Former Hearts of Oak defender, Christopher Bonney, has described Felix Annan as the best goalkeeper at Asante Kotoko.

Annan, 25, has been axed to the been following Maxwell Konadu’s arrival at the club.

The former WAFA shot-stopper kept the post four times with Konadu settling on Kwame Baah as his first goalkeeper last season.

The young enterprising has been urged to quit the Porcupine Warrior ahead of the new football season after acquiring Black Stars goalkeeper, Razak Abalora’s service.

However, Bonney, who played for Kotoko believes all goalkeepers at the club national assets, Felix is the best among them and no one can dispute that fact.

“I have heard people expressing worries about my former club keeping three national goalkeepers but I don’t think it is a problem at all because this is not the first time Kotoko has signed three goalkeepers who are actively involved in their various national teams,” he told Accra Onua FM.

“During my time at Kotoko the late Soulama was the Number One goalkeeper for Burkina Faso while Amoako and Addo were also Local Black Stars keepers so I don’t see anything wrong with the team having three national goalkeepers,” he added.

The development at the club has affected Annan”s chances at the Black Stars after he was snubbed by CK Akonnor in March due to lack of playing time.

Kotoko will open their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season with a home game against Techiman Eleven Wonders.

The Porcupine Warriors will also represent the country in this year’s Caf Champions League.

The Miners preparations ahead of the new season has been dealt a major blow as robbers stormed their stadium to steal several valuables

Armed robbers have raided the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi, making away cables which provide electricity to the floodlights worth several thousands of Ghana cedis.

According to a video sighted by AshesGyamera and produced by Dunkwa TV on Thursday, the robbers dug and traced the cables that led to the control room from a nearby station and dismantled them before making their way out without being spotted.

It is unclear as at now the other items the robbers took along during their operations at the stadium since the club is yet to bring out an official release.

However, reports gathered suggest that an official complaint has been lodged at the Obuasi Municipal Police Station.

The current situation means that Ashanti Gold cannot play their home games, especially in the Caf Confederation Cup beyond 18h00 GMT since there will be no floodlights to improve visibility on the field as well as protect lives and properties.

The box-to-box midfielder has confirmed his readiness to join the Porcupine Warriors few days after terminating his contract with the Tunisian club

Former Ashanti Gold midfielder James Akaminko has admitted his readiness to sign for Asante Kotoko two weeks to the start of the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season.

The 25-year-old, who sealed a two-year deal with Tunisian club US Tataouine in September as a free agent, has returned to Ghana only a month later after mutually terminating the deal and believes he can realise his dreams with Kotoko.

The Porcupine Warriors have already signed ten players with the aim of winning the Premier League and reaching the group stage of Caf Champions League.

“I’m ready to join Asante Kotoko ahead of the new season only if they need my services and make an official bid,” Akaminko told Sikka FM.

“Kotoko is a big club with lots of opportunities which every player can build his career on. Therefore, I’m ever ready,” he added.

Akaminko also shed light on why his move to Tunisian side was terminated after only a month in the North African country.

“I was asked to do another trials which my agent and I declined,” he said.

“Many clubs were interested in me but the club prevented them from getting access to me.

“I’m a full package. I’m all in one. No team can get rid of me just like that. I do everything with passion, I don’t want to lose,” he added.

Akaminko was an integral part of the Ashanti Gold squad that won the Tier Two competition in 2019.

It has been three years since Soulama Abdoulaye left us. The morose news of his demise reached us on the eve of our FA CUP game with his ex club Kumasi Asante Kotoko in 2017.

Months before we had heard of his plight but there was not much we could do to avert the Qadr Allah had decreed for our brother.

When Soulama came to sign his Hearts deal, I was the only person who’s not happy with his acquisition. I had argued that if we wanted to go for an experienced keeper, we should have gone for an ex Phobian; but Soulama, on the other hand, had been a sworn-enemy of our club for all the years he had spent at Kotoko.

I was naive. And I was proven wrong within a short time. He had played for Kotoko but he’s not born for them. He’s a professional player. When he got to Hearts, he did not take any potshots at Kotoko; he did not insult anybody from their camp. That’s the first sign of maturity. He left Kotoko unceremoniously and unhappily too, but he came not bearing any grudge.

Today, when one player moves to the opposite direction, as part of their initiation, they are given free radio time to take digs at the hands that used to feed them. I digress.

Anyway, Soulama knew he had a lot against him because of his affiliation with his former club, but he showed he’s a true professional. And within a short time had won not just the confidence of his colleagues but the entire Hearts family. He mentored Seidu Mutawakil and always came to the defense of the young goalie whenever he committed a blunder.

Soulama always said a keeper is only remembered for the goal(s) he let in not for the ones he prevented. And as if presaging his end at the club, it happened to him in the end. Today, he’s remembered for that own goal against Kotoko in Accra.

But for me, it’s way more than that. He had saved Hearts so many times that I could not remember. He had saved that decisive penalty against AS POLICE in Benin in the CAFCC. When we had a goalkeeping crisis, it’s him who stepped UP to restore the defense. When we nearly got relegated, he’s amongst a handful of players whose contribution came to the fore.

Continue to Rest In Peace, Soulama. Gone, but certainly not forgotten.
