Christoffer Boateng pens contract extension with Danish side Vendsyssel

Ghanaian striker Christoffer Boateng has penned down a contract extension with Danish second-tier side Vendsyssel.

Boating extended his stay by signing a new four-year deal with his club.

The former Denmark youth international is in the treatment room after suffering a knee ligament injury September this year.

He joined Vendsyssel on a free transfer in 2019 following the expiration of his contract  with third-tier outfit Naestved Boldklub.

FIFA increases Africa’s Women’s World Cup slot

Following the success recorded at the 2019 Women World Cup in France, World soccer governing body (FIFA) has increased the number of participating teams from 24 to 32.

FIFA released a statement on Thursday stating how the countries will be selected from each confederation after qualifiers.

Africa had three representatives in the last edition of women World cup: Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa.

Nigeria and Cameroon were able to make it beyond the group stage while Bayana Bayana dropped out in the group stage.

FIFA confirmed that Africa will have four slot and two counties from the continent will also have opportunity to partake in the play off before joining the four qualified countries to make the total number six at the next World cup.

“Following the amazing success of the 2019 edition, the decision was taken last year to expand the FIFA Women’s World Cup to 32 teams and thus continue to foster the growth of women’s football. FIFA has since worked closely with the confederations to formulate a proposal for the allocation of slots and the Bureau of the FIFA Council has today confirmed the following berths for the 2023 edition:

Direct slot allocation (29 of the 32 participation slots)

6 direct slots for the AFC;
4 direct slots for CAF;
4 direct slots for Concacaf;
3 direct slots for CONMEBOL;
1 direct slot for the OFC; and
11 direct slots for UEFA.

The two host countries, Australia and New Zealand, will automatically qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, and their slots have been taken directly from the quotas allocated to their confederations, namely the AFC and the OFC respectively.

The three remaining slots will be decided through a ten-team play-off tournament with the following play-off slot allocation:

2 play-off slots for the AFC;
2 play-off slots for CAF;
2 play-off slots for Concacaf;
2 play-off slots for CONMEBOL;
1 play-off slot for the OFC; and
1 play-off slot for UEFA.

Four teams will be seeded in the tournament based on the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking prior to the play-off draw, with a maximum of one seeded team per confederation,” the statements reads.

FIFA cancels 2021 U-17 and U-20 World Cups

World Football governing body, FIFA has cancelled the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups scheduled for next year due to the pandemic which has rocked the world.

The next editions will now take place in 2023, with Indonesia still hosting the U20s and Peru the U17s.

FIFA U-20 World Cup™ and FIFA U-17 World Cup™

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided to cancel the 2021 editions of the men’s FIFA U-20 World Cup™ and FIFA U-17 World Cup™, and to appoint Indonesia and Peru respectively, who were due to host the tournaments in 2021, as the hosts of the 2023 editions.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to present challenges for the hosting of international sporting events and to have a restrictive effect on international travel. FIFA has therefore regularly consulted the relevant stakeholders, including the host member associations as well as the confederations involved in both tournaments originally scheduled to take place in 2021. In doing so, it became clear that the global situation has failed to normalise to a sufficient level to address the challenges associated with hosting both tournaments, including the feasibility of the relevant qualification pathways.

FIFA would like to express its gratitude to the host member associations, as well as the authorities in Indonesia and Peru, for their commitment and the tournament preparations made so far. FIFA looks forward to continuing to work closely together with the host countries to organise successful tournaments.

2020-21 GPL: Match Report: Ebusua Dwarfs hold Great Olympics in Accra

A resolute performance from Ebusua Dwarfs has seen the team hold Great Olympics to a 1-1 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League this afternoon.

On the matchday, the home team had a bright start to the game with their passing ensuring they enjoyed the lion’s share of possession.

Soon in the 12th minute, Great Olympics took the lead through an equalizer from Charles Danso Otu.

Unfortunately, the lead would not last with Obed Bentum netting in the 14th minute to restore parity for Ebusua Dwarfs.

