Danlad Ibrahim finally reacts to perceived ‘competition’ with Frederick Asare for Kotoko’s No.1 spot
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim claims he is at the club to contribute to the progress of the Porcupines and not to compete with anyone for the no.1 spot.
Frederick Asare filled Danlad Ibrahim’s spot in the betPawa Premier League while he was away from Asante Kotoko for national assignments with the Black Stars and the Black Galaxies for the World Cup and the CHAN tournmanet respectively.
Danlad, however, in a recent post on his official Twiter handle has played down any competition at the club despite calls from some section of the Kotoko fans and the media to claim the first-team spot in the ongoing season.
He further stated that Asare has his support if the technical team chooses him to be the number one.
Asare joined the Porcupines this season and started as deputy to first-choice Danlad this campaign campaign.
“We are determined to win the league” – Aduana Stars’ striker Isaac Mintah
Isaac Mintah, the forward for Aduana Stars, has stated that the team is resolute in its quest to win the current BetPawa Premier League. Following their 2-0 win against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Ogya lads have surged ahead by five points, with 16 matches remaining.
Mintah, who scored both goals in the game, is confident that Aduana Stars can still emerge victorious, as they did in 2017.
“We will win the league; we the players are determined to win the league. I want to write my name in the history books of Aduana…we have made up our mind to pick all available points both home and away.” He said after the game.
The team is currently at the top of the league table with 35 points and is also competing in the MTN FA Cup, where they are set to face Asante Kotoko in the round of 16 this weekend.
Newcastle fans start fundraiser to help build a new school in Ghana to honour Christian Atsu
Following the tragic death of former Magpies and Chelsea winger Christian Atsu, Newcastle United fans have initiated a fundraiser to honour his memory.
The supporters group, Talk of Tyneside, is hoping to continue Atsu’s legacy of building a new school in Ghana by raising funds for the charity Arms Around the Child, which Atsu had been working with as an ambassador.
Atsu’s involvement had helped to kickstart the project, and with more than £600 already raised, Talk of Tyneside is urging fellow fans to donate to the cause.
Atsu was confirmed to have died during the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria, prompting an outpouring of tributes from his former clubs.
Newcastle United paid their respects to Atsu before their match against Liverpool, observing a minute’s silence at a charged St James’ Park.
Atsu’s popularity among the club’s fans has led to a strong show of support for the charity initiative.
Talk of Tyneside said: ‘Christian Atsu was a well-loved figure on Tyneside and this has been highlighted by the scale of tributes paid to him by Newcastle United Football club and its fans.
‘Following his passing, we were hoping to find a way to give supporters a way to show appreciation for his service to the club, and raising money for a fantastic charity that he worked with feels like the perfect way to do so.
Ellie Milner from Arms Around The Child added: ‘Christian touched the lives of so many with his charity work, we are determined to keep his legacy alive by raising funds to finish the school buildings in Senya Beraku – and support the children he loved so much.’
Atsu had been missing for 12 days before he was confirmed dead by his agent Murat Uzunmehmet.

‘Atsu’s lifeless body was found under the rubble. Currently, more items are still being taken out. His phone was also found.’
Another of Atsu’s agents – Nana Sechere – also announced the news.
‘It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well wishers that sadly Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning,’ he said.
‘My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support.’
Newcastle United – where Atsu spent four years of his career – said Atsu would be ‘fondly remembered’ by everyone at the club.
‘We are profoundly saddened to learn that Christian Atsu has tragically lost his life in Turkey’s devastating earthquakes,’ they said on social media.
‘A talented player and a special person, he will always be fondly remembered by our players, staff and supporters. Rest in peace, Christian.’

