Former Ashant Gold Chief Executive Officer Frederick Acheampong has debunked claims that he is close to landing Asante Kotoko vacant CEO job.

The Porcupine Warriors are in search of a new Chief for the day-to-day activities of the club after the George Amoakoh led management team was dissolved a few weeks ago.

Phar Rangers Bankroller Nana Yaw Amponsah, who has been interviewed for the post is reportedly likely to miss out after he was accused of leaking information by the special aide to Kofi Badu, Kwame Aboagye Mensah.

Reports were rife earlier this week that thr Ghana Football Association Executive Council member has been contacted by the hierarchy of the Reds .

However, the Kessben FM Sports Analyst has disclosed that he has been reached by any member of the board.

“Asante Kotoko job is one of the biggest in the world,what I know is that Kotoko is big and to be linked to the big job,it’s massive but no one has called me from Kotoko concerning this job, it’s big,” Frederick Acheampong told Oyerepa FM concerning his links to Kotoko CEO Job.

It would be recalled that Frederick Acheampong expressed interest in taking up the position if he is contacted.

Chief Executive Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak Frederick Moore says the decision by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association to cancel the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League is a no-brainer.

Speaking to Juliet Bawuah on News 360 on TV3, Moore said given everything happening around Covid-19, it was the most practical decision to take, adding the club has no issue with the outcome.

“We are into football and would have preferred playing football but if the EXCO makes that decision that it’s been cancelled, we respect that.

“With everything that is going on, it is probably the best decision.”

Touching on the impact of the cancellation, he said all clubs will bear the brunt one way or the other but Hearts’ sheer size means they have a huge task to surmount.

“Because we are bigger, the impact is felt much more larger than a smaller club. We have been planning and managing our affairs within a revised budget we set for ourselves. We’ve got other things we are looking at doing.”

The new normal for Ghana Premier League clubs, Moore said calls for improvisation and keeping an eye on expenditure, an exercise he says Hearts have been working on lately.

“We are constantly reviewing our expenditure. It doesn’t matter how big your revenue is, if your expenditure is bigger than your revenue, you’ve got a problem. At this point when we are not getting a third of our money from gate proceeds, our job is to make sure we can tap into other revenue sources, and that is why we’ve been working with our strategic partners.”

In a meeting held Tuesday, June 30, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association cancelled the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season.

Despite incessant pressure in the lead-up to the decision, the GFA maintained that it was only going to communicate its resolution on the last day of the month.

The cancellation now paves way for clubs to plan ahead of the next one.

The Ghana Football Association has been coerced to cancel the Football season because of covid 19.

On the other hand the government is encouraging us as citizens to register and vote on December 7th, following safety protocols, this is terrible.

People are walking freely, patronizing markets, going to church and mosque to pray for one hour but domestic based footballers cannot continue the football season because of covid 19?

How do domestic based footballers survive especially when most Ghana Premier league clubs cannot raise monies to pay their players when there is no league in session?

Are they thinking about the over 84,000 domestic based footballers who are the major stakeholders of Ghana League and it effects to their living standards?

How do domestic based footballers in Ghana survive to take care of themselves and their families at this time before the league resumes again ?

Can’t the league continue with clubs following the safety protocols before, during and after games for the safety of players and the team as a whole?

This one I cannot breathe, domestic based footballers lives matter. I am really sad…

Experienced Aduana Stars forward Yahaya Mohammed has questioned the preparedness of Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold to represent Ghana in Africa next season.

Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold were given the green light to represent Ghana in CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively after the 2019-20 Ghana Premier League was completely annulled by the Ghana Football Association after an Executive Council meeting held Tuesday evening.

But Yahaya Mohammed hass rejected the decision by tipping Aduana Stars and Medeama SC for the slots.

“I don’t have a problem with the 2 clubs that have been selected to represent Ghana in the Champions league and Confederation Cup. However, are these two clubs ready to go and lift the flag of Ghana high?” He quizzed.

“In fact at the moment no GPL club is ready for Africa. The FA would have to select the top 18 players in the GPL to represent Ghana in those competitions” he suggested on Angel 102.9FM.

He proferred another alternative to ensure Ghana’s reps perform well on the continent.

“Based on the preparation of clubs Aduana and Medeama should have the nod to represent Ghana. Those teams are very well prepared” he ended.

Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association has disclosed that the truncated 2019-20 football season has cost the football governing body a whooping $2.2 million.

The GFA, after a marathon meeting on Tuesday cancelled the season due to the novel COVID-19 pandemic which has rocked the world. All football activities are on hold at all levels.

Efforts by the Association to ensure the resumption of football hit the rock as govCOVID-19 in a recent update extended the ban on social gatherings until July 31, 2020.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Angel 102.9FM, Asante Twum explained that it is a big blow to the association, having invested hugely in the league in a bid to ‘Bring back the love’ all football enthusiasts envisaged for.

“MTN made 1.1 million Ghana Cedis investment so far. 800,000 cedis in cash and 300,000 cedis in products. StarTimes would have invested a little in excess of 1 million Ghana cedis of which they have paid some. The projections from NASCO for their products is estimated at 1.1m,”

“The football association spent at least 6,000 Ghana Cedis on every match day. This money went into paying referees, cameramen and Venue Media Officers.”

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has taken a decision to cancel the 2019/2020 football season following a marathon meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.

Football activities in the West African country have been frozen since mid-March due to outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government of Ghana placed a ban on social gatherings which forced the Ghana FA to suspend its programmes. The hopes of the Association was dashed as President of the republic of Ghana – Nana Akuffo Addo extended the ban on social gatherings and border closure to July 31, 2020.

This decision was taken by the ruling government to reduce the import of the deadly virus into the county or to curb the horizontal spread of the novel COVID-19 disease.

Since then the GFA have tried to ensure that football resumes but to no avail despite holding talks with the government’s response team on the COVID-19.

The Ghanaian top-flight, Division One League and the Women’s Premier League have all been cancelled.

The Ghanaian top-flight was in week 15 before it was halted.

Aduana Stars stalwart defender, Caleb Amankwaa has disclosed that there was incessant pressure on him to join Asante Kotoko prior to signing for the Dormaa-based club.

Amankwaa joined the 2009 Ghana Premier League Champions in 2018 from Sogakope-based outfit WAFA in a three-year deal.

The Black Meteors defender was heavily linked with a move to the Porcupine Warriors after an impressive season with the Academy Lads but he opted for Aduana Stars.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Sikka FM, Amankwaa revealed Aduana Stars’ participation in Africa inspired him to join the side although he was contacted by Kotoko.

“There was pressure on me to join Asante Kotoko,” Caleb Amankwaa

“My decision to play for
Aduana Stars was inspired by their participation in Africa.”

Last year, it was reported that Asante Kotoko expressed interest in acquiring the services of Caleb Amankwaa.

He is one of the versatile defenders in the Ghanaian top-flight who can play as a right-back and center-back positions.

He was an integral member of the Fire Boys be ore the 2018 Ghana Premier League season was truncated after the premiering of the investigative documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas on corruption in Ghana football.
