Nana Yaw Amponsah-led Management secure GH₵12m Sponsorship deals for Kotoko in 4 months
Nana Yaw Amponsah and his management team have spent four months in office as Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer (CEO) but has been able to secure eight sponsors and partners for the club.
Officially unveiled in August, the young football administrator has managed to align the club with partnerships. Agreements that will help the club achieve the elite status on the African continent they are looking for.
In addition, the club has also secured sponsorships that will give the team the needed push. This to restore its past glory once results are produced on the field of play.
Securing sponsors for clubs has been a major problem for many clubs in the country, but the 37-year-old administrator has been able to secure mouthwatering sponsorship and partners for the club.
These sponsorships/partnerships according to Nana Yaw Amponsah in an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM has generated GH₵12m out of which GH₵1.2m has already been paid to the club’s accounts.
Below is the list of sponsorship and partnership deals sealed under the management of Nana Yaw Amponsah.
1.InStat Sport – a soccer statistics firm
2.Errea – official kits suppliers for 3 seasons
3.Veo – a video technology group that allows clubs to have high-quality videos for purposes of analysis
4. Adonko Next Level Energy Drink – official energy drink partner of Kotoko for 3 seasons
5.Hisense – Household Electronic Partner of Kotoko for 3 seasons
6.CEEK VR – A virtual reality video streaming service that allows you to watch live events and many more for 3 seasons
7.StarLife Assurance and Star Assurance – official life insurance partner and general insurance provider for 5 seasons.
8. Cedar Point Pharmacy – Official pharmaceutical partner of the club.
These sponsorships and Partnerships deals so far make Asante Kotoko the most lucrative Ghana premier league club. Nana Yaw Amponsah has promised to spell out all details of the deals after 100 days since his appointment.
Meanwhile, it is understood that a partnership agreement is close to being reached between Asante Kotoko and a club in the English Premier League which Nana Yaw Amponsah confirms is at 98.5%.

Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has intimated that his side brought in Brazilian midfielder Fabio Gama due to the expensive price tag of Mathew Anim Cudjoe.
Anim Cudjoe enjoyed a breakthrough spell with the Porcupine Warriors, were he was primarily used as an impact-substitute during his loan spell with the club in the annulled 2019/20 Ghana Premier League.
He was primed to join Kotoko on permanent basis however the club and the player’s representatives couldn’t reach an agreement and thus drafting in Fabio Gama as his successor.
Since joining Asante Kotoko in October 2020, the Brazilian international is yet to kick start his career with the Porcupine Warriors due to fitness issues as well as documentation which has aroused some form of agitation from the supporters front – who want to witness the ‘Kumerica Coutinho’ in action.- Advertisement –
However, Nana Yaw Amponsah has cleared the air regarding the delay in the player’s appearance of the club stating that Gama, who he deems as replacement for Legon Cities wonderkid Mathew Anim Cudjoe, will play soon for Asante Kotoko.
The former Phar Rangers scribe further stated the Porcupine Warriors brought in Mathew Anim Cudjoe due to the exorbitant price tag on the youngster’s head.
“Fabio Gama is the replacement of Anim Cudjoe because we couldn’t afford Anim Cudjoe,”
“His working permit was the only challenge but that has been sorted,” Nana Yaw Amponsah told Kumasi-based media outlet Oyerepa 100.7FM.

Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah admits mistake in sacking Maxwell Konadu
Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Amponsah insists sacking coach Maxwell Konadu was a mistake.
The former assistant Black Stars coach was sacked after Kotoko’s defeat to Great Olympics in the Ghana Premier League.
The decision to show Konadu the exit door was a sole one taken by the CEO, who admits it was mistake and should have inform other board members.
“I made a mistake for sacking Maxwell Konadu because I did not officially write to inform the board,” he told Oyerepa FM.
“I admit I am wrong and I accept that. Maxwell Konadu’s records at Kotoko was not bad but it was time for him to go and other big clubs in the world have done that but I again admit I was wrong for not informing the board.”
The Porcupine Warriors have had a difficult start to the season and are likely to exit the CAF Champions league after suffering a first leg home defeat to Al Hilal of Sudan.
Coach Johnson Smith is currently serving as an interim gaffer as the club looks for a replacement for Maxwell Konadu.

Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah opens up on Justice Blay’s failed move to the club
Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko Nana Yaw Amponsah has revealed why his outfit failed to sign Justice Blay on a permanent basis.
Blay, who joined the Porcupine Warriors on loan in 2019 had an impressive performance in the truncated Ghana Premier League.
However, at the end of the loan spell, he returned to parent club Medeama SC ahead of 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season and according to Nana Yaw, they took a decision to stop Blay’s pursuit as they believe the Yellow and Mauve didn’t want to lower the demands of the player.
He indicated several bids were turned down by the Tarkwa based club and that, after securing the services of others midfielders they thought it wise to withdraw their interest in the player.Medeama quoted 300,000 cedis and a future transfer fee of 40% on Justice Blay but we were also quoting 200,000 cedis and 40% on ward but Moses Parker wasn’t ready – Nana Yaw Amponsah on Oyerepa FM.

