Amankwaah Mireku

The Hearts of Oak board of directors have decided to draft two of their legends into the club’s technical team for the 2020/21 season, according to Oyerepa FM.

Ghana Premier League heavyweights Accra Hearts of Oak are set to announce the appointment of Amankwah Mireku and Lawrence Adjah-Tetteh as assistant coaches for the senior team. 

According to Oyerepa FM, the newly-appointed head coach, Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto has asked the club’s board of directors to appoint the duo as his deputies. Hearts of Oak have been without an assistant coach and a head coach since the sacking of Kim Grant in December last year. 

Auroras FC (Hearts of Oak U20 side) head coach, Edward Nii Odoom was reassigned to become a stop-gap coach Odoom guided the one-time CAF Champions League winners during the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season which was cancelled due to Coronavirus pandemic.

 Adjah Tetteh joined the Phobians from Dawu Youngsters and instantly became one of the first names to appear on Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio’s team sheet.  He was an integral member of the Hearts team that won the CAF Champions League in 2000 and was very instrumental in the 2004 CAF Confederations Cup triumph 

 Mireku joined the Phobians from Okwahu United in 1997/1998 season. Earning his first start for the club under the late Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie and J. E. Sarpong, he went on to feature frequently in his first full season at the club, during which the Phobians won the league title.

 After helping guide Hearts of Oak to annex the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club’s history, he was selected to be part of the Black Stars team that played Nigeria in World Cup qualifier in 2001. 

 He would go-ahead to record 15 appearances for the Black Stars to crown a successful career. Mireku and success are bedfellows. Success rained down on him. In his ten-year stay with the Accra club, he laid claim to seven league titles, two FA Cups and the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup hauls is worthy enough of discussion among the top 20 players of the last two decades.

Asante Kotoko drew 2-2 with lower-tier side Akosombo Krystal Palace in their second pre-season game at the team’s training camp in Koforidua.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko were held to a 2-2 draw by lower-tier side Akosombo Krystal Palace in their second pre-season game at the team’s training camp in Koforidua.

Midfielder Kwame Adom Frimpong and striker Naby Keita scored for the Reds to lead 2-0 before their opponent equalised.

Coach Maxwell Konadu opted for consistency by fielding Emmanuel Keyekeh, Adom Frimpong, Emmanuel Gyamfi and Augustine Okrah in midfield behind strikers, Naby Keita and new arrival Evans Adomako Wiredu.

Kotoko opened the scoring in the 5th minute when Imoro Ibrahim produced a great kick from the corner spot which found Kwame Adom Frimpong who headed home from the six-yard box.

Guinean-import Naby Keita made it 2-0 on the 27th minute when he beautifully scored from the spot, sending the Palace’s goalkeeper the wrong way.

With 15 minutes to end the first half, Krystal Palace reduced the deficit when Emmanuel Keyekeh’s pass inside the centre circle was intercepted by a Krystal Palace player which thwarted Kotoko’s attack.

A Krystal Palace attacker spotted goalkeeper Kwame Baah off his line and quickly produced a long lobby cross into the yawning net beyond the reach of stretching Baah.

The half ended 2-1!

After recess, Kotoko improved their game but could not find the back of the net.

Kotoko came close scoring in the 86th minute but a great free-kick from Godfred Asiamah close to the corner flank was saved by the goalkeeper.

However, Krystal Palace snatched the equaliser late in injury time to secure a 2-2 draw.

The Porcupine Warriors thrashed Division Two side Odweanoma FC 3-0 in their first pre-season game.

Bofoakwa Tano board chairman and former member of the Black Stars management committee, Yaw Boateng Gyan, has alleged that young defender Evans Andrew Apau who recently signed a three-year contract with Asante Kotoko has been fictitiously dropped from the Ghana U-20 camp for refusing to sign for Dreams FC which was previously owned by Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku.

The former NDC National Organiser claims the youngster was being pursued by several clubs including Dreams FC but his club Bofoakwa Tano decided to sell him to Kotoko.

In an interview with Accra-based Angel FM, Gyan revealed that a management member of the U20 team called the player to issue a threat that if the player doesn’t sign for Dreams FC, he will lose his place in the national team and the threat has indeed become a reality after the player joined Kotoko.

He further claim that the conversation between the player and the management member will be traced and the tape presented as evidence to the GFA soon.
