Former Asante Kotoko captain, Amos Frimpong has backed the club’s decision to participate in CAF inter-club competitions next season.

The Ghana Football Association picked the Porcupine Warriors to represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League next season after the 2019/20 season was truncated due to the Coronavirus.

Several football personalities including coaches and ex-players have advised the hierarchy of the club to reject the opportunity to play in Africa citing lack of adequate time for preparations.

However, Frimpong who captained the club in the 2018/19 Africa campaign insists it would be a good decision for the club to play in Africa.

According to him, it could help players to get offers from foreign policy clubs which Kotoko can get a huge sum of money from it.

“Such decisions are normally taken by the board of directors, management and technical term. Using coach CK Akonnor’s era where we were not active, the management took a bold decision for us to represent Ghana. We even exceeded our target by qualifying for the group stage, ” he told Hello FM.

“We seem to have the same situation at the moment so if the leadership assesses the strength of the team and decide to play in Africa, I think it is in the right direction.

“When we play in Africa, it raises the value of the players where some even get better offers for the club to earn something.

“So if the board decides to allow the team to take the opportunity, it is good.”

Amos Frimpong is currently in Ghana after completing his contract with AS Kaloum of Guinea.

After government making its intentions clear to reconstruct the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah has today, Thursday, September 4, 2030, cut the sod for the commencement of the project.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah MP for Atwima Nwabiagya in the Ashanti Region, on behalf of Present Akufo-Addo, performed a groundbreaking ceremony to start the reconstruction of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium.

The Nkawkaw Stadium, which is the home ground of Division Two side Okwahu United was one of the most popular facilities in the country but had been abandoned for it to deteriorate for almost 30 years.

H.E. Akufo-Addo has always reiterated his desire to put in place sports infrastructure for the development of sporting events across the country.

At the moment, 10 multi-purpose Youth and Sports Centres of Excellence are being constructed with some nearing completion.

This forms part of Government’s broader programme to develop sports infrastructure across the country. This stadium reconstruction, funded by the Middle Belt Development Authority from their one-constituency-one million dollars budget amounts to the tune of 27 Million Ghana Cedis.

After completion, Nkawkaw Sports Stadium will have FIFA standard pitch, Olympic standard 8-lanes tracks, multipurpose court, 10,000 spectator seats and hostel facilities.

In attendance were the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Middle Belt Development Authority, Hon. Joe Danquah and his Deputy, Madam Joyce Opoku Boateng, Eastern Regional Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, Hon Eric Kwakye Darfour, Municipal Chief Executive of Nkawkaw, Hon. Yaw Owusu Addo, MD for Ghana Publishing Board, Hon David Asante, His Royal Highness Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, CEO of Green Grass Technology, and Mr Frank Boahen.

Aduana Stars head coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin has advised Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold SC to reject the opportunity to represent Ghana in Africa in the upcoming season.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) settled on the two clubs as Ghana’s representatives for Caf inter-club competitions next season. The Ghana FA selected Kotoko for Champions League and Ashgold for Confederation Cup after an ExCo meeting.

While Ashgold has agreed to play, Kotoko is yet to respond to the GFA.

However, the former U-17 trainer believes there is little time for the teams to prepare adequately looking at the CAF calendar.

“In my candid opinion, there shouldn’t be any rep for Ghana in any CAF inter-club competition this year looking at the happenings in our games for the past years, ” he told Kumasi-based Pure FM.

Ghana has up to September 11 to confirm the participation of its two representatives.

Asante Kotoko has appointed young and energetic David Obeng Nysrko as the club’s new Brand and Marketing Manager pending an official announcement.

footy.ghpush.com/ sources indicate that the former Bofoakwa Tano General Manager's name was among individuals whose identity were revealed to the Kotoko board by the Chief Executive Officer, Nana Yaw Amponsah for approval on Thursday.

He has therefore been approved to head the Marketing department of the Porcupine Warriors in the yet-to-be-announced management team.

It would be recalled that Obeng Nyarko resigned from his position as General Manager of the Division One League club last month.

Again, he resigned from his roles as a Member of the Division One League Board of the Ghana Football Association, Member of the Division One League Management Committee of the Ghana FA, and the head of the communications directorate of the Bono Ahafo Regional Football Association.

The 28-year-old did a great job for Bofoakwa Tano with regards to the club’s branding and marketing.

Our sources indicate he has started working on the Asante Kotoko’s social media handles.

The Ghanaian giants are expected to name the management team very soon.
