EXPLAINED: Why Franck Mbella has not featured in Asante Kotoko pre-season friendlies

The first vice chairman of Kotoko’s National Circles Council, Nana Kwame Dankwah has revealed why Asante Kotoko star striker, Franck Mbella Etouga did not play against Ghana Army FC.

The club’s topscorer last season has been out from the team’s pre-season friendlies because of his health status.

Nana Kwame Dankwah reveals that the striker was rushed to hospital on Friday when Kotoko defeated lower division side Ghana Army FC 4-0 in a pre-season friendly on Friday morning.

During a Twitter Space on Saturday morning Dankwah said: “Mbella Etouga and Mfegue are still at the club and part of the team for the new season. They did not dress in the game against Panthers FC but Mfegue dressed just that the coach opted to rest him,”

“In the game against Army FC, I arrived at the venue late and when I asked of Mbella, I was told he has been sent to the hospital in a car. He was not feeling well that is why he did not play in that game,” he added.

However, footy.ghpush.com/ can confirm that Etouga has been discharged from the hospital and is currently with the team at their hotel in East Legon.

The betPawa sponsorship is not for the Ghana Premier League – Karela United CEO

Chief Executive Officer of Karela United, Elloeny Amande has been left fuming over the distribution of the GPL sponsorship to the clubs.

The Karela United boss in an interview following a meeting between the Ghana Football Association hierarchy and premier league clubs described the sponsorship as “not for the league.”

“How much are we [the clubs] getting? How much are we taking from these transactions? Are we going to take all of these monies that come, and put it into administrative cost at the federation level? How do the clubs survive? How do the clubs move forward?”

“There was opposition, we raised our opposition. We told the [GFA] President and his team what we thought should be done but obviously I am not the decision-maker. I can only make my point…I don’t think this sponsorship is for the league. If it were for the league, the bulk of it would be going to the clubs,” he told Asempa FM.

BetPawa signed a three-year deal worth $6 million to be the league’s headline sponsor, but information from the recent meeting suggests that the clubs together will not earn a third of the sponsorship.

As it stands now, the GFA will spend a million dollars on league promotion and marketing, $245,000 and $300,000 on administration and construction of the mini stadium.

The league clubs will receive $455,000, meaning every club will earn $25,278 from the BetPawa sponsorship.