Although both teams played some fine attacking football from there on, neither side could score and had to go into the break on level pegging.

After recess, Great Olympics continued to push in their quest to take the lead to merit all three points.

With Ebusua Dwarfs staying compact and defending well, the game has ended in a draw with both teams taking home a point.

Today’s result leaves Great Olympics sitting top of the Ghana Premier League standings while Dwarfs occupy the 9th spot.

Friendly: Hearts Of Oak beat lower-tier side Asekem FC

Ghana Premier League side, Accra Hearts of Oak triumphed over lower-tier side Asekem FC 2-1 in a training match today at the St Thomas Aquinas Park in Accra.

The game is in preparation towards their next league game against Bechem United on matchday seven of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League.

The goals were from Isaac Mensah formerly of Nkoranza Warriors and winger Patrick Razak.

The Phobians yesterday defeated Tema Selected Side by four goals to one in a cagey encounter.

The former CAF Champions League and Confederation cup winners are fine-tuning their performance to bounce back strongly before the resumption of the league.

The league is currently on break and expected to resume on January 2, 2020.

PHOTOS: Turkish Company Prefabex commence work on Hearts Of Oak Pobiman Academy Project

Turkish Construction firm Prefabex Yapi Teknolojiller San Ve Tic Limited have commenced work on phase two of the Hearts Of Oak Pobiman Academy Project site.

The work at the site started on Thursday.

In July, Ghanaian based real estate company, K.A Estate Limited constructed the groundworks for the Turkish company to continue with the ongoing phase.

The Pobiman Academy Project will be completed with the structures from Turkish based company Prefabex in the next six months, according to the club.

When completed, the Pobiman Project will have a Staff Residence, Senior Housing Unit, GYM, Training Centers (Pitches), Laundry, Swimming Pool, Lockers, Toilet Facilities, Kitchen and Dining Hall.

King Faisal appoint interim coach after sacking Slaviša Bozicic

Ghana Premier League side King Faisal have appointed Nana Andy Sinason as the interim coach of the club.

Sinason will take charge of the club till the club appoint a substantive coach.

He led his first  training session with the team on Tuesday just after his introduction.

His appointment comes following the sacking of Serbian trainer Slaviša Bozicic on Sunday.

Slavisa was sacked alongside his entire backroom staff after winning just a game in six matches in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

In all, the Serbian trainer played 19 matches, lost 10, drawn 7 and won two games during his stay with the Kumasi-based side.

Sinason has been charged to guide the team to maintain their premier league status.

He has previously managed Bechem United, Elmina Sharks and All Blacks.

Inter Allies FC have proceeded on Christmas break.

The Technical Crew and the Players are to embark on a short break to enable the team celebrate Christmas with their families.

They are to report for camp on Sunday 27th December and resume training on Monday, 28th December, 2020.

They will face Techiman Eleven Wonders on the 3rd of January, 2021 to clear Ghana Premier League week 7 encounter.

Caf CL: Johnson Smith confident of overturning first Leg loss to Al-Hilal

Asante Kotoko interim trainer, Johnson Smith is confident his side will progress to the group stage of the Caf Champions League despite losing the first-leg of the second preliminary round to Al-Hilal.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered a slim 0-1 defeat at home to the Sudanese champions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to a second half strike by Vinny Kibongona.

Ahead of the return leg in Sudan, Smith who replaced sacked Maxwell Konadu has urged the supporters of the club to rally behind the team.

“We are psyching the boys after yesterday’s defeat,there are more games to come.The next game is the most Important.

He also admitted that the club has been struggling to win games at their adopted venue.

“We struggle in games at the Accra sports stadium.

“The Al Hilal side is matured and very disciplined.
I believe we will get a positive result and qualify in Omdurman,” Johnson Smith told West Gold Radio.

Asante Kotoko SC will need an emphatic 2-0 win in Sudan to book a place in the money zone of the 2020/21 CAF Champions League.

The second leg is scheduled for January 6, 2021.
