The General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association(GMA), Dr Justice Yankson has advised the Ghana football Association to cancel the 2019 /2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the past three days has been engaging clubs over the suspension of the 2019/20 football season due to the pandemic and must also report to CAF on the future of the league by May 5, 2020.

A lot of concerns on whether the league season should be continued or be truncated has been raised in recent days, while health experts have also advised that football should hold until September 2020.

Speaking to Happy FM Sports weather the 2019/2020 should be call off, Dr  Justice Yankson is of the view that football should be suspended until there is a clear path for the games to resume after Covid-19.

“At this point in line with measures by the President, we will be breaching the rules if football is allowed to go on. Football is a contact game and one of the preventive measures is to practice social distancing. As it stands now we haven’t been able to reduce the community spread and in line with what FIFA and the UEFA has done, we should hasten slowly and try not to play the game as soon as possible”.

“The more the season prolongs without matches it will be better to consider and start a new season. Even with the current season due to the challenges with Normalisation, we were trying to do a crush program and now there is Covid-19. So this will give us another opportunity for us to prepare well for another season”.

Dr Justice Yankson also disclosed the health authorities will help the GFA in determining when it’s safe for football to return.

“The health officials will help and guide the authorities on when football should return. As it stands now it is very difficult to predict when football should return. We are hoping the cases will not increase and we should all abide by the protocols so football can return soon”.

I was better than Shamo Quaye – Kotoko legend Joe Debrah

Asante Kotoko legend Joe ‘Afriki’ Debrah has said that he was a complete player than HeartsOf Oak playmaker Shamo Quaye while shedding more light on their rivalry.

There has been arguments among football fans since the 90s as to who was the best during their time.

Joe Debrah was undoubtedly one of the best performers of the local game in the early and mid-parts of the 1990’s, due to his brilliant ball control skills and amazing goal scoring instincts.

But a knee injury in the late 90’s hindered his progress and subsequently moved to Goldfields.

Shamo Quaye on the other hand, was an incredible talent for Hearts of Oak, who despite emerging at a very young age carried an experienced football head.

Sadly, he died mysteriously in 1997.
Shamo Quaye’s death killed the intensity of the rivalry between himself and Joe Debrah.

However avid local football followers have from time to time reignited such discussions about who bettered the other on the pitch.

Speaking about this on Kessben FM, Afriki Joe revealed that in as much as Shamo Quaye was an excellent player, he believes he had more to his game than the Hearts playmaker.

“We were close, but not as close as I was with Joe Addo,” Debrah said.

“He (Shamo Quaye) had his qualities and I also had my qualities. His qualities were, he could score unexpected goals, I also had mine but I knew I was better than him he stated.

“But in football, if debates don’t emerge the game doesn’t become exciting…I knew I was better and Shamo himself was aware but he just couldn’t say it.

“I possessed all the qualities in the game, strength, and striking abilities. Shamo was a goal scorer, but I was that and more. I was more involved in the game than Shamo. He always used to lurk around the goal area. Everyone has his skillset and strength so that’s it,” he concluded.

Joe Debrah is currently in Germany.

VIDEO: Ghana goalkeeper Daniel Agyei opens up on how juju ruined his career

Former Ghana youth goalkeeper Daniel Agyei has narrated how a pastor revealed to him that he had been tied up spiritually to wreck his career.

There is a long-held suspicion that African players have been engaging in black magic to either enhance their careers or wreck a career of their fellow professionals.

In a chilled story narrated by Daniel Agyei, the former Liberty Professionals custodian disclosed how his career was wrecked by black magic but did not go further by naming the perpetrator.

“Only my family are aware of what I’m about to disclose to you. I hate to talk about it but I believe it’s time to reveal it so that the upcoming footballers will know how to deal with it when it happens to them,” Agyei told Jeffries Sintim Koree Chaskele on Television CK.

“Up till now I don’t believe it happened to me even though people were telling. There are pastor and fake ones out there but I listened to all that they told me. I’m alive today so whatever the enemy planned for me has gone down the drain, but it got to a time where I had a strong feeling that things were not moving as they should and I felt so bad but I thought it’s normal because in everything you do there’s a good and bad day until a pastor told me that the ordeal I was going through was the work of the devil.”

“I didn’t believe it at first because I know it’s part of life to go through bad patch. Even Christ who died to save our lives went through tribulation so even when people where telling me to pay attention to what I was going through, I know that when impediment comes your way, God is preparing you for another stage so when people were telling about my friend having a hand in my misfortune, I didn’t believe them because I knew God was preparing me for another stage. That’s my mantra since I started my career.”

“I went through so many challenges. When I came back from the 2010 World Cup things became very rough for me. My performance level in the league dropped drastically but I thought it was fatigue but people started telling me things which drew my mind unto what the pastor disclosed to me.”

“But I quite remember that the pitches we played on during the U20 World Cup in Egypt were heavily watered unlike the pitches we use in Ghana. In Ghana because the pitches were not watered when a ball bounces on it, you know very well that the ball is coming straight into your arms so it got me confused in the league which made me commit so many mistakes. I knew people were thinking that how can a World Cup goalkeeper be performing this poorly but I knew what I was dealing with.”

“The pastor revealed so many things to me which got into my head. He told me how I’d been tied up spiritually. He said some people were working to bring me down so that I wouldn’t be able to have a career abroad but I was so stubborn in dealing with it because I’m one person who believes in the spiritual realms so I was confident that nobody can harm me unless the person went through any of my family members but I know how my family are strong spiritually therefore nobody can penetrate to harm me.”

“So many pastors were telling me to be careful but I’m one person who doesn’t tell people my story, only my family members know about what I’m revealing to you now.”

The 30-year-old goalkeeper is currently in the books of Ethiopian Premier League club Sebeta City.

Agyei represented Ghana at U-20 level and won with the team both the 2009 African Youth Championship and the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

He was part of the Black Stars team that finished second to Egypt at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola and also a member of the squad that reached quarter final stage at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

He has won 5 caps for the Ghana Black Stars.

Emmanuel Sarkodie not scared of quality of midfielders at Kotoko

0

Asante Kotoko new signing Emmanuel Sarkodie is confident of earning a starting role in the team despite the ‘quality of midfielders in the team.’

The 23-year-old midfielder joined the Porcupine Warriors from Division One side Nkoranza Warriors in the second transfer window. He signed a three-year deal.

He says he has the right qualities to rock shoulders with the likes of Justice Blay, Mudasiru Salifu and Kwame Adom Frimpong for a place in the midfield.

“You cannot mention the names of the best midfielders in Ghana and leave out Senanu, Blay, Frimpong, and Mudasiru, but I believe in myself and the quality that I possess, so they do not scare me at all,” Sarkodie told Kotoko Express App

“They have their individual qualities and I also have mine. I have been working very hard throughout my career. I know the kind of preparations I am going through and have gone through. I believe that I can cope with the challenge and get some good number of game minutes.”

He indicated that he is not worried about the fact that he has not tasted Premier League action before.

According to Sarkodie, it will not have any effect on him.

“I have not played in the Premier League before but that can not slow down my progress in the division. I am much better than most of the players in the league. Kotoko would not have come for me if I was not.”

He has had stints with Cameroonian giants Coton Sport du Garoua.
