Head coach of Karela United FC Bismark Kobi-Mensah has expressed his displeasure over the 1-1 draw his side played with Kumasi Asante Kotoko in a Ghana Premier League match day 22 game.

Karela drew with 10 men Kototo and Kobi-Mensah believes his side was disappointing on the day.

“Seriously I am very disappointed and for the first time I put the blame on my players. We had a numerical advantage but my players never showed hunger and desire, this is the second time that I feel disappointed in my players this season”

Kotoko are still leading the Ghana Premier League with 46th points.

Karela are 9th with 30 points on the league log.

The 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League continued with midweek action across the venues.

League leaders maintained their 8-point gap as they rallied from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Karela United in Kumasi. Kotoko’s captain Abdul Ganiu was red-carded in the 27th minute.

Hearts Of Oak secured a goalless draw with Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park while second-placed Bechem United also played out a goalless stalemate with Dreams FC at the Dawu Park.

Kelvin Matthew Andoh in the 35th minute gave the visitors the lead with a superb header.

The opener ensured Karela United takes absolute control of the game, putting up beautiful passes and dominating play from their backline.

Richmond Lamptey and Richard Boadu picking up the pieces begun to command the midfield, inspiring their upfront to operate effectively.

Eventually, Asante Kotoko SC draw parity courtesy Cameronian attacker Frank Mbella Etouga. The predator netted the equalizer in the first half stoppage time to send Asante Kotoko SC on level throwing to break.

After recess, Coach Prosper Nartey made few incursions having introduced Justice Blay for Samuel Boateng. Imoro Ibrahim with his attacking prowess and brilliant free-kicks came close to getting the homers the winner on several occasions.

Asante Kotoko SC dominated play in the entire department but always had Kelvin Matthew Andoh and Umar Bashiru of Karela United tormenting their defense line.

Into the last embers of it, Blay located Christopher Nettey on the right with the defender dribbling his way into the penalty box, where he had support from Richmond Lamptey but failed to return the pass having ball run out for goal kick.

Asante Kotoko shared spoils with the Aiyinase based outfit at home, dropping point despite top of the league table with 45 points before the clash.

Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has named his men for the Premier League matchweek 22 clash against Karela United this evening.

The Reds are hosting the Anyinase-based club at the Baba Yara Stadium with Ogum making four changes to his squad that played goalless against Eleven Wonders in Techiman.

Kwame Baah maintains his place in post ahead of regular starter Danlad Ibrahim.

In defense, captain Abdul Ganiyu will partner Maxwell Agyemang who comes in for Andrews Appau who replaced the unwell Mubarik Yusif.

Imoro Ibrahim will start from the left side of defense with Christopher Nettey coming in for Augustine Agyapong at the right-back position.

Sheriff Mohammed maintains his place in midfield with Richard Boadu and will partner Mudasiru Salifu who returns to the team in a three-man midfield.

The attack will see Samuel Boateng replacing Dickson Afoakwa on the right side with Richmond Lamptey deploying as a left-winger to replace Amankona in the line up with Franck Mbella Etouga leading the lines as usual.

The Porcupines who sit on top of the league log are seven points richer than Bechem United who second place with 38 points who drew with Dreams FC – a win will stretch Kotoko’s lead to nine points.

Asante Kotoko have gone six matches without defeat (3 wins, 3 draws) scoring 10 goals and conceding only one in the process in their last six games.

The Porcupines have been on fire in their last three home games scoring ten goals – (3-1) against Accra Lions and (2-0) against Dreams FC and (5-0) against Gold Stars.

Karela United have huffed and puffed in the League – winning two, losing two and drawing two in their last six matches. Their away record in the League has been less impressive – two defeats, one win in the last three away matches, scoring once (against WAFA).

Aside their fire power, Asante Kotoko seem to have found a solid midfield partnership between Sheriff Mohammed, Richmond Lamptey and Mudasiru Salifu. The trio have played a major role in the ascendancy of the club – with Richard Boadu and Justice Blay giving them a good balance in the heart of the pitch.

Asante Kotoko will miss the services of their workaholic attacker Georges Mfegue after his injury against Gold Stars two weeks ago. His compatriot, Franck Etouga is okay and will be part of the team for the game after picking a knock at training.

Clinton Opoku who has been out of the team for some weeks returns to the side after recovering from his injury and is part of the players at camp. Isaac Oppong continues to be on the sidelines.

Asante Kotoko drew with Karela in the reverse fixture 0-0 at Ayinase in the first round of the season.
