CAF CC: Real Bamako vs Hearts of Oak, Preview, Team News, Predicted Lineups & TV Coverage

AS Real Bamako and Hearts of Oak will face off in the second preliminary round of the Caf Confederation Cup Saturday evening 4pm at Stade du 26 Mars.

The Malian side progressed to this phase after a 3-1 penalties victory over Burkina Faso outfit AS Douanes Ouagadougou. Both legs of the first preliminary round had ended goalless before AS Real Bamako finally sealed a 3-1 penalties win at home two weeks ago.

Unlike the Malian side who have had two tastes of the competition, Hearts of play their first game in the Caf Confederation Cup after been handed a walkover in the first preliminary round.

Inactiveness could have impacted the Accra based side but three Ghana Premier League games on road is a somehow a good preparations towards this weekend’s fixture. Hearts of Oak have failed to win any of their league games before the Ghana Premier League season was suspended at week 3.

Despite any victory, the former Ghana league champions walk on a good news of assembling and having fair knowledge about their team just like Real Bamako who already understand their team from the two games against AS Douanes Ouagadougou.

Hearts of Oak lost 1-0 to Aduana Stars in opening day of the Ghana Premier League , drew in derbies against Great Olympics and Asante Kotoko.

The two draws leave Hearts 14th position on the Ghana Premier League table.

Real Bamako need to be watchful of some key Hearts of Oak men. The likes of Gladson Awako, Samuel Inkoom, Afriyie Barnieh could pose a threat to the Malian side.

Gladson Awako has helped Berekum Chelsea reach the group stages of the Caf Champions League in 2012 and also played a major role in TP Mazembe’s African football dominance between 2014 and 2017. Awako, 31 has recently be a central figure in Ghana’s qualification to 2023 CHAN in Algeria.

Along with Afriyie Barnieh who emerged Black Galaxies’ top scorer in the CHAN qualifiers. Barnieh, 21, has received Black Stars call-up for Pre-World Cup friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua as Ghana lost and won respectively.

Barnieh featured in victory over Nicaragua in Spain and nearly scored. Samuel Inkoom was in the first eleven when Ghana stormed the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and was part of the Black Stars squad at Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Despite failing to score from open play over the two legs, Real Bamako will pose scoring threat especially when they are playing at Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako. Hearts of Oak must be aware of Moussa Kone and Ibourahima Sidibe who will be instrumental if Real Bamako is to carry the day.

The 2022-2023 Malian Premier League has not yet started with Real Bamako only featuring in the Caf Confederation Cup so far beating Burkina Faso side AS Douanes on penalties after goalless over a two-legged affair in the first Preliminary round.

The Malian giants have no major injury worries with the likes of Makan Sambaly, Abdoulaye Mariko, Aboubacar Wague and Cheickna Diakite expected to start against Hearts of Oak.

The Ghana Premier League has been suspended due to court injunction placed by Ash Gold but Hearts of Oak have began preparations for Real Bamako since Monday. The Ghanaian side touched down in Mali on Thursday evening and expected to train at the match venue Friday.

The Ghanaian side have vowed to surprised the Malian side in the first leg as they name a strong 22-man squad.

Hearts meanwhile have seen changes in their technical department after firing Samuel Boadu a week ago and appointed David Ocloss as assistance coach but acting as the interim specifically for Real Bamako games while a search for permanent boss continues with likes of last season’s Ghana Premier League winner with rivals Aante Kotoko Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum and former Black Stars coach and one who guided Kotoko to 2018 Caf Confederation Cup group stage C.K Akonnor linked.

Central African Republic international Yassan Ouatching has recovered on time to be part of the traveling squad to Mali while Salifu Ibrahim is left behind after the play-maker failed to pass a late fitness test.

Cameroonian International Junior Kaaba also travelled while Dr. Congo International Linda Mtange missed out.

Youngsters Gideon Asante and Rashid Okine have been handed places in the 22-man squad list with newly-signed midfielder Prince Nana Kwasi Darmang.

“I have not retired from international football” – Asamoah Gyan

Ghana’s all-time leading topscorer, Asamoah Gyan has claimed that despite not playing for the Black Stars in recent times, he has not given up playing for the national team again.

The 36-year-old last played for the Black Stars during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament where Ghana was booted out in the knockout stage.

Gyan has been unattached since leaving Legon Cities FC after the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

The former Sunderland and Al Ain forward thinks he hasn’t given up on the Ghana senior national team despite not playing for more than a year.

“I have not retired from international football, I still feel that I can play for Ghana but I have to return to playing actively at the club level first before thinking about the Black Stars”, Asamoah Gyan said in an interview on Kumasi-based Wontumi Radio/TV.

