Blame NPP and NDC for Black Stars trophy drought – Mubarak Wakaso

1

Ghana midfielder, Mubarak Wakaso has revealed that party politics have ruined Ghana’s chances of winning a trophy, particularly the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Afcon trophy has eluded Ghana’s male senior national team for 38 years despite winning it on four occasions.

The Black Stars came close to lifting the trophy in 2010 and 2015. They won silver medal in both editions to Egypt and Ivory Coast respectively.

Speaking in an interview with Angel TV, Wakaso indicated that the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress are to be blamed for the Black Stars recent struggle to win interview glory.

“I will speak the truth today. Do you know our problem about the game,”he asked.

“Maybe we know but we don’t want to say it. But I think politics ruins the Blacks Stars at times. When NDC is in power, NPP doesn’t want us to win and vice versa.”

“We have to support the team with unity like how we are fighting this virus and take politics out. Me, for instance, I don’t care about NDC or NPP because I haven’t voted before,” he added.

Startimes Ghana Limited, Television right owners of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) have paid the Ghana Football Association (GFA) an amount of $100,000 as part payment of their sponsorship deal with the association.

Out of the total amount $90,000 have been shared to the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs, with each of them receiving $5,000 from the GFA.

The package comes to lessen the financial constraints of the clubs due to the widespread of the COVID-19 disease.

Members of the Division One League also expected the football governing body to come to their aid, but our sources indicate they are yet to receive any stimulus package from the GFA despite approaching them.

However, the GFA is in line to receive some financial assistance from Fifa, as the world football governing body plans to set up a fund to mitigate the financial implications of the Covid-19 pandemic.

And, a member of the Division One League Board who spoke to Oyerepa FM on the condition of anonymity revealed that the GFA has asked them to wait for Ghana’s share of the Fifa forward funds.

“They gave $90,000 out of the $100,000 to the premier league clubs so I asked an EXCO member who is on the GFA Finance committee that I thought there would have been some parachute payment to the DOL clubs because we have no sponsor and the FA has a responsibility to keep us afloat,” he told Oyerepa FM.

He continued: “They said there was no money and I pleaded that even if it’s not from the StarTimes money because we are all under pressure.

“Anyway there’s some money coming ie.the FIFA Forward money which fortunately FIFA President in consultation with the big wigs have agreed to waive all conditions that will make a nation eligible to access the fund.

“I understand DOL will get our fair share because we had no share in the Startimes money.

“Yes on our platform, people are asking questions.”

Ghana midfielder, Edwin Gyimah says leaving South Africa giants Orlando Pirates is his worst football decision he has ever taken in his career.

Gyimah in 2017 left for swedish side Helsingborg after a row with former trainer Muhsin Ertugral. He however returned to south Africa to play for Bidvest Wits.

The 29-year-old has indicated that he regrets leaving the Buccaneers.

“You know in football there are so many things we soccer players need to learn,” Gyimah tells KickOff.com.

“I feel like so many players have learned those kind of lessons. Because one, our private lives play a big role in the game, people we keep around us in our private lives, the people who we take advice from, they play a big role in our career.

“So leaving Pirates… bad friends and the bad decisions from my side, because I didn’t really know the culture of South Africans… I didn’t know, even though I’ve been here since SuperSport [United].

“With the Pirates thing it’s really about something that’s outside football that I couldn’t control, that affected me to take that decision. It wasn’t about the Muhsin incident at all. It was something off the field that pushed me to take that decision.

“You know there are a lot of players who are being influenced by people outside of football. Some will say ‘you playing for Pirates but maybe if you leave Pirates you can go to Europe, you can go here’… you know there are so many things. There are so many kind of advisors that a player gets off the field.

“You know leaving Pirates was the biggest decision in my life that I could take. I regret leaving Pirates because I feel like there was so much in me that I could have offered for the team.

“The supporters loved me, everybody loved me at Pirates, there were no problems there. I feel like I could offer so much for the team, even now I think like I could offer so much.

“When I watch their game, when I watch how they play, I feel like I could still offer something for them. The supporters loved me.

“It was my own decision, nobody chased me out at Pirates. Let me be honest, leaving Pirates I regret because there are some decisions that I have made in the past that didn’t help me.

“The day I left Pirates, that’s when everything stopped in my career. That’s when everything stopped in my life.”
