Giants Asante Kotoko have announced that their planned pre-season trip to Turkey has been cancelled.
The Porcupine Warriors were billed to travel to the transcontinental country last Sunday to continue their pre-season campaign ahead of the start of the 2022/23 season.
However, the club has declared that the trip has been cancelled due to difficulties in entry VISA acquisition.
Asante Kotoko SC are close to appointing a new head coach after reaching an agreement with former Burkina Faso national team gaffer Seydou Zerbo.
Zerbo has arrived in Ghana since last night to conclude negotiations and other documentations to become the next head coach of the Porcupine Warriors.
The 59-year-old who is nicknamed “Krol” after a Dutch tactician is a replacement to Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum who recently resigned from his post.
Dr. Ogum guided the Ghanaian giants to clinch the Ghana Premier League title for the first time in eight years.
Zerbo’s last job was the handling of the Burkina Faso national team at the 2020 CHAN tournament in Cameroon. The Stallions exited at the group stages.
The highly-rated tactician begun his coaching career in the 2013-14 season when he was in charge of Rail Club du Kadiogo.
He later coached Bankuy Sports from 2014 to 2016 before heading to SONABEL and giants ASFA Yennenga.
Zerbo’s last team was Union Sportive des Forces Armées before he was handed the local national team job.
He is expected to guide the Fabulous team to defend their Ghana Premier League title, make an impact in the CAF Champions League and also in the Ghana FA Cup.
Kotoko will face Burkina Faso champions Rail Club du Kadiogo in the first preliminary round of the Champions League set to begin in September.
Ghanaian attacker Bernard Morrison scored his first league goal for Yanga at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in the Tanzanian NBC Premier League on Saturday.
Morrison scored his first goal in Yanga’s 2-0 away win over Coastal Union FC, propelling Yanga to second place in the league rankings.
He scored the opening goal of the game, putting the visitors up 1-0 after only four minutes, with a close-range strike.
With a superb shot within the 67th minute mark, Fiston Mayele added the second goal of the match to secure victory for the Young Boys.

Karela United defeated Great Olympics 6-5 in a penalty shootout to claim points at the ongoing 2022 Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) G6 tournament in Accra.
The Aiyinase based outfit grabbed a win over Great Olympics in the penalty shootouts after the game had ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Per the rules of the GHALCA G6, penalty shootout will be played to determine a winner in any drawn fixture where the winner gets two points while the loser receive just a point.
Despite the lack of goals, the showpiece at the Accra Sports Stadium was not lacking entertainment, and that continued in a shootout after the two teams could not be separated in the regulation time.
Liberian international Varney Sandro had the golden opportunity to open the score for Great Olympics on the 25th minute but he blasted the ball wide.
Great Olympics created chances of their own in the first half but the individual brilliance of Karela United goalkeeper Felix Kyei denied them from opening the score.
In the final ten minutes, Karela United attacker Richard Berko saw a shot parried away by the Great Olympics goalkeeper after they had gained possession to dominate the game.
In the second half, Great Olympics were dealt with a big blow as Rodney Appiah went down with a knee injury, the son of ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah was replaced by Emmanuel Agyemang Badu.
Great Olympics remained in the ascendancy as last ten minutes grew ever nearer, with the final chance of normal time falling to Antwi who sent an inswinging curler inches wide of the far post.
The entire duration of the match ended in a 0-0 draw which forced it into a straight penalty shootouts per the regulations of the competition.
Karela United defeated Great Olympics 6-5 during the shootouts after Great Olympics midfielder Prince Afrifa was fisted out by goalkeeper Felix Kyei.

Crystal Palace came from behind to record a 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the English Premier League at the Selhurst Park.
Wilfried Zaha cancelled out Ollie Watkins opener for Southampton before adding another to give Palace the lead.
Jean-Philippe Mateta completed the comeback to claim all the three points for Leicester City. Jordan Ayew was crucial for the side as he played 70minutes for Palace.
The 30-year-old operated from the right-wing for Patrick Vieira’s side. Ghanaian versatile lad, Jeffrey Schlupp marshalled the midfield for Leicester City, as he saw his sublime right-footed strike ruled offside by VAR on 26th minute.
Schlupp, 29, made way for Luka Milivojevic on the 82nd minute for Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace are 10th with four points whiles, Aston Villa sits 14th with three points.

Southampton inflicted a home defeat on Leicester City in the English Premier League at the King Power stadium.
Daniel Amartey and Mohammed Salisu featured for both Leicester City and Southampton respectively.
Che Adams equalised James Maddison’s opener, before slotting home the winner for the Saints.
Daniel Amartey paired with John Evan’s at the heart of defence for the Foxes. Amartey, 27, played full throttle for Leicester City.
The former FC Copenhagen defender has played all three games so far for Leicester this season.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Salisul lasted the entire duration of the game for Southampton.
The 23-year-old recently agreed to finally avail himself for the Black Stars after a long talks.
Southampton are twelfth with four points whereas, Leicester City are eighteenth with just a point.

Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto’o had words of praise for Asante Kotoko striker Franck Mbella Etouga following his exploits in the betPawa Premier league.
The Cameroonian was snapped up by Kotoko in 2021 with his countryman Mfegue Omgba. Both players have been immense for the Porcupine Warriors, particularly Mbella who netted 21 goals for the side last season.
His strikes helped the Kumasi-based side to wrestle the Ghana Premier League title from arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.
In an exclusive interview on WarmUp Plus on Saturday, Eto’o, a Qatar Legacy Ambassador, gave his verdict on Mbella.
Mbella has been a subject of transfer rumours in the last few months due to his finishing prowess. He is still with Kotoko and training ahead of the new season.
Francis Abu, a promising player from Ghana, has officially joined Cercle Brugge in Belgium.
The 21-year-old signed a three-year contract with Cercle Brugge after leaving Danish Superliga team Nordsjaelland.
In the 2021/22 season, Francis Abu led Nordsjaelland with seven goals and five assists.
“Abu is a young dynamic midfielder who has shown his potential in various positions during the past seasons in Nordsjaelland.
“We believe that competition within the squad will raise its level and also give more possibilities and alternatives to the technical staff,” said technical director Carlos Aviña.
Since July2019, the graduate of the Right to Dream Academy has appeared in 60 games for the Nordsjaelland first team.
