Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema crowned 2021/22 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has won the 2022 UEFA Player of the Year award after his phenomenal 2021-2022 season where he conquered the Champions League title alongside his teammates.

Benzema scored 15 goals and delivered 1 assist in the 12 matches he played for Madrid during the 2021-2022 edition of the Champions League. The French attacker was the best player on the team who conquered the European title, so it’s clear that he deserved this award.

The French striker is expected to win the 2022 Ballon D’Or when the ceremony takes place in October. Benzema completed the best season of his career and was the best player in the world of football last campaign. Furthermore, Real Madrid also managed to have a very successful season, winning La Liga in dominating fashion while also shining in the Champions League.

Karim Benzema had been flying under the radar for too many years. Now it’s his time to collect awards.

Hearts Of Oak youngster Ushau Abu joins Nsoatreman FC


 
Hearts Of Oak’s youngster Ushau Abu has joined newly-promoted Ghana Premier League side Nsoatreman FC. 

The 22-year-old joins the Bono-based outfit on loan ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Abu was signed by the Phobians in a three-year deal prior to the start of last season from Betekum Chelsea to replace Benjamin Afutu, who left for Egypt to sign for El Sharkia Dokhan FC.

But he has not been able to impress as expected and he could find it difficult to get much playing time in Samuel Boadu’s set-up ahead of the season, hence the decision to go on loan.

Abu spent one season at Golden City Park and made over 30 appearances in the league and FA Cup for the Blues before joining Hearts.

He has also had a stint with Wa Suntaa Sporting Club.

OFFICIAL: Asante Kotoko confirm the signing of left-back John Tedeku

Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of West African Football Club [WAFA] defender, John Tedeku.

The former Red Bull Salzburg’s trialist has penned a three year deal with the Porcupines and will come in as a replacement for departed Imoro Ibrahim.

The 20-year-old during the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season featured 27 times for WAFA, scoring a goal with one assist.

Asante Kotoko announced the acquisition of the nimble-footed defender on Thursday afternoon.

Tedeku will become Asante Kotoko’s 12th signing in this transfer window after Frederick Asare, Steven Mukwala, Ernest Osei Poku, Moise Pouaty, Eric Serge, Enoch Morrison, Shadrack Addo, Sheriff Mohammed, Nicholas Mensah, Nicholas Osei Bonsu and Thomas Pele.

Hearts of Oak has denied signing forward Maxwell Abbey Quaye in the just ended transfer window.

Earlier reports in the local media suggested the Phobians snapped up the enterprising striker on a free transfer before the closure of the Ghanaian transfer window last Monday after the expiration of his contract with Great Olympics.

But the Phobians Administrative Manager and Head of Finance, Hackman Aidoo has denied the reports claiming the Phobians had captured the player on free transfer.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old is out of contract with Great Olympics and is expected to join any club of his choice.

Abbey Quaye has been capped once by Ghana’s senior national team and was included in the Ghana squad for the 2021 AFCON tournament.

Sudanese giants Al Hilal reward Asante Kotoko 

Sudanese powerhouse, Al Hilal, have rewarded Ghana’s Asante Kotoko for their contributions to the development of football in Africa.

The Porcupine Warriors’ CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah, received a plaque presented by the officials of the North African outfit on behalf of the club.
 
A club statement read by Kotoko on Thursday read,

“CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah received a plaque on behalf of the club from the management of Al Hilal in recognition of Asante Kotoko’s contribution to the development of football in Africa.”

The 25-time champions of Ghana have produced numerous talented players who have made great history on the African continent, with two of them-Ibrahim Sunday and Abdul Razak-winning the Africa Player of the Year while playing for the Ghanaian giants.

They are two-time Africa Champions—1971 and 1983—having played in 9 finals.

In 2010,  Kotoko were adjudged as  Africa’s club of the century by the International Football Federation of History and Statistics (IFFHS).

Kotoko is currently in Sudan, preparing for the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League and the Caf Champions League, both of which begin next month.

Full Hearts of Oak squad list for 2022/23 season leaked; Abbey Quaye, Nana Kwesi Darmang excluded

Hearts of Oak have announced a 35-man squad list for their 2022/23 season’s campaign.

The Phobians will begin their title defense in a crunchy fixture against Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park.

The 35-man squad list of Hearts of Oak include William Dankyi who was released by the club.