The second round of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League commenced over the weekend across all the venues.
Aduana Stars increased the gap between themselves and fellow title rivals Hearts of Oak after beating them 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
After a goalless first half, Isaac Mintah struck twice in the 47th and 64th minute to ensure that Aduana Stars grabbed all three points to ground themselves in pole position for the jackpot.
Hearts were hoping to build on their victory over Berekum Chelsea last weekend but the Ogya boys were really on fire from the blast of the whistle to the end of proceedings.
Having now bagged 35 points, Aduana FC stay on top with seven more points than Hearts of Oak who have dropped to fourth place.
Hearts, however, have the same points as Asante Kotoko who failed to get a win away at Nsoatre on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Bechem United climbed to second place with a 3-0 victory over a struggling Great Olympics side who are yet to get a win in their last four matches.
Abdul Karim scored his first goal of the season in the 26th minute before Hafiz Konkoni added two more to cement the victory for the Hunters.
Bechem now have 30 points and are above both Kotoko and Hearts on the table.
King Faisal failed to capitalise on Legon Cities’ loss to move away from the relegation zone when they lost 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea.
Dreams FC achieved a slim win over Bibiani God Stars at Dawu Park thanks to Agyenim Boateng’s goal while Samartex handed Real Tamale United back-to-back defeats with a 3-0 victory.
Tamale City also got a late win over Karela United to move closer to King Faisal.
The Tamale-based side are now two points away from the relegation zone.

Match report: Keyekeh nets brace as Samartex trounce RTU
Emmanuel Keyekeh scored two goals as FC Samartex 1996 comfortably dispatched Real Tamale United (RTU) 3-0 on Sunday – their biggest win since the start of the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The match-day 18 fixture at Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samreboi saw head coach Annor Walker make his return to the dugout for the first time since returning from CHAN 2022 with Ghana’s Black Galaxies.
Keyekeh welcomed the gaffer back with his first goal of the day with a free-kick which came off RTU’s Mohammed Sadat in first-half stoppage time.
And 10 minutes into the second half, the central midfielder landed his brace for the hosts with a low strike from range.
In the 5th minute of added time, newly-signed striker Opoku Agyemang made it 3-0 with an effort from outside the box after coming off the bench earlier.
The victory moves FC Samartex into 9th place in the GPL standings with 26 points. RTU drop two places and are two points behind after 18 matches.
Brace hero Emmanuel Keyekeh received the man-of-the-match award.

Ghanaian teenager Kobbie Mainoo makes Premier League debut for Manchester United
English-born Ghanaian teenager Kobbie Boateng Mainoo made his Premier League debut on Sunday afternoon when the side thrashed Leicester City 3-0 at Old Trafford.
The 17-year-old replaced Marcel Sabitzer for the final 10 minutes of normal time.
A double from red-hot attacker Marcus Rashford and a goal from Sancho secured all three points for the Red Devils.
It would be recalled that Kobbie Mainoo was handed his senior Manchester United debut in a Carabao Cup quarter final tie against Charlton Athletic on January 10, 2023, which United won 3-0 following a goal from Antony and Marcus Rashford’s late brace. He played 60 minutes for the Reds, before being withdrawn for Casemiro.
Mainoo before earning the first senior debut scored in a friendly against Cadiz, during the winter training camp.
Mainoo, born in Stockport, becomes the second Academy prospect promoted into senior football for the first time by Ten Hag, after striker Charlie McNeill.
Mainoo was part of the Manchester United FA Youth Cup-winning squad last season, along with Alejandro Garnacho.
Mainoo who joined Manchester United at 9 years has represented England at Under-17 and Under-18 levels.

Aduana Stars showed why they are the league leaders in Ghana’s top-flight football league with a commanding 2-0 win over Hearts of Oak in a top-of-the-table clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Mohammed Kudus scores first-ever free-kick goal, dedicate to late Christian Atsu
Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus paid a touching tribute to his late compatriot Christian Atsu in a Dutch Eredivisie match against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday.
Kudus scored his first-ever free-kick goal and celebrated by lifting his shirt to reveal a shirt with the inscription “Rest in Peace Atsu” in honour of the Ghanaian player who tragically passed away recently.
Atsu had been trapped under rubble for nearly 12 days following the devastating earthquake in Turkey before being confirmed dead on Saturday.
Kudus’ solemn celebration was a touching tribute to his fellow Black Stars player, whose death has left many heartbroken.
The Premier League clubs also honoured Atsu by holding a minute’s applause this weekend, while the games played in the Ghana Premier League featured a minute of silence.
Atsu’s body is expected to arrive in Ghana on Sunday evening, where his family will begin the process of his burial.
