Accra Hearts of Oak turned the corner against Medeama SC in midweek to get their campaign back on track following a near fatal start to the season.

The former League champions who had gone four games without a win scored three first half goals to beat the League champions 3-1 at the Accra Sports stadium – handing them their second win of the season and their first at home since September 24 when they beat Nsoatteman FC 1-0.

The Phobians are winless in three away games – after losing to Real Tamale United (1-0) and Bofoakwa Tano (1-0) with the other game against Bibiani Gold Stars ending in a draw (1-1). Their last visit to Tamale ended in disappointment as they fell 1-0 to Real Tamale United on Matchday One.

The Phobians will travel up-north to play Karela United Football Club at the Aliu Mahama stadium on Saturday. Goals have been hard to come by – having scored 5 goals and conceded four in seven League games but aims to build on the performance against Medeama SC in midweek.

Martin Koopman and his team came under immense pressure after the draw against FC Samartex but the win over Medeama SC and the vital point against Bibiani Gold Stars seem to have calm nerves boosting their confidence ahead of the clash in Tamale.

Karela United have yet to hit the ground running since their switch from Aiyinase to Tamale for the 2023/24 season – they have won only once at the Aliu Mahama stadium. Hearts of Oak is on their way to Tamale to face Karela United on Saturday 4th Nov 2023 at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

Accra Hearts of Oak beat the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League Champions, Medeama SC 3-1 last Wednesday at the Accra sports stadium during Week Eight of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League fixture.

The Phobians had gone four games without a win but the team showed class on Wednesday by beating Medeama SC 3-1.

The Phobians are hoping to grab another three points on Saturday. They have now moved to the 13th position with nine points with one outstanding match.

The game will be played at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium at 15:00GMT on Saturday.

Asante Kotoko’s coach, Dr. Prosper Ogum, is receiving encouragement and support from Nsoatreman FC coach Maxwell Konadu as the team struggles with uneven results.

Konadu thinks Ogum is doing a great job and deserves the support of the supporters despite the recent setbacks.

Asante Kotoko’s winless run now stands at three games as they lost 1-0 against Nsoatreman, their second defeat.

With just 10 points from eight games, the club has performed below expectations, making the supporters worried.

But Konadu, a former Kotoko coach himself, thinks Ogum’s strategy has potential.

After taking over as manager of Kotoko for the first time, Ogum won the Ghana Premier League, but since his return, the team’s play hasn’t always been cohesive.

Ogum believes the team is a relatively young team with little elite experience, he has often emphasized the need for patience and the transition, and Konadu expresses similar feelings.

“Prosper Ogum is doing a good job, in fact, he is doing his best for the club and will only need the support, Konadu stated. “This is a new team; players are fighting for places, so sometimes things do not go as expected, but you can clearly see the team needs time to get the result they want.”

Konadu appealed to the fans to be patient, believing that, with time, the team would overcome their struggles and achieve success.

“I will urge the fans to exercise patience and I believe with time things will be fine. At the moment, they are struggling but we have a long way to go after just eight games, so the fans should be patient and I think the team will gel together and do well, ” he added.

Ogum’s side will be hoping to end their winless run this weekend at home against Dreams FC.

Nsoatreman FC eventually secured their first-ever topflight victory over Asante Kotoko on their fourth try after a close 1-0 victory on match day 8 of the Ghana Premier League on Thursday afternoon.

Slippery attacker Stephen Diyou grabbed the game’s only goal in the 39th minute.

Augustine Agyapong and Richmond Lamptey were replaced by Kyei Dwamena and 16-year-old Richmond Opoku, respectively, in Coach Ogum’s only two lineup changes.

Conversely, Maxwell Konadu selected a formidable starting eleven that included Steven Diyou, Philip Ofori, Adu Meider, Abdul Manaf Umar, and others.

Both teams started the game poorly and needed some time to get into a very good rhythm.

The first half was open, with Nsoatreman FC dominating the game just a little bit as Stephen Diyou gave them the lead, tapping in from Manaf’s shot in the box.
