Edward Ansah is not a good coach – Patrick Antwi

0

Former Liberty Professionals goalkeeper, Patrick Antwi says Ex-Ghana goalkeeper Edward Ansah is not a good coach because his attitude forced him out of Black Stars.

According to him, Ansah – who was goalkeeper’s trainer – bashed him after a hauler against Mexico in 2008, instead of backing him to recover since it was his first major Black Stars game.

Mexico beat Ghana 2-1 in the friendly fixture which was held at Craven Cottage Stadium in England. The Black Stars leading by a 55th minute Michael Essien goal were pegged back by the Mexicans when Antwi failed to clear Essien’s back pass allowing Carlos Salcido to score the equaliser in the 77th minute before Pardo secured the match winner from a spot kick with four minutes left of play.

Ex-Ghana goalkeeper, Edward Ansah

Antwi indicated that although the players consoled him after the mistake, Edward Ansah, who was then goalkeeper’s trainer blasted him instead of assisting him correct his flaws.

“After that friendly game against Mexico in England in 2008, I didn’t get a call-up to Black Stars again,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“I committed a blunder in that preparatory game and that day I had issues with Edward Ansah. I can tell you, he is not a professional coach at all.

“Instead of pointing out and helping me overcome the mistake I committed which paved way for Mexico to equalize, he rather went hard st me. He blamed me for the defeat because of the error. He was supposed to help me, but he chose otherwise.

“It was coach Claude Le Roy who backed me,” he added.

However, after the game, then coach of the Black Stars, Claude Le Roy sprung to the defence of the young goalie after replacing Richard Kingston in the second half

Le Roy said:”We were on top when Michael scored the first goal, then there was the stupid mistake on our behalf that let Mexico into the game.

“It’s difficult to criticise a young keeper. We must help him but it was a huge mistake. On this type of pitch it can happen.

“He could not taken any risk with the back pass from Michael,” said the Ghana coach in a post match interview.

“It’s a problem of confidence – and it’s so different for a goalkeeper. If a striker misses an opportunity to score, everybody forgets, but when a goalkeeper makes a mistake, it’s terrible for him.

“He made a bad choice – on this kind of pitch it’s best not to take a risk and try to control the ball. But it happens and now we have to try to help him to recover his confidence.”

Patrick Antwi also featured for Prestea Mine Stars and Ebusua Dwarfs.

Interesting analysis on the Death of the Pure 10 and the Evolution of the Advanced 8. Reason behind the unsuccessful spells of James and Coutinho at Bayern

0

In the early to late 2000s, we used to play with an attacking midfielder. Mehmet Scholl was our key player in the attacking midfield. He played here from 1992 to 2007 and was a key player in our CL Campaigns in 1999 and 2001.

In par with Bayern, many teams in Europe adapted an attacking midfielder into their team during 2000s.
Eg:

  1. Kaka (AC Milan) in the famous Christmas tree formation.
Milan played several Champion league finals during his prime.
  2. Sneijder (Inter and Netherland) was a key player in their champions league victory and domination in the league.
  3. Özil (Germany and Real Madrid) was a key player for Löw and Mourinho as an attacking midfielder who was clutch in a lot of games during his prime.

But in late 2000s this trend started to change with the influence of Pep’s Barcelona. It affected every top team. And many managers started trying the 4-3-3. In this time Louis Van Gaal as the Bayern coach introduced Thomas Müller as an attacking midfielder.

This helped Bayern to keep the 4-2-3-1 formation. Müller was not a typical number 10. But he could do most of the things a number 10 can do. Most importantly, he is more physical and does defensive duties far better than a typical number 10.

So in 2011-2013 Bayern were dominant with 4-2-3-1 formation using Müller in the number 10 position, outclassing many top teams.

As time passed we had several managers trying the 4-3-3. Pep, Carlo and Jupp tried the 4-3-3 but we couldn’t get significant results.

With the arrival of Kovac, Bayern tried the 4-2-3-1 again, but Müller was not used as a number 10. James was playing the number 10 in a era where the game became quicker and more physical and the team couldn’t afford any players to be lacking in defense.

Then came Coutinho. Kovač started playing Coutinho as a number 10 and same thing happened. In UCL games Kovač defended with the 4-4-2 formation mainly because Coutinho’s non-existent defensive contribution. This invariably caused imbalance in attack and defense. And Kovač got fired.

James and Coutinho were registered as failed experiments in Bayern. Not entirely because of them. They are amazing players with great attacking qualities. Unfortunately the game evolved around them and creative number 10 was outdated.

This is the perfect explanation why Flick has introduced Müller back to the CAM position. What we see now is the vintage Müller performance we saw in 2011-2013 era. Main reason for the balance between our attack and defense.

What is the future of the number 10 position? Unpredictable, to say the least.

For Bayern we must find a permanent solution for Müller or we must change our style of play completely.

Running Ghana FA more difficult than I envisaged – Kurt Okraku

1

Image via footy-ghana.com

The President of the Ghana Football Association Kurt ES Okraku has disclosed that leading the Association is more challenging and difficult than he initially envisaged despite being in the game for long.

Kurt Okraku was elected FA boss on October 25 and has so far beenmaking changes as he promised during the election campaign.

Seven months after taking charge, the former Dreams FC CEO has admitted that it has been a challenging task.

When asked if he’s regretted being in charge Kurt Okraku replied Daniel Oduro on GhanaWeb’s Sports Check, “Oh not at all”.

“But I will be the first to admit that from outside the premises of the GFA, from outside the seat; I presumed that there are challenges,”

“But since October 25 and the weeks after that, I have come to appreciate that the difficulties are much more difficult than I thought” he noted.

“But that is where I derive my motivation from. Yes, it is difficult, it is challenging but I am in it. So I need to work extremely hard” he concluded.
