Visually impaired final year student at the University of Ghana, Emmanuel Asiedu has shown that indeed, football is for everyone.

Asiedu, in an interview with Youtube channel, Andydotcom revealed that he is a staunch fan of Asante Kotoko and narrated some past matches of the Porcupines, notably the 2005 CAF Confederation Cup final against Hearts of Oak.

According to Asiedu, he was not born blind, he revealed that, a punch in the eye during his childhood days by a friend resulted in his vision being deteriorated.

The board of directors for Vine Christian High School, Accra, has awarded the wonder kid, Dominic Fobih, a full scholarship to continue his education.

Principal of the East Legon-based school, Joshua Tsatro Mordy, said that “we want to give him the best, we want to put him in a system that can make him develop his talent so that such brilliant ‘chaps’ won’t be lost.”

 Speaking Thursday on Angel FM’s morning show, ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ’, the principal told host Captain Smart that, “once we determine the class level he [Dominic Fobih] can fairly be in, based on our structure, the offer takes off from there.”

Mr. Mordy expressed concerns that talented children are being lost due to the inability of the Ghanaian educational system to cater for such individuals.According to him, learning is changing hence, the need to adopt an educational research approach that can be practically used to enhance the capabilities of children.

Mr. Mordy further said that Dominic’s knowledge and fluency in the local language, Twi, is enough to build a structure for him to fit into the English Language.Joshua Tsatro Mordy

He revealed that the wonder kid, Dominic, falls under a category of ‘audio and visual learners’; and their school system [Vine Christian High] is modelled around the knowledge-led content which can accommodate him.

He stated that there are children like Dominic whose style and talent have been killed due to the system they find themselves in.

“Our [Ghanaian] school system is designed in such a way that attention is not being paid to the gifts of children,” he reiterated.

Little Fobih who hails from Kwamoabeng in the Central Region, will be 10 years in December. He was named after former Health Minister under President John Kuffuor’s regime, Professor Dominic Forbih, who was MP of the constituency where Dominic was born.

He wants to be a Sports Journalist in future.According to him, his love for sports started in 2014 (when he was six years), during the World Cup hosted by Brazil.

He walks several miles from Kwamoabeng to the next village just to watch DSTV matches. He Carries a book that contains tactics, names of stadia, coaches, footballers etc.

He revealed that he had to sleep at the DSTV Centre when the matches are played in the night because it will be too late to walk the thickness of the night back to Kwamoabeng.

However, President and Founder or Angel Group, Dr Kwaku Oteng, was impressed by Dominic’s intellect and decided to offer him a full scholarship to pursue education to a level that he can.

Dr Oteng also wants Dominic moved to Accra as soon as possible. While at it, he will also be under-studying the Sports team at Angel Broadcasting Network.

Hearts Of Oak Board Member Frank Nelson has stated emphatically that the club will not force any player to renew his contract and play for the team amid reports of mass departures.

Reports in the local media suggest the Phobians are finding it difficult to renew the contracts of some of the players whose contracts have expired. The reports further stated that about eight players are on their way out of the club.

Earlier this week, reports suggested that star striker Joseph Esso has rejected a $1,000 monthly salary deal with the club.

But speaking to Kumasi-based Sikka FM, Frank Nelson revealed no contract renewal talks are underway as reported and that the club will only work with players who are committed.

“There has been no information on the contract expiration and renewal of the certain players”, the board member told Sikka FM.

He continued, “If a player decides not to play for hearts, it won’t be a big deal. No player will be forced to play for hearts. There is freedom of movement. We can only engage them in contract talks.

“We are appealing to our supporters to have trust in the board. The project is progressing very well.”

Hearts Of Oak have mot been able to win any major trophy since winning the league in 2009. They will however, be looking forward to augment their squad when Ghana’s new season gets underway.

The 2020-21 Ghana Premier League is tentatively set to commence second week of October based on government’s directive.
