‘The team will be in good shape for Mozambique clash’ – Black Meteors coach Tanko assures

The Black Meteors have being camping for weeks now ahead of their African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique.

Ghana drew a bye in the first of three- round qualifying series for the tournament to be staged in Morocco next year.

Ghana will face Mozambique who defeated Mauritius 5-1 on aggregate in the face round.

The Black Meteors are expected to travel to the East Africa Nation for the first leg before hosting them in the second leg at the Cape Coast stadium.

Engaging in trial matches, the Ghana U-23 team took on Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC in a friendly on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium, winning two goals to one.

Both goals were scored in the second half.

With encounter scheduled for this month, Black Meteors head coach Ibrahim Tanko says the side will be ready to before game against Mozambique.

“We are preparing them very well, this week we have a lot time to train with all of them,” he told Radio Gold.

“We still have two and a half weeks to the game so I think by then we will be ready for the game.”

“If you look at the squad, we have almost six or seven players from the Karim Zito squad so I think it’s a good start and we hope that they will show something,” he concluded.

The first and second leg is scheduled for October 21-23 and October 28-30 respectively.

New Edubiase United will host Skyy FC on Mactch Day Two of the Access Bank Division One League at the Obuasi Len clay Stadium. The former Premier League giants lost their first game of the season ton Basake Holy Stars and will be chasing their first three points at home whiles Skyy FC fight to maintain their smooth take off after picking all the points against Ebusua Dwarfs in week one.

Ebusua Dwarfs after losing their first game of the season will be playing Nations FC at the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium. The visitors (Nations FC) are coming into the game fresh from their 3-0 victory against Swedru All Blacks whiles Dwarfs will be aiming for their first three points of the season.

At Gomoa Fetteh – WAFA SC will play against Asekem FC after drawing against Future Stars in week one. Asekem FC also drew their first game of the season at home.

The Access Bank Division One League will continue this weekend as teams who failed to make an impact in week one seeks to change their fortunes whiles others aim to continue their winning streak on Match Day Two.

Twenty-four games were played across the League centers with as many as forty-nine goals being recorded across the centres.

B.A United will be playing Bofoakwa Tano in the Sunyani derby at the Coronation Park on Sunday.

B.A United drew their first game of the season against Nkoranza Warriors and will be fighting for their first three points of the season whiles Bofoakwa Tano aim for their second win on the spin following an opening day victory courtesy a stunning strike from Junior Alipio.

Former Premier League side Techiman Eleven Wonders will host newly promoted side Maana FC at the Ohene Ameyaw Park at Techiman. Eleven Wonders lost their first game against Debibi United whiles Maana FC won against Kumbung Binbiem FC on day one.

Young Apostles will push for their second win of the season against Berekum Arsenal after picking their first three points in an away game against Unity FC.  Berekum Arsenal also lost their first game at home against Mighty Royals and will be hoping to get their season back on track on Sunday.

The Ghanaian sensation has refused contract extension with the Ghana Premier League giant Hearts of Oak SC despite his contract nearing expiration.

The 21-year old attacker joined the Capital based outfit in 2019 on a three-year contract. Having being very phenomenal and instrumental for the Phobians since joining, the club wants to tie him down with a fresh contract but the talisman have declined.

He has two months left in his contract which ends in December, 31 2022.

Despite, the Management trying to extend his stay the Kumasi born have refused and says, he wants to move out of the country for greener pastures.

The Black Meteors and Black Galaxies kingpin was an integral member of the team where he inspired them to win the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League and MTN FA, scoring 11 goals alongside.

He again scored his side winner in the 2021-22 MTN FA Cup finals against Bechem United FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Currently, he is a member of the Black Stars team expected to make the squad to Qatar World Cup 2022, slated to kickoff in November.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Mohammed Kudus to north London in the January transfer window.

That’s according to German publication BILD (via The Express), who claim that Spurs, Everton and Borussia Dortmund are all tracking the development of the Ajax attacking midfielder ahead of launching a potential bid for the 22-year-old this winter – who is said to be valued at what would appear to be an extremely reasonable figure of just €10m (£8.7m).

