Women’s Premier League side Kumasi Sports Academy have appointed experienced trainer Prince ‘Sabuto’ Acheampong as Head Coach.

The former Asante Kotoko and King Faisal coach has penned a two-year renewal contract.

He replaces Charles Anokye Frimpong on the bench.

Sabuto has been tasked to maintain their status in the league and secure a top-four finish for the 2023/24 campaign.

The Physical Education tutor at Opoku Ware Senior High School has rich experience in the women game was formerly in-charge of Fabulous Ladies.

Kumasi Sports Academy made a winning start on Saturday when they beat Pearlpia Ladies 2-1 in the Northern Zone of the Women’s Premier League.

Asante Kotoko’s hopes of returning to their winning ways were dashed on Sunday as they were held to a frustrating draw by Bechem United at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors were keen to bounce back after their winning streak was halted the previous weekend, settling for a 1-1 draw with local rivals Nations FC, conceding a late penalty.

Kotoko got off to a promising start with forward Peter Acquah finding the net just nine minutes into the game. It was a well-deserved reward for their strong start, and many in the stadium believed they would build on their early lead.

Despite maintaining possession and dominance, Kotoko struggled to find the back of the net for a second time, allowing Bechem United to stay in the game.

In the second half, the away side, who had never won in Kumasi in a league game, seized their opportunity. Augustine Okrah, a former Kotoko forward, levelled the score in the 54th minute.

This goal injected confidence into the away side, and had they been more clinical, they might have secured their first away victory against Kotoko this season.

Kotoko remain unbeaten in their last five games but find themselves three points off the top spot following Sunday’s draw. With just eight points from a possible 21 this season, they are now five points adrift of the league leaders.

The game was marked by an emotional start as Kotoko paid tribute to two legends Joe Debrah and Robert Eshun, who both passed away this week. A minute of silence was held in their honour.

Legon Cities ended their three-match winless streak with a hard-fought narrow victory over Dreams FC at the El Wak Stadium on Sunday, October 29 2023.

The Royals were presented with an opportunity to take the lead on 17 minutes after Albert Yeboah was brought down in the penalty box. Kwame Boateng stepped up to take the resulting spot kick but it was saved by Solomon Agbasi.

Boateng made up for his miss by scoring on 33 minutes to give the Royals the lead. Dreams pushed for the equalizer before the break but the hosts held on to take their advantage into break.

With no goals after recess, Cities preserved their unbeaten run at home to record a vital win which would do a lot for their confidence.

Dreams will be disappointed they failed to make it two wins on the spin following their win over defending champions, Medeama last weekend.

Jonathan Sowah scored the decisive goa for Medeama in their 1-0 win over Samartex 1996 in the Western derby on Sunday.

Sowah scored from the spot kick three minutes into injury time in the first half to separate the two teams at the Akoon Community Park.

The Premier League champions went into the game with one change from their midweek success over Nations FC.

Striker Daniel Lomotey replaced Nana Kofi Babil in a prolonged two way attack involving star man Jonathan Sowah.

Jean Vital Ourega was brought down in the penalty box – allowing Sowah to step up and put the goalkeeper the wrong way for the only goal of the match.

Medeama started brightly and their high tempo approach put a nervy looking visitors  on the back foot with a series of early attacks.

And the team in Mauve and Yellow should have taken the lead inside the first five minutes when Fordjour Azaria and Theophilus Anobah linked up down the left flank.

The latter pulled the ball back into a dangerous area but Lomotey got his angles wrong and was disappointed to see his effort bend wide.

Samartex started to show as more of an attacking force in the second half but the defensive pair of Nurudeen Abdulai and Kofi Asmah were equal to the task in thwarting the onslaught.

This is the second successive win for the Premier League champions following their 1-0 success over Nations FC on Wednesday.

They take the positive energy to the capital where they battle giants Hearts of Oak in an epic match on Wednesday November 1, 2023.

Samartex return to the Nsenkyire stadium to face Legon Cities – who managed a 1-0 success over Dreams FC at the El-Wak Stadium.

Asante Kotoko’s coach, Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum has named the Starting XI to face Bechem United this afternoon at the Baba Yara Stadium.

2023/24 BetPawa Premier has entered week 7 where three matches have already been played, Friday and Saturday respectively. The other five games will be displayed in various Venus but all eyes will be on the Baba Yara Stadium.

Asante Kotoko is unbeaten in their last four games with two wins and two draws with their last game against Aduana FC ending 1-0  with Kalo Ouattara scoring the only goal in the match.

The Hunters seem to have found their rhythm in recent weeks after recovering from a poor start to the season.

Bechem United are winless in their first three away games with a 2-0 loss to Nsoatreman, a 4-1 loss to FC Samartex and a 1-1 draw at the El- Wak Stadium against Legon Cities.

The Porcupines have dominated their last three meetings at home against Bechem United with three straight wins in 2020/21 – 4-0 at home, a 2-0 victory in the 2021/22 season and a 1-0 win in the 20222/23 season.

Asante Kotoko have scored 7 goals against Bechem United at home with the away aside yet to score in Kumasi in their last three matches in Kumasi.

Coach Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side is unbeaten in their last three games with two wins and a draw with the likes of Kalo Ouattara, Steven Mukwala Desse, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, Andrews Ntim Manu, Sherif Mohammed, Henry Ansu all will start for the Porcupines.
