Rashford scores double as Man United beat Leicester

Marcus Rashford scored twice to continue his hot streak and help Manchester United overcome Leicester in the Premier League.

Rashford is in the form of his career and is leading United’s resurgence, taking his tally to 24 goals for the season with strikes in each half at Old Trafford.

Both efforts were clinical finishes, latching on to passes from Bruno Fernandes and Fred before bearing down on goal and coolly slotting past Danny Ward.

Substitute Jadon Sancho finished off a fine team move to seal all three points for Erik ten Hag’s side, but it could have been a very different story.

Leicester created the better chances when it was goalless and their failure to find a way past David de Gea proved costly.

The Spaniard made a stunning reflex save to deny Harvey Barnes from close range and kept out Kelechi Iheanacho’s diving header with another superb stop.

Defeat ended Leicester’s three-game unbeaten run and an inconsistent season sees them remain in 14th place in the table.

Glid Otanga returns to the squad after serving a game ban for accumulation of cards.

Dennis Nkrumah Korsa misses out on the game against Aduana FC this afternoon due to yellow card accumulation.

Hearts of Oak are currently four points behind Aduana who are the current league leaders and they play host to them at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Matic has handed a starting role to the Cameroonian import who tasted his first game of the season against Berekum Chelsea last Saturday.

2022/23 GPL: Preview – Hearts Of Oak face leaders Aduana Stars

Second placed Accra Hearts of Oak will battle leaders Aduana FC on at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. The two teams are separated by four points – with Aduana FC sitting at the top of the table with 32 points while Hearts of Oak occupy the second spot with 28 points.

The leaders won the first leg 1-0 and will be hoping to do the double over Hearts of Oak to brighten their title credentials. Hearts of Oak have won two, drawn two and lost one in their last five matches while Aduana FC have two wins, two draws and one loss in their last five Premier League outings.

The Ogya lads have added to the stables Hans Kwofie, Zakaria Mumuni, Elvis Opoku, Richard Danso and Daniel Darkwah. Coach Samuel Fabin will have selection headache going into the game as Godfred Poku Wakii, Stepehen Anokye Badu, Kwame Adom Frimpong and Justus Torsutsey are all available for selection.

Hearts of Oak were boosted by the Gladson Awako, Konadu Yiadom, Seidu Suraj and Dennis Korsah in the game against Berekum Chelsea as they scored three late goals to beat the former champions 3-1 in Accra.

New signings Kwabena Anane, Albert Eonde and Linda Mtange were the toast of fans on Sunday following a dilatable display against Berekum Chelsea. A win for Aduana FC will extend their lead at the top of the table while Hearts of Oak will reduce the point’s gap to one if they pick the three points.

The match which is scheduled for 3pm kick off will be broadcast live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247.

Ghana winger Osman Bukari scores twice as Red Star Belgrade defeat Cukaricki

Forward Osman Bukari netted a brace as Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade strolled to victory against Cukaricki in the Super Liga.

Bukari scored at either side of half time as Red Star secured a 3-0 win at the Red Star stadium.

Red Stars Belgrade got off to a great start after Alexander Katai opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a fine strike.

Four minutes later, Bukari doubled the lead before sealing victory with his second in the second half.

The Black Stars winger has now scored three goals in his last two matches for the Serbian side, who sit comfortably at the top of the table.

The former KAA Gent player has now netted seven goals n 17 matches in the Serbian topflight league.

Bukari joined Red Star Belgrade in the summer transfer window after a season on loan at French club FC Nantes

Hearts will be hoping to close the gap between them as they are four points behind the Dormaa-based club.

Southampton win heaps misery on Potter’s Chelsea

Chelsea’s poor form under manager Graham Potter continued as a trademark free-kick from James Ward-Prowse earned the Premier League’s bottom club Southampton a surprise victory at Stamford Bridge.

Ward-Prowse scored the game’s only goal in first-half stoppage time, sending a curling effort over the Chelsea wall and into the corner from the edge of the penalty area.

