2022 World Cup: Ati Zigi to be Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper after injuries to Wollacott and Richard Ofori

St Gallen goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati Zigi is set to be Ghana’s No.1 shot-stopper at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following injuries to Richard Ofori and Jojo Wollacott.

Ati Zigi has been a regular at St Gallen this season, making 14 appearances, keeping two clean sheets and conceding 21 goals.

Ofori and Wollacott have reportedly been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries and are expected to be omitted from the final squad of the Black Stars which will be announced on Monday, November 14, 2022.

Wollacot missed Charlton’s 3-3 draw against Burton Albion on Saturday after injurying his finger in the warm up.

The injury is believed to be serious, hence ruling him out of the tournament.

Ofori was ruled out of Orlando Pirates’ game against Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-final of the Carling Black Label Cup because of injury. He was dropped from Pirates’ squad for the game.

Ofori and Wollacot were named in the 55-man provisional squad for the World Cup but will miss out on the final squad.

Reports: Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim gets late Black Stars call-up

According to multiple reports in Ghana, Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has earned a late call-up to be part of the final Black Stars squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

This comes following the injury to first-choice goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott.

The England-based goalkeeper was missing in action on Saturday when Charlton Athletic played against Burton Albion in the English Football League One.

Unfortunately, he could not play any part in a game he was originally scheduled to start due to a finger injury.

While it was reported that the injury was nothing serious, the latest information gathered indicates that it will see Joseph Wollacott missing the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

However, the medical team of Charlton Athletic is set to conduct a scan on the finger on Monday to ascertain the extent of the injury.

Meanwhile, Ghana is also potentially set to miss experienced goalkeeper Richard Ofori at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Orlando Pirates goalie is also injured and likely to be excluded from the final Black Stars squad.

As a result, sources are reporting that Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim has been invited to the camp of the Black Stars in the 26-man squad expected to be announced by head coach Otto Addo on Monday.

Black Stars goalkeeper, Jojo Wollacott will miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup after suffering a finger injury over the weekend, Joy Sports understands.

The goalkeeper’s entourage confirmed the news to Joy Sports.

The 26-year-old was expected to start in goal for Charlton Athletic during their league game against Burton Albion on Saturday.

However, Wollacott pulled out of the game after sustaining an injury during the warm up ahead of the game.

The Addicks boss, Ben Garner was hoping the goalkeeper’s injury was not enough to rule him out of the Mundial.

But after undergoing scans, the player will play no part of the Black Stars campaign in Qatar.

He was expected to be named in Otto Addo’s final 26-man squad for the World Cup on Monday, November 14.

Wollacott was key to the Black Stars’ qualification for the World Cup after making his debut in October in a qualifier against Zimbabwe.

Black Stars goalie Jojo Wollacott suffers injury ahead of Ghana’s World Cup squad announcement

Ghana Black Stars goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott got replaced mere minutes ahead of Charlton Athletic’s League One game against Burton Albion to a suspected finger injury.

The shot stopper was named as a starter two hours prior to kickoff but was replaced in goal by Craig MacGillivray 12 minutes before the start of the game.

Reports indicate Wollacott injured his finger during warm ups and checked out of the warm up session but didn’t make a return with MacGillivray maintaining his spot as a starter.

Wollacott was coming off an inspired performance in the Carabao Cup after pulling off a save in Charlton’s 5-4 win in a penalty shootout over Stevenage to progress to the Round of 16.

The injury comes right before Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup is officially named by head coach Otto Addo on Monday, November 14.
