Hearts of Oak fans, who were angry following their team’s defeat to Great Olympics, stormed the club’s training ground on Friday morning to prevent coach Slavko Matic from training.
The Phobians had suffered a 1-0 loss to the Dade boys in a week 19 fixture of the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday. The supporters of the Phobians are reportedly unhappy with the performance of the Serbian trainer ahead of the Super Clash with Asante Kotoko.
The fans want Matic to step aside as they believe he has shown poor performance and cannot lead the team to victory against Asante Kotoko SC.
The fans stopped Matic from entering the training ground for close to an hour, causing disruption to the team’s scheduled training session at Pobiman on Friday morning.

The ex-Team Manager of Hearts of Oak, W.O Tandoh, has criticized the team’s current players, claiming that they lack competitiveness.
Tandoh, who left the Phobians last year, has been appointed as an assistant coach for Aduana Stars, the current league leaders for the 2022/2023 season. He was also a part of the treble-winning team under Coach Samuel Boadu in the last two seasons.
In an interview on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports, Coach W.O Tandoh voiced his disapproval of his former club’s current players, stating that they do not possess enough competitive spirit.
“The truth of the matter is that, if we would all be honest, the current crop of Hearts players is not good.”
“I’ve said it everywhere: if Hearts want to be a league contender, they need to put together a proper team.” He said.
“The team we lead to win the treble and also go on to defend the FA Cup the following season has only seemed retrogression not progression, I’m not here to praise myself but the Management at that time was well organized” W.O Tando added.
“The players and the supporters worked together and we all saw the team’s triumph” He ended.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak are currently 6th on the league standings with 28 points from 18 matches and are trailing league leaders Aduana by seven points.
The chairman of the National Chapters Committee for Hearts of Oak, Elvis Herman Hesse, has guaranteed that the team will bounce back with a win on Sunday.
The Phobians will face their arch rivals in the matchday 20 game at the Accra Sports Stadium in a match that will also serve as the President’s Cup.
After suffering consecutive losses against Aduana Stars and Great Olympics, Hearts of Oak has been under scrutiny. However, Herman Hesse has affirmed that the team will not suffer a third defeat on their home ground come Sunday.
“We are playing Asante Kotoko on Sunday. A game that we need the fans to come on board because we need the three points,” he said on Asempa FM.
“We were not expecting a defeat against Great Olympics but it has happened and we have to move on and I want to assure the fans that we will not suffer a third defeat on Sunday.
“Hearts of Oak will not lose against Asante Kotoko on Sunday. We will surely pick up all three points. We only have to stay united ahead of the game,” he added.
Hearts of Oak now sit 6th on the league log with 28 points following their 1-0 defeat against Olympics on Wednesday in the matchday 19 games.
Kobby Jones, the spokesperson for the National Chapters Committee, has urged for the removal of Slavko Matic before their match against Asante Kotoko on Sunday. This comes after Hearts of Oak’s loss to Great Olympics, 1-0, on Wednesday during matchday 19.
The upcoming match, scheduled for 15:00GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium, will see Hearts of Oak hosting Kotoko.
Prior to the match, Jones has called for the dismissal of the Serbian coach, stating that the 43-year-old is inadequate in leading the team to success. Jones recommends that David Ocloo, the assistant coach, take charge of the team instead.
“We will not allow Matic to lead Hearts of Oak to play against Asante Kotoko,” he told Asempa FM.
“We will not allow him to train with the players at Pobiman. The game on Sunday is very important for us the supporters.
“He [Slavko Matic] is from Serbia and if anything happens, he will leave but we will endure the pain.
“He has sacked all the senior players and now the team is failing to perform. We will not allow that to happen.
“We don’t need the services of Matic because we are even told that he does not listen to the board chairman.
“We know the management are in charge of the team but we will prevent the coach from holding training today.
“We will support David Ocloo, who is the assistant coach to lead the team for the Kotoko game.
“If the management does not agree, then it means they are happy with what is happening but we will not allow that,” he added.
The second round of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League continued with matchdayb19 fixtures on Wednesday across all the venues.
Aduana Stars, who had recently beaten giants Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, were held to a goalless draw at home by King Faisal, failing to extend their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.
Despite expectations of a win against struggling King Faisal, the Kumasi-based side produced a defensive masterclass, frustrating Aduana on their own turf.
This result has given hope to other title contenders, such as Asante Kotoko, who closed the gap with a 1-0 victory over Bechem United in Kumasi.
Enock Morrison scored the only goal with a powerful strike in the first half, ending Kotoko’s three-game winless run in all competitions.
Accra Lions continued their impressive form this season with a 2-1 victory over Karela United in Ayinase, condemning the western club to their second consecutive defeat while temporarily moving to third place.
Meanwhile, Berekum Chelsea beat Samartex 1-0 at home, and Kofi Kordzi and Sampson Eduku scored a goal each as Legon Cities and Tamale City shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the El Wak Stadium in Accra.
In a surprising turn of events, bottom-placed Kotoku Royals emerged as the biggest winners of the day, beating Dreams FC 3-0 thanks to a brace from Collins Kudjoe and one goal from Andy Kumi.
Bibiani GoldStars also beat Nsoatreman 2-0 at home.

Leaders Aduana FC were held to a 0-0 draw by relegation-threatened King Faisal in their 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 19 clash at Nana Agyeman Badu (NAB) I Stadium on Wednesday.
It was a tough encounter between the two sides and the visitors deserved to earn a point.
Faisal even had a penalty in the 35th minute but Samuel Adom Antwi saw his effort from the spot saved by goalkeeper Joseph Addo.
The crucial save ensured the sides headed into the break on level terms.
At the opposite end, Aduana dominated the second half pushing for the breakthrough goal but were denied severally by the great defending and the heroics of Faosal shot-stopper Benjamin Asiedu. The result – a 4th draw in 9 home matches so far – moves Aduana FC to 36 points but see their lead at the top cut to five following wins by Asante Kotoko and Accra Lions. King Faisal, on the other hand, remain 16th with 21 points.

The experienced forward played for his team when they faced Nsoatreman FC in a Week 19 match of the Ghanaian top-flight league.
Tetteh’s goal helped Bibiani Gold Stars secure a convincing 2-0 home victory at the end of the game. Following the match, Tetteh expressed his excitement in a Facebook post and thanked the Almighty God.
“We serve a living God??, my God is still in his Miracle Business ?????? 8th goal and counting….. #zlatantetteh #miners,” the former Bechem United poster boy said.
Following the win in midweek, Bibiani Gold Stars have climbed to fourth on the Ghana Premier League table.
Enoch Morrison, the in-form midfielder for Asante Kotoko, maintained his impressive performance in the midweek match against Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League, scoring the solitary goal to secure a 1-0 victory for his team at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
After the game, Morrison expressed that the win was crucial in preparing the team for the upcoming Super Clash match against Hearts of Oak in a post-match interview.
“We worked hard for the win. We knew we need the three points to ginger us for the Hearts of Oak game; it’s a big match but not that big for us because we are capable and know what we can do,” Enoch Morisson said after the Bechem United game.
The Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will be played on Sunday, March 5.