The result means Chelsea have now won just two games in their last 14 in all competitions.

Managerless Southampton will hope it can kick-start their attempts to escape the relegation zone.

The visitors started magnificently in west London and twice went close to scoring before Ward-Prowse’s strike, with Kamaldeen Sulemana shooting straight at Kepa Arrizabalaga before Kalidou Koulibaly blocked Stuart Armstrong’s follow-up.

The half-time introduction of Raheem Sterling breathed new life into the Blues’ toothless forward line, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ crucial block denied the England international an equaliser midway through the second period.

Romain Perraud followed suit minutes later with a tremendous goalline clearance to prevent a Sterling header from ending up in the net, as Potter’s team failed to score for the sixth time in 2023.

There was a lengthy stoppage towards the end of the second half because of an injury to Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who was caught in the face by Southampton substitute Sekou Mara.

The 33-year-old needed oxygen treatment on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher, although he was conscious as he left the field.

Nottingham Forest draw dents Man City title hopes

Manchester City missed the opportunity to return to the top of the Premier League as Chris Wood’s late goal earned Nottingham Forest a point at the City Ground.

Bernardo Silva’s rocket from 20 yards opened the scoring and the visitors missed chances in abundance to put the game to bed.

Erling Haaland volleyed against the crossbar and ballooned the rebound over the top after Aymeric Laporte’s header was brilliantly saved by Forest keeper Keylor Navas.

Morgan Gibbs-White’s fizzed cross was tapped in at the far post in the 84th minute for Wood’s first Forest goal.

The draw extended Forest’s unbeaten home run to eight games and dealt a blow to City’s title hopes after Arsenal returned to the top with a 4-2 comeback win against Aston Villa earlier on Saturday.

Match Report: Nsoatreman hold Asante Kotoko

The Week 18 match of the 2022/23 season in the Ghana Premier League between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko has concluded in a goalless tie.

Today, the two teams battled it out at the Nana Awuah Koramansah Park for the first three points of the second round of the top-tier Ghanaian league. Despite numerous opportunities in the game, neither side scored in the first half.

Asante Kotoko exhibited a strong fighting spirit after the break, but Nsoatreman FC’s steadfast defense prevented them from scoring.

Even though the Reds generated some excellent goal-scoring opportunities, they were unable to convert them, and the game finished in a goalless draw after 90 minutes.

As a result of today’s result, Asante Kotoko has advanced to second place on the league standings, four points behind Aduana Stars.

Nsoatreman FC, on the other hand, is currently ninth on the league table.

Arsenal secure impressive comeback victory against Aston Villa

Arsenal scored twice in stoppage time to win a six-goal thriller at Aston Villa and return to the top of the Premier League.

Jorginho’s shot came off the crossbar and bounced in off Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez to put Arsenal 3-2 up, before substitute Gabriel Martinelli raced clear to score as Villa chased an equaliser.

Villa twice led, through Ollie Watkins and Philippe Coutinho, in the first half.

They were pegged back by goals from Bukayo Saka and Oleksandr Zinchenko either side of the break.

Victory ended Arsenal’s run of three games without a win and took them back above Manchester City after losing to them in midweek.

There was an electric pace to the game from the off, and Villa took the lead inside five minutes through Watkins’ fourth goal in as many matches.

He caught Arsenal cold on the counter, latching on to Matty Cash’s long pass before beating William Saliba and finding the far corner.

It took only 11 minutes for Arsenal to respond. Moments after Tyrone Mings cleared Eddie Nketiah’s shot on to the bar, Saka levelled with a powerful effort into the roof of the net.

Coutinho, making his first league start under Villa boss Unai Emery, put the hosts back in front, rounding off a wonderful team move with a calm finish from inside the area.

On the hour Zinchenko found space at the edge of the box and fired in at the near post from a short corner for his first Arsenal goal, before Nketiah fired over minutes later.

Martin Odegaard shot wide with 14 minutes remaining and it looked as though it would not be Arsenal’s day until Jorginho and Martinelli’s vital contributions.