However, the report goes on to state that it is currently the Bundesliga side who look to be leading the race for the Ghana international, as Dortmund manager Edin Terzic is reported to be more likely to hand the youngster regular first-team minutes than he would receive at either Tottenham or the Toffees.

“Star boy”

Considering just how impressive Kudus has been for Ajax this season, coupled with Tottenham somewhat lacking a creative spark in their midfield so far in 2022/23, it is not difficult to understand why Fabio Paratici would be interested in a deal to bring the 22-year-old to north London in the January transfer window.

Indeed, over his eight Eredivisie appearances – only two of which have come as starts – in the current campaign, the £9m-rated talent has been in excellent form, having already found the back of the net on four separate occasions – an average of one goal every 64 minutes – as well as taking an average of 1.3 shots and completing 1.9 dribbles per game.

These returns have seen the 16-cap international average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.16, currently ranking him as Alfred Schreuder’s 10th-best performer in the top flight of Dutch football so far this season.

However, it has undoubtedly been the midfielder’s performances over his three Champions League fixtures that have most caught the eye, with Kudus having scored three goals and registered one assist in games against Rangers, Liverpool and Napoli.

These metrics have seen the 22-year-old “star boy” who “can’t stop scoring” – in the words of Kwame Benaiah – average a quite remarkable SofaScore match rating of 7.43, ranking him by far and away as Ajax’s best player in the tournament.

As such, when taking into account that the Ghanaian sensation has been directly involved in more goals than Spurs’ current central midfield quartet of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp combined this season, it is evident that Antonio Conte is very much lacking a midfielder in Kudus’ mould at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And, should the youngster indeed be available for as little as £8.7m this winter, Paratici simply cannot afford not to launch a bid for the 22-year-old, as, going off his performances so far this season, getting a deal over the line for Kudus at this price would undoubtedly represent a complete steal in the transfer market.

Great Olympics has dragged its former Head Coach, Daniel Annor Walker, to the Player Status Committee (PSC) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over what the club has termed as a breach of contract between the coach and club.

Joined in the case, mentioned among 17 new cases filed at the Committee, was newly promoted Premier League side, FC Samartex 1996, which happens to be the new destination of Annor Walker.

Walker guided the Wonder Club to a respectable fifth place finish in the previous season’s league but left to join the Samreboi based team for the current season.

That came as a shock to fans and management members of the club who argued that the experienced gaffer was contracted to the club at the time he dealt with the new club; an assertion disputed by close associates of Walker.

A source close to the Wonder Club confirmed to the Times Sports yesterday on the club’s position on the matter, insisting that it was important contracts were respected.

The source disclosed that Walker will face a Breach of Contract charge and cite Samartex for Inducement.

“We are taking Samartex to the Committee for “Inducing Annor to sign a contract at a time that he was under contract and had committed verbally to renew. As a result, he abandoned his work without informing his employers,” the source said.

Specifically, the Times Sports was also informed that Coach Annor Walker signed the Samartex contract with three months left on his deal with the Wonder Club.

Other cases will see a number of players seeking the Committee to determine their status with their respective clubs.

Ghana drop one place in latest FIFA rankings

The Black Stars of Ghana have dropped one place in FIFA’s latest world rankings.

The four-time Africa Cup of Nations winners are now 61st, after being previously ranked 60th. This means the Black Stars are still the least ranked country heading into the 2022 World Cup.

On the continent, the Black Stars are ranked 11th, with Senegal maintaining top spot. Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria and Algeria complete Africa’s top five.

Brazil also maintain their top spot on the globe in a very familiar top 10, with Italy leapfrogging Spain into 6th, the only change.

172 games were played in total for the latest rankings, with Ghana (5) playing the most games.

Hearts of Oak have left the country to Mail to take on AS Real Bamako in the first leg encounter of the second round of the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup.

The former Liberty Professionals trainer has named a 22-man squad for this first leg clash which is scheduled to come off on Saturday in Bamako.

Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie Barnie has been recalled from the Black Meteors camp to join the travelling team.

The return leg will be held at the Accra Sports Stadium on the weekend of October 14-16, 2022.

The winner of the tie will move to the play-off round where they will face one of the 16 losers from the CAF Champions League second round.