Ghana will be playing in the upcoming World Cup. The four-time Africa champions have been paired in group H of alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has talked openly about his friendship with Andre Ayew, who replaced him as leader of the national team.

The idea that the two footballers are engaged in a conflict has severely damaged their once-warm connection.

But according Gyan, Andre Ayew is not a close friend of his but they get along well despite not having spoken since the last time he played for the Black Stars.

“Andre (Ayew) is not my friend but a teammate, I have my own friends that we vibe and all that. I must confess that I have a good relationship with him, we sometimes talk about boxing matches but he is not that my close friend. We have not talked to each other since my absence from the Black Stars”, Gyan said in an interview on Wontumi Radio/TV in Kumasi.

Asked whether he is ready to play for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Gyan who is currently 36-year old said that, “I will have to access myself first whether I’m ready for that challenge before accepting to play for the Black Stars. I have not decided on for now that but if I access myself and am ready, I will return to the national team and play again.”

Asamoah Gyan last featured for Ghana at the 2019 African Cup of Nations where the Black Stars was eliminated from the knockout stage of the tournament.

He has been unattached since leaving Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities after the 2020/21 league season.

Asante Kotoko SC first choice Goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has lost his biological father.

According to reports, the Dad passed on at the early hours of Friday after he battled with illness for a period of time in Sunyani.

“I arrived at the national U23 camp just yesterday and I even called him (his father) and told him I have arrived safely,” Danlad told Ghana Sports Market.

“This morning we had just finished training and I got a call from home that my father has passed away. ” the national goalkeeper revealed to this website.

Danlad with immediate effect asked to leave camp to bury his father.

King Faisal name Godwin Ablodey as assistant coach

King Faisal have appointed their former player Godwin Ablordey as their first team assistant coach.

The Ghanaian gaffer returns to the dugout after leaving Asante Kotoko SC three years ago to support Jimmy Cobblah as deputy when the 2022-23 BetPawa Premier League resumes.

Ablordey having stepped into football managerial role since retiring as a player, is expected to inspire the Insha Allah Boys to a successful.

He previously played for King Faisal where he rose to become their skipper before joining Asante Kotoko SC.

It will be recalled in 2020, Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak were scheduled to play a friendly game in the UK to mark Ghana’s independence day but the game never came on due to some challenges which were mainly associated with COVID-19.

African Origin Travel and sports tourism and Proball international were the organizers of the scheduled game which was to trip supporters of Kotoko and Hearts to the UK to watch the game.

Many Asante Kotoko fans who made financial commitments to the trip have their monies not refunded as of today.

Following Kotoko’s announcement that the team will be playing a friendly game in Central America, Belize in November 2022, some of the supporters of the club who have their monies locked have reacted.

African Origin Travel and sports tourism are in charge of the travel arrangement scheduled Bezile trip according to Kotoko.

The supporters who have their monies locked with the failed trip have stressed to the management of Kotoko to ensure that their monies are refunded through African Origin Travel and sports tourism before talking about another trip.

Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan is confident the Black Stars will make it out from the group stage of the 2022 Worldcup in Qatar.

Asamoah Gyan reacting to a question by Sir Joe Laka on Kessben TV’s Midfield Action Sports show retorted that the Black Stars can easily make it out from the group stage.

He stressed that the Black Stars have made it before when all the odds were against them in 2006.

“Yes, we can qualify, easily. In 2006 you remember the group we found ourselves. The countries we played with were ranked top 5 in the FIFA rankings then yet we qualified.

“Since we have done it before, we can do it again. There are differences in the generation of footballers but the only thing is to believe in themselves that they can. I have the confidence we will qualify from the group stage” He said.

Black Stars are in Group H of the Qatar 2022 Worldcup with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Ghana will play their first game with Portugal on 4th November, play South Korea on the 28th of November and wrap up the group stage games with Uruguay on 2nd December 2022.

Ashantigold SC legends petition Ghana FA to review decision to demote the club

Ashanti Gold SC legends have petitioned the Ghana FA to review their decision to demote the club for playing a match of convenience with Inter Allies last season.

In a statement released by the club on October 6, 2022, the legends led by Tony Baffoe stated that the decision by the DC is not coherent with the evidence gathered for the investigation.

The legends stated categorically that they are dissatisfied with the decision of the DC to demote the club and have asked the GFA revisit their decision on the alleged match fixing case and act in the positive interest of the Association and its members in accordance with the appropriate rules and regulations of the Association, as well as, subsequently lift all suspensions and restore the Miners to its original status as an integral member of the Association.

Liberty Professionals will host Uncle T. United in week two of the Access Bank Division One League after winning their first away game of the season against Golden Kicks in week one.
