Former Kotoko management member blasts club for sacking Coach Maxwell Konadu

Former Asante Kotoko management member Ali Maradona is disappointed in the club’s Management Team for sacking head coach of the side, Maxwell Konadu on Friday morning.

Konadu was sacked by the Porcupine Warriors a day after the club suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Great Olympics – their first defeat of the season.

The Ghanaian giants, after five games played in the season so far, have won one, drawn three and lost one.

Ali Maradona believes that the hierarchy of the club should have given Konadu at least 7 games.

“It’s too early to sack Maxwell Konadu, he should be given at least 7 to 8 matches. I don’t also want to believe that he’s being victimized especially because current management didn’t appoint him. I don’t support this decision, ” he told Oyerepa FM.

Assistant trainer, Johnson Smith has been tasked to lead the team until a new coach is appointed.

This will be the second time Coach Johnson Smith will be holding the fort temporarily at Asante Kotoko after the dismissal of a head coach. The first time was in 2009 when Paa Kwesi Fabin was sacked after a poor run.

The management of the Porcupine Warriors have announced the departure of their head coach following their poor output in the ongoing season.

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have terminated their contract with Coach Maxwell Konadu with an immediate effect. The decision of his sacking comes following their shocking 1-0 home loss to Great Olympics on Thursday.

 The club’s official statement reads “Management of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club wishes to inform the general public that it has decided to part ways with Coach Maxwell Konadu as its Head Coach with immediate effect.” Coach Johnson Smith has been appointed to lead the team in the interim.

Ashantigold hauled before GFA Disciplinary Committee

Ashantigold have been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for allegedly flouting the approved GFA Matchday Covid-19 Protocols.

The Premier League club failed to ensure that only the required number of persons permitted were at their home match against King Faisal FC.

During their Ghana Premier Day 1 outstanding match against King Faisal on Wednesday December 16, the men stationed at the gate of the Len Clay Stadium took money from football fans and allowed them inside the stadium.

The Club therefore failed to implement fully and strictly comply with the COVID-19 protocols on the number of persons allowed per match, a duty that the trained Club Safety and Security Officer must perform.

The Club thus defied directives to play the match behind closed doors without spectators by allowing spectators to the stadium for the match.

In compliance with the provisions of the GFA Matchday COVID-19 Protocols, the club has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee.

The Club is expected to submit a Statement of Defence or should the club opt for personal hearing, the club will appear at a sitting of the Disciplinary Committee at a date to be announced.

Annor Walker explains how Olympics beat Asante Kotoko

Great Olympics head coach, Annor Walker has heaped praises on his charges after securing a slim 1-0 victory over poor Asante Kotoko on Thursday afternoon.

According to Walker, his side was determined to beat the Porcupine Warriors at all cost, having lost their last league game at Liberty Professionals.

Olympics won the week 3 outstanding league clash at the Accra Sports stadium with a lone goal by Michael Yeboah in the 53rd minute. Yeboah headed in from a nice cross by man of the match Gladson Awako.

Walker revealed they planned to beat the Reds at all cost.

“We planned to win this game at all cost right after we lost the Liberty game. We started planning for this game on Monday and so I give credit to my players,” Annor Walker said after the game.

“That was a wonderful performance they gave. This is a sweet victory. Kotoko is one of the top teams in the country and so this is a wonderful victory,” he added.

2020-21 GPL: Asante Kotoko suffer first defeat in the season

Asante Kotoko have been condemned to their first defeat in the season after losing the matchday 3 outstanding fixture against Great Olympics on Thursday. 

Midfielder Michael Yeboah scored the decisive goal in the second half as Olympics secured a 1-0 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The first half ended goalless with no clear-cut chances being created by the two teams.

Kotoko were, however, forced to make a substitution in the 35th minute as Patrick Asmah picked up an injury.

The second half looked more open with both teams going for the win. Olympics took their chance in the 54th minute.

Gladson Awakso outwitted his markers and then sent an incisive cross which Yeboah headed into the net.

Kotoko pressed for the equaliser but Olympics were resolute in defence to claim their second win of the season.

This is the first time in 26 years that Olympics have beaten Kotoko away from home.

The victory takes Olympics to the fifth position on the table while Kotoko have dropped to 11th.

Ghanaian Athlete Martha Bissah graduated from the Norfolk State University in the U.S with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and majored in Management Studies.

The graduation ceremony took place over the weekend.

Martha Bissah was well dressed in a kentey outfit to sell Ghanaian culture to the rest of the world. She also wore her graduation gown to cover the kentey cloth to be in a graduation mood.

Martha Bissah emerged as a star when he won 800 metres in the 2014 Junior Olympics. She obtained a scholarship to further his education in the U.S and to also pursue her career in athletics.

However, he had issues with Ghana Athletics Association and the Ghana Olympics Committee and almost quit competing for Ghana.

In 2014, Bissah won a gold medal in the girl’s 800 race at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics

Bissah was banned indefinitely by the Ghana Athletics Association in June 2016.

In February 2017, she won four gold medals at the Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor and Track & Field Championships.

In 2018, she was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the second time at Norfolk State University.

In 2019, for the second time Martha was named the Female Athlete of the year at Norfolk State University, she got the award after registering a time of 17 minutes and 16 seconds, thereby setting a new championship record.

The much-awaited Premier League clash between Asante Kotoko and Accra Great Olympics will come off on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the Accra Sports stadium. The matchday three fixture was postponed due to Asante Kotoko’s participation in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League.

The Porcupine Warriors on Friday, beat Legon Cities 1-0 at the Accra sports stadium to register their first win of the season with striker Osman Ibrahim scoring the only goal of the game.

The win took them to five points from three games with two games in hand, against (Accra Great Olympics and Medeama SC). Kotoko began the campaign with two draws (1-1) against Techiman Eleven Wonders and Berekum Chelsea.

Coach Maxwell Konadu is sweating on the fitness of Emmanuel Keyekeh, Mudasiru Salifu, Richard Senanu and Kwame Adom Frimpong. However, he received a boost on Monday, following the return of captain Felix Annan from injury.

Annan sustained the injury on matchday two during the game against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. The Porcupine Warriors boast of one clean sheet (1-0) against Legon Cities, having conceded one goal each against Eleven Wonders and Berekum Chelsea.

Left-back Patrick Asmah was the toast of fans in the game against Legon Cities as one of his incisive crosses from the left side resulted in the goal.

Abdul Ganiyu was also outstanding in central defence complementing Habib Mohammed at the back.

Emmanuel Keyekeh was impressive in the first half but the former Karela United man hobbled off at the break due to a wrist injury but he has been passed fit and is in the squad for the game as well as Osman Ibrahim and Adom Frimpong.

Accra Great Olympics got their season off to a bright start by going two games without defeat. They drew (1-1) against Medeama SC and recorded a convincing (3-0) win over Legon Cities on match day two. But that smooth sailing was halted on Sunday at the Ibrahim Tetteh park in Dansoman after a 2-0 loss to Liberty professionals.

Great Olympics have in their fold Gladson Awako, Michel Otu, Maxwell Abbey Quaye and Samuel Ashie Quaye.
