GFA release Match Officials for Ghana Premier League Match-day 1

The 2022/23 betPawa Premier League is scheduled to begin this weekend from September 9-12, 2022.

The season promises to be exciting with the entry of  Nsoatreman FC, FC Samartex 1996, Kotoku Royals FC and Tamale City into the topflight League.

Appointments for the opening round of matches have been announced.

CONFIRMED: Asante Kotoko vs RC Kadiogo second leg to be played at Baba Yara Stadium

Asante Kotoko’s CAF Champions League preliminary stage second round match against RC Kadiogo will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The comes after the CAF Club Licensing department granted Asante Kotoko SC license to use the Baba Yara Stadium for its home matches.

The collaborative work between the Club, GFA and the National Sports Authority ensured that the Stadium meets the club licensing requirements.

The game is scheduled for Sunday, September 18,2022 and will kick off at 3:00pm.

Meanwhile, Ivorian referee Patrick Tanguy Jean Phillipe Vlei has been named as referee for the match.

He will be assisted by compatriots Koabenan Prosper Adiouman and Kalidou Bamba with Kouassi Frederic Francois Biro.

Langtombong tombong Tamba from Gambia will be Match Commissioner and Christiana Baah is the COVID- 19 Officer.

‘Don’t push Asamoah Gyan to the World Cup to disgrace himself’ – Osei Palmer advises

Owner and bankroller of Tema Youth, Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer has reacted to Asamoah Gyan’s desire to play at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar later this year.

The former Ghana captain has been trending since week ago after revealing he wants to make a comeback to the Black Stars.

Gyan’s comments have sparked heated debate among Ghanaians and Palmer, who worked with the all-time top scorer under the Kwasi Nyantakyi erstwhile administration has kicked against Gyan’s World Cup ambitions.

“Gyan is my brother, a friend and everything, I will tell him to leave the stage because he has paid his dues for Ghana. When he scored his 50th in Gabon I think he celebrated that goal in front of me and there was a reason why he did that because that was all that I wished for him to get his 50th goal”

“He is one of the best players we’ve had, he has paid his dues so we should not push him to the World Cup to disgrace him. He played for Legon Cities and we all saw that the soul is willing but the body is weak”

“So, I will tell Gyan to allow us to go and do our business or he should go as an inspirer because he is a legend and that is what we lack in most of the tournament, I have been to competitions several times (AFCON, World Cup) and what other counties does is, they bring their legends and are given special place because when the going gets tough, they will be there to support because of their experience but we are not celebrating our legends and that is the whole issue” he said.

GFA capo Kurt Okraku promises fair officiating in the 2022/2023 season

Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku, has promised improved officiating for the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League campaign.

He made the statement during the launch of the betPawa GPL on Friday, September 2, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Some decisions by match officials in last season’s domestic competition were subjected to controversies, typically in the Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts.

The centre referee Joseph Kenny Padi was suspended until the end of the season after wrongfully awarding Kotoko a penalty on Matchday 24.

Okraku is optimistic about a good showing by match officials in the impending season.

“Officiating has always been on the lips of everybody but officiating will improve this year. All the 45 officials centre and lines[linesmen] are camped in Prampram undergoing training,” he said.

“We believe they will be ready for the new season and the FA will offer them every opportunity to excel. Those who don’t excel, they know, usually what will happen.”

The FA Boss also revealed an increment in the compensation of referees for the season with the amount undisclosed.

The Premier League begins on September 9, 2022.

Black Galaxies of Ghana are set to receive appreciable financial package for booking a ticket for next year’s Chan tournament in Algeria. The playing body and the technical handlers will receive $10,000 each for the feat, according to reports in the local media.

The reports explained further stakeholders will facilitate payment to ensure players and technical members are duly paid on time.

Black Galaxies over the weekend beat Nigeria to qualify for Chan tournament. The qualification did not arrive on a silver platter as the team booked their ticket via penalty kicks.

After scoring two goals in the first leg at the Cape Coast Stadium, Black Galaxies conceded two goals in the reverse fixture to make the score 2:2 on aggregator.

A winner had to be decided through the spot, an avenue which propelled the team to victory. Black Galaxies converted all their kicks as Nigeria only missed one. Black Galaxies will then qualify on 5:4.

Asante Kotoko appoint Algerian Boudjabi Nazim Mohammed as new video analyst

Reigning Ghana Premier League champions, Asante Kotoko have announced Boudjabi Nazim Mohammed Islam as the new Club Video Analyst.

The Algerian previously worked with Algerian fold, Es Setif and he is expected to add up to the Technical brains of the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the new season.

His first official duty will be when Asante Kotoko slug it out with Burkinabe side RC Kadiogo in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Friday at the Stade Yamoussoukro in Ivory Coast.

The team recently appointed former Burkinabe international, Seydou Zerbo as the New Head Coach who was in charge of the team during their preseason campaign in Sudan last month.

Ahead of the 2022-2023 Ghana Premier League, the defending champions will host newly promoted side, Nsoatreman but game has been postponed due to Kotoko’s continental challenge.

The venue for the International friendly between Brazil and Ghana has been confirmed.

The two teams will face off in Le Havre – France on Friday, September 23, 2022 as part of preparations towards the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 finals.

Ghana are paired with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay in Group H while Brazil sits in Group G alongside Switzerland, Cameroon and Serbia.

Erik ten Hag warned Manchester United “are still far away” from challenging the Premier League elite, despite beating Arsenal on Sunday to make it four wins in a row.

Two second-half goals from Marcus Rashford, after Bukayo Saka cancelled out debutant Antony’s opener, gave United a 3-1 victory over their old foes at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have collected a maximum 12 points from their past four matches in their best run of form in the league since April 2021 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United have defeated Arsenal and Liverpool during a streak that has taken them from bottom of the division into fifth, but Ten Hag does not believe his side are title contenders.

“We have to get better if you want to win trophies in the end,” Ten Hag said.

“I understand fans that they dream and, of course, the standards of Man United has to be high, but we are all in the start of a process. We are still far away.

“We have to get doing things much better than we do now. And that is an investment. We have to go that way together every day, bringing that high standard to [the training ground at] Carrington.

“The players know we have to get better if you want to win trophies in the end. What we have to do is win every game.”

Ten Hag made a change to his starting line-up for the first time in four matches by bringing in new signing Antony in place of Anthony Elanga.

United had less possession (39.5 per cent) than Arsenal and a smaller expected goals (xG) return of 1.35 compared to 1.45 for their opponents.

The hosts managed to pick up another victory, however, and Ten Hag feels his side will only get stronger after spending more time together on the training ground.

“We have to invest in training and in meetings in order to get that in games,” the Dutchman said. “We are just at the start of a process.

“Casemiro has only just arrived; Antony has just got here; Cristiano Ronaldo missed pre-season, so we have to get that practice in.

“Once we do that we’ll be able to control games better. In the process we will dictate games. There’s a long way to go but we are going in the right direction.”

United’s improved form comes on the back of losing their opening two matches against Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford, conceding six times and scoring just once.

They are only the third side in Premier League history to win four in a row after losing their opening two, after Tottenham in the 2011-12 season and Arsenal in 2018-19.

“From day one we have set high standards and values,” Ten Hag added of his side’s recent performances. “We work hard to create a winning culture.

“I’m not now thinking we are at that point, but we are on our way, heading in a good direction and have to keep this going.

“We’ll continue pushing the attitude and mentality by setting high standards every day. Good is not good enough – we have to do better and I think there’s room for improvement.”