Surprisingly, Maxwell Abbey Quaye who joined the club from Olympics on the transfer deadline day was left out of the club’s squad for the new season together with former TP Mazembe, Prince Nana Kwesi Darmang.

Newly-signed defensive midfielder Eric Esso and other new acquisitions namely Junior Kaaba, Eric Ofori Antwi, Yassan Ouatching Konadu Yiadom etc were included.

Hearts of Oak confirms Sulley Muntari’s departure from the club

Former Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari is unlikely to feature for Hearts of Oak ahead of the new season.

The 37-year-old is currently a free agent after the expiration of his contract at Hearts of Oak.

Muntari signed a six-month deal with the Phobians, winning two trophies during his short stint with the club.

He won this year’s President Cup against Asante Kotoko and also helped the team defend the MTN FA Cup title last season.

According to the Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, the club is in talks with Muntari but it is unfortunate that the transfer window has been shut, which means he will not be part of the team for the new season.

“Muntari has a decision to make but the most important thing for us is that, he came in and play for us for a particular period which we had an agreement”

“If he will continue with us, there will be another agreement to continue because these are footballing issues but if he has a different decision you cannot force somebody to do something for you if the person has a different decision”

“For now, the club is still in talks with Muntari but unfortunately the transfer window has closed, so if there is anything that can be done, we will look at it but unfortunately the transfer window has closed” he told Onua TV.

2023 CHAN Q: Aduana striker Bright Adjei earns late Black Galaxies call-up ahead of Nigeria clash

Aduana Stars forward, Bright Adjei has earned a late call-up to the Black Galaxies ahead of the 2023 CHAN Qualifiers against Nigeria.

Ghana will host their sworn rivals in the first leg of the qualifiers at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday, August 28, 2022, with kick-off scheduled at 16:00GMT.

The return game will be hosted at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The playing body and the technical team led by Annor Walker as the head coach have arrived in Cape Coast for the much-anticipated game.

Adjei, who was impressive for the Dormaa-based club will team up with the rest of the playing body.

The winner of the tie will qualify for the CHAN tournament.

Coach Annor Walker is aiming to end Ghana’s CHAN drought having missed out on the last three editions in Rwanda, Morocco, and Cameroon.

The next edition is slated for Algeria from Sunday, January 8 to Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

GFA ExCo member Randy Abbey blasts Hearts Of Oak for fielding U-20 players in GHALCA G6 competition

Ghana FA Executive Committee member, Dr Randy Abbey, has voiced dissatisfaction with Hearts of Oak’s approach to the ongoing GHALCA G6 competition.

The Phobians fielded their young players for the competition and lost all of their games by significant margins, including the 4-0 loss against Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday.

The FA Cup holders lost their opening game 3-1 to Tarkwa-based Medeama SC.

The former Ghana Football Association spokesman feels Hearts of Oak have disrespected the competition by fielding unknown players.

According to him, the team could have withdrawn from the mini tournament.

“You don’t disrespect your team and tradition this way. You don’t disrespect an association this way. You don’t disrespect your fans this way,” he told Original FM.

Reports also revealed while the second team were engaged in the GHALCA G6, the senior team were playing the club’s oldies.

Hearts of Oak are currently preparing for the return of the Ghana Premier League, which begins on September 9.

Former Hearts Of Oak star Winful Cobbinah joins Egyptian side Petrojet SC

Ghanaian midfielder, Winful Cobbinah has secured a move to Egyptian top-flight side Petrojet SC. 

The 30-year-old joins Petrojet from rivals Cleoptra Ceramica on a free transfer.

The former Hearts of Oak midfielder was part of eight players unveiled by the Egyptian topflight side on Tuesday.

“Welcome to our latest deal, Ghanaian star Winful Cobbinah joins Petrojet from Ceramica in a free transfer deal,” the club wrote on Twitter.

Cobbinah is expected to add some creativity in the Petrojet midfield following his enormous experience in the game.

The WAFU Cup winner joins Mohamed Othman, Mohamed Elkomi, Mohamed Sharyf and Mahmoudf Ghaly as the club’s latest signings.

Winful Cobbinah moved to Egypt after leaving Albanian giants KF Tirana, where he joined Cleopatra Ceramica.
The ex-Hearts star also had a spell in Saudi Arabia with Najran SC.
