Coach Chris Hughton faces a significant setback as Black Stars center-back Daniel Amartey is poised to sit out the upcoming match against the Central African Republic due to a fresh injury setback.

Daniel Amartey, the defender currently plying his trade in Turkey, has recently sustained a new injury and is anticipated to remain sidelined for at least the next two weeks.

This injury was evidently acquired during a training session, following his full-time participation in their previous competitive match against Dynamo Kiev.

Amartey’s team, Besiktas JK, had their league clash with Adana Demirspor postponed over the weekend, which means he will not be available for the crucial return leg fixture against the Ukrainian giants at Vodafone Park tonight. The outcome of this tie could significantly impact their bid to advance into the 2023/24 UEFA Europa Conference League.

The talented shot-stopper, Fatao Seidu, has officially joined the ranks of Asante Kotoko during the ongoing transfer window. Hailing from the newly-promoted Division One League side PAC Academy, Seidu brings his skills to the two-time CAF Champions League titleholders.

This acquisition positions Seidu as the fourth goalkeeper on Asante Kotoko’s roster, joining the ranks of Danlad Ibrahim, Frederick Asare, and Moise Pouaty in the club’s goalkeeping department.

Notably, Asante Kotoko has been active in the current transfer window, securing the signings of Nanabayin Amoah, Yahaya Dawuni, Yussif Mohammed Nurudeen, Henry Ansu, Kalo Ouattara, Andrews Ntim Manu, and Bernard Somuah.

Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has heaped praise on new signing Bernard Somuah.

The Porcupines announced the signing of the talented teenager on Wednesday, August 30.

“We’re pleased to confirm the signing of Bernard Somuah from Afigya Liberty on a three-year deal,” a club statement from the Reds said.

Speaking on the new signing, Coach Ogum described Bernard Somuah as a technically gifted player with all the qualities of a modern-day winger.

“He’s a brilliant player, and he has all the qualities of a modern-day winger. He has hunger for goals, a vision to see the dangers around him, and use space.

“Somuah is technically gifted, and all he needs is to remain disciplined, and I am confident that Kotoko has gotten a real talent,” Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum said as quoted on the website of the club.

The gaffer further appealed to fans to have patience with the 17-year-old and support him to develop.

The 17-year-old who has already had training sessions with the club and has featured in three of the Club’s four pre-season friendlies officially became a Porcupine after passing his medical on Tuesday.

Somuah scored 22 goals last season for his former club and has become an instant fans favourite in the three games he has featured for Kotoko.

Prosper Narteh Ogum is excited to have the skulfful goal threat in his team for the upcoming season.

“He’s a brilliant player, and he has all the qualities of a modern-day winger,” Dr Ogum told scasantekotoko.com.

“Somuah is technically gifted, and all he needs is to remain disciplined, and I am confident that Kotoko has gotten a real talent,” he noted.

Dr. Ogum called on the supporters to be patient with the youngster.

Asante Kotoko secure slender victory against Asekem FC

Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko narrowly defeated lower-tier side Asekem FC in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

The Porcupine Warriors managed a 1:0 against Asekem FC who exhibited great performance on the day.

Before this encounter, Kotoko had drew goalless with another lower-tier club PAC Academy earlier today and wanted to make amends with an emphatic win against Asekem FC.

Asekem FC gave Asante Kotoko a good run for their money with a dazzling performance but failed to get a goal.

It was a young trialist Bernard Somuah who netted the only goal for Asante Kotoko in the encounter.

Somuah, a teenager from Ashanti Region-based colts club Anointing FC scored the goal for the Porcupines before the first half break.

Kotoko returned from the recess to dominate possession but failed to utilize their chances with the game ending 1:0 in their favor kind courtesy Bernard Somuah.

The Porcupine Warriors are expected to engage in more friendlies before ending their pre-season preparations.

Hearts of Oak continued their preparations for the new betPawa Premier League season with a 4-0 win against lower-tier fold Dolphins FC in a friendly encounter at the Kpobiman Sports Complex.

The Phobians paraded a very a strong lineup for the game; Richmond Ayi, Micheal Ampadu, Denis Korsah, Kofi Agbesimeh, Kelvin Asibey, Qwaku Nsoh, Evans Adomako, Martin karikari, Albert Dieudonne, Michelle Sarpong and Siedu Suraj were handed starting roles.

Hearts of Oak opened the scoring after just 12 minutes into the game, Suraj Seidu calmly planted the ball home after receiving a pass from Michelle Sarpong.

Eight minutes later, Suraj Seidu scored again to make it 2-0, before Albert Dieudonne made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time, his first goal for the team.

At the start of the second half, the Phobians made changes to the starting eleven; Richard Attah, Kofi Agbesimeh, Kelvin Asibey, Liventius Attur, Raphael Amponsah, Salifu Ibrahim, Eric Esso, Amankwah Baafi, Hamza Issah and Albert Dieudonne started the half.

Hearts of Oak continued from where they left off in the first half, Albert Dieudonne scored in the 50th minute to grab his brace and make it 4-0 for the team.

In the 79th minute, Hearts of Oak had the chance to extend their lead from a spot-kick but Issah Kukah sent his effort straight into the arms of the goalkeeper as the game ended 4-0.

Hearts of Oak arranged the game as part of their preparations for the 2023/24 betPawa Premier League season which is scheduled to kick off on Friday, September 15.

The Phobians will begin their season against Real Tamale United (RTU) at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale.

Last season, the Phobians endured a torrid season, failing to retain the MTN FA Cup and finishing in 12th place on the league table, avoiding relegation on the final day of the season.

2023 GFA Elections remain suspended as court case adjourned

The 2023 Ghana Football Association election process remains suspended following the adjournment of the case involving the club side, King Faisal, and the football governing body.

The new date for the case is Wednesday, September 6.

On Wednesday, August 30th, there was no court session as scheduled.

As a result, the legal representatives from both parties agreed to set a new date to address their concerns.

The relegated Ghana Premier League team, King Faisal, wants the GFA to be stopped from holding its scheduled presidential election on September 27 in Tamale.

They want this restraint to continue until elections for the representatives of the National League clubs, Regional Football Associations, and the related bodies are completed.

Additionally, King Faisal seeks to declare that a valid Congress cannot be held to elect the President until new representatives for the Executive Council (Exco) have been duly elected.

Moreover, the club based in Kumasi is also seeking a declaration that opening nominations for the election of a new GFA President before elections are held for the representatives of the Exco is both incorrect and unlawful.

Furthermore, Alhaji Karim Grusah’s club wants a declaration that any resolution purported to have been passed by the membership of the current Exco concerning the election of a new GFA President before representatives are chosen for the Exco constitutes a breach of trust, confidence, and loyalty.

In the upcoming election, the current GFA President, Kurt Okraku, is facing a challenge from the former Vice President of the association, George Afriyie, for the highest position.

The Electoral process was halted after the vetting of Aspirants at the Alisa Hotel.
