Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum proud of players after win over Aduana FC

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum says he is proud of his players after they earned a 1-0 win over Aduana FC on match day 5 of the Ghana Premier League.

Lanky forward Kalo Ouattara scored the only goal in the fierce encounter by heading home from a well-curled cross from Richmond Lamptey.

Speaking after the game, Ogum was happy to see his team play well to win the difficult game.

“I’m proud of the boys for their consistent performance; the way we played in Accra, they have been able to reproduce the same in Kumasi.

“You can’t keep the intensity throughout; it was all about energy distribution.”I think we expended a lot of energy in the first half, and in the second half, they came in with a lot of energy, but then we kept our structure on the pitch and changed our game approach, and it worked.”

Match report: Dominant Asante Kotoko defeat Aduana FC in Kumasi

Asante Kotoko SC ended their home predicament in the Ghana Premier League after pipping traditional rivals Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday night.

The Porcupine Warriors registered their first victory in front of home fans this season after recording a 1-0 victory over Aduana in matchday five of the Ghanaian premiership.

The win also sees Kotoko claim back-to-back league victories since November 2022 as they ended a seven-game drawing streak in Kumasi.

Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum made two changes to the team that beat Accra Lions FC in the last round last Monday with Baba Yahaya and Steve Dese Mukwala pushed out of the starting lineup.

Kalo Ouattara, who scored match-winner against Lions, earned a starting role while Georges Mfegue also started the game.

Yaw Acheampong, on the other hand, also made just one alteration to the squad that triumphed over Berekum Chelsea in the Bono Derby last weekend.

Forward Bright Adjei returned to the starting lineup after recovering from a knock to replace Justus Tortsutsey.

The Porcupine Warriors got themselves in the lead after half an hour mark when Ouattara rose highest to head home a well delivered cross from Richmond Nii Lamptey.

Aduana came back from recess as an improved side, but they failed to create meaningful opportunities in the game to even think of getting the equaliser as the Fabulous team grabbed the maximum points.

In his speech, he highlighted the club’s financial sacrifices and ongoing projects.

He emphasized that the board should be praised and appreciated for their efforts.

“We are just sacrificing, spending so much money we deserve praise and appreciation.

“We deserve praise and not unnecessary pettiness and jealousy so when they say Togbe owns it, it’s just because Togbe is funding it or Togbe’s companies are funding it.

“That is why we don’t owe salaries and we should be happy about that.” Togbe Afede added that negativity from Hearts of Oak fans is hurting the club especially its ability to get sponsorships.

Togbe Afede expressed concerns about negative sentiment from some fans, which could impact the club’s ability to secure sponsorships.

New recruit Kalou Ouattara scored the winning goal in the 96th minute to give his side the priceless victory.

The Reds are winless in their last six home matches having drawn all 6 matches, scored 2 and conceded 2. Asante Kotoko sit in 10th place in the League table with 5 points after one win, two draws and one loss in four games.

In the 2020/21 season, Asante Kotoko lost 0-1 at home to Aduana FC whiles the 2021/22 season ended 1-1 with the Porcupines Warriors getting their victory in the 2022/23 season when they came from behind to win 2-1 through Stephen Mukwala and Eric Zeze.

The Dormaa lads have replaced Samuel Fabin with former Ghana midfielder Yaw Acheampong after the former joined Legon Cities following the disappointing end to the 2022/23 campaign.

Yaw Acheampong has the likes of Isaac Mintah, Godfred Poku Wakii, Rich Sackey, Alex Boakye, Bright Enchil, Justus Torsutsey, Bright Adjei, Sam Adams and Emmanuel Gyamfi available for selection.
