karela United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Georges Mfegue who picked an injury during the Gold Stars game is out of the squad together, Clinton Opoku who has been on the sidelines after his debut against Aduana Stars returns to the team. Isaac Oppong continues to be on the sidelines with recurring injuries.

Hearts of Oak earned a point against Berekum Chelsea in a Ghana Premier League match day 22 game.

The match played at the Berekum Golden City Park saw both sides start with some real intensity.

Chances were few and both goalkeepers were virtually on a holiday.

It was Berekum Chelsea that made the first incursion as a close range header from Henry Ainsu was saved by Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richmond Ayi.

The first half ended 0-0 and after the recess, Chelsea tried to tease Hearts of Oak out of their 18 yard box but the Phobians stood firm.

The referee added five minutes but goals were not produced and Hearts earned 1 point as they head back to Accra.

Hearts of Oak are 6th on the GPL table with 33 points and Berekum Chelsea lie 7th with 30 points.

Action returns this afternoon in the Ghana Premier League with seven midweek thrilling games across the nation.

The GPL took a break last weekend to make way for the FA Cup Round of 16 matches to be cleared.

Reigning champions Accra Hearts of Oak will continue with the defence of their title when they head to Berekum to face Chelsea at the Golden City Park.

The Phobians are sixth on the table, 13 points behind leaders Asante Kotoko as we head into the Matchday 22 action.

The Phobians will look to build on their two-game winning run in all competitions as they seek to bridge the gap between them and those above them on the table.

Chelsea has sounded notice of winning this encounter and, Hearts will have to dig deep into their arsenal to get something out of this difficult fixture.

Second placed Bechem United also has a difficult away game at Dawu where they will face the might of Dreams FC on the Akwapem Ridge.

Dreams FC can be a handful for visiting teams on their day, and, the Hunters have a job on hand if they are to deny the home side the three points.

Medeama SC will host King Faisal Babes at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa where they will look to bounce back to winning ways in front of their home fans.

AshantiGold SC will be the clear favourites to collect the maximum points when they host Real Tamale United at the Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi especially so, as the visitors have been very poor on their travels this season.

Accra Great Olympics will fancy their chances of getting the three points when they welcome relegation strugglers WAFA to the capital.

The Dade Boys have been very strong at home this season, and, they are the bookmakers favourites to win this fixture against the academy lads who have failed to win on their travels.

Bottom side Elmina Sharks will look to pick the three points when they welcome fellow bottom three side Eleven Wonders to the Nduom Sports Stadium where they can be a worry for any opposition if they find their rhyme.