Jerome’s Take: Kotoko: Confronting the bitter truth
The verdict on Asante Kotoko’s show in CAF interclub competitions in the last decade has been unanimous – unanimously poor. That is worrying. From the Confederation Cup to the Champions League, the Porcupine experience has been failure to impress. Not a fabulous one. A tale of distress punctuates every Kotoko performance in Africa in recent years. It is time to end the trail of disappointment and supporters’ pain.
We still have the second leg of the CAF Champions League, preliminary round fixture with Sudan’s Al Hilal to play but on the back of the first leg 0-1 loss in Accra, not even the diehard supporters really believe the Porcupines will qualify to the group stage of the competition, an achievement that has eluded us in the last 14 years. The latest loss to Al Hilal was not the first of such home humiliation.
Four years ago, El Eulma of Algeria dealt us a much painful blow beating us 2-1 in Kumasi after an impressive away draw. Al Hilal, our new foe are a known force in African club football but it is also true that our nemesis in Africa have been unknown, less-fancied clubs who easily carried out threats of eliminating us – reinforcing the bitter truth that we have ceased being a powerful force in continental club football.
If we are still in denial, Al Hilal reminded us of that fact. “Days like this is a reminder of how much Kotoko have fallen behind the top tier of African club football” wrote revered, senior sports journalist, Michael Oti Adjei after we lost to Al Hilal. “The Africa Champions League just seem to be a cut above Ghana’s best and that’s sad”. Very sad.
“Asante Kotoko stopped being a big club in Africa years ago. The club must accept this fact in humility, get back to the basics and try again” added another of our finest sports journalist, Gary Al-Smith. “The requirement to dominate Africa in 2020 is so far behind Kotoko – it is not even debatable” Gary stated.
It is time to remove our cloak of self-denial. It is time to end the delusion. We are not who or what we claim to be in Africa. The poor manner we have managed affairs and which sadly distances us from the mighty blocs in African football, is our bane. Let us confront the hard-to-accept truth now. Let us bury our pride, return to the basics and learn to communicate well to the fans what we intend to do with this club.
Gary Al-Smith sums it. “The monetary base, the patience to recruit, the technical plan to plot a future. The club does not have it now. [I] sincerely hope this management – who seem very pragmatic – are willing to pass this message on to supporters. It will be tough and humbling but it must be done”. I share Gary Al-Smith’s sentiments to the fullest.
We have a Management that has pledged to drive the club on a different course. Let us support them. Money is key but words cannot be minced about the recruitment we do every season. It is not fit for African club football. Then, the patience to build and how we communicate to fans. These we should not ignore as we seek a new life for the club. It is time to confront the bitter truth, work harder and back to the top.

Preview: Kotoko seek to make amends in outstanding league game against Medeama
Medeama SC will on Sunday, lock horns with Asante Kotoko in their outstanding Premier League game at the Akoon park in Tarkwa.
The game was rescheduled because of Asante Kotoko’s participation in the Total CAF Champions League. This game will give the two teams an opportunity to right the wrongs as both sides aim to get their season back on track.
Medeama has won only once in the ongoing campaign (1-0) win against Ebusua Dwarfs in Cape Coast and many believe that the absence of Prince Opoku Agyemang and Nana Kwasi Babil is the reason for the club’s abysmal display thus far.
The two players who now ply their trade in South Africa and Austria respectively, combined to score sixteen goals for the mauves and yellows in the cancelled 2019/2020 season.
Medeama SC began the season with a home draw against Accra Olympics (1-1) and lost (2-1) to Dreams FC in their first two outings. They struggled to find the back of the net in a (0-0) stalemate against Legon Cities. But managed to beat Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 before dropping points against Liberty Professionals in a (0-0) draw at home.
Coach Samuel Boadu needs to find the right balance on Sunday against Asante Kotoko. They look solid at back with goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi always on top of his game.
Daniel Egyin, Samuel Appiah, Ibrahim Yaro and Ali Ouatarra have over the years established themselves as pillars at the back and their effective combination with Justice Blay, Eric Kwakwa and Akwasi Donsu in midfield is ever refreshing. Blay, arguably the best player last season, will play against his former team following a botched move to the Porcupine Warriors.
In attack, the only experienced player is Agyenim Boateng, a striker who has yet to sparkle in the League, netting only once. But they have creativity in Kwadwo Asamoah, a man who lighted up the competition last season during his spell with Techiman Eleven Wonders. Aside their struggles, Medeama SC have yet to win a game at home this season after two attempts. 
For Asante Kotoko, it will be a great time to fix their problems. They head into the game five days after losing one nil to Sudanese giants Al Hilal in the Total CAF Champions League.
The Porcupine Warriors have registered only one win in their last three games, losing two and winning one. Stop gap Coach Johnson Smith recorded a win at Dawu against Dreams FC but they were pegged back by Al Hilal on Wednesday.
Their lead striker Kwame Poku has gone four games without scoring and that would be a major worry for the technical team.
Osman Ibrahim who gave them the winner against Legon Cities has not shown consistency in the season. Patrick Asmah and Moro Ibrahim give them options at left back with Habib Mohammed, Yusif Mubarik, Ismael Ganiu and Wahab Adams competing for places in central defence.
Kotoko have lost midfielders Emmanuel Keyekeh and Mudasiru Salifu to injuries. But Latif Anabila, Kwame Adom Frimpong, Muniru Sulley and Godfred Asiamah have slotted in calmly for them.
Last season, Prince Opoku Agyemang scored to hand Medeama SC a 1-0 win against Asante Kotoko at the Akoon park.

Brighton youngster Tariq Lamptey donates football kits and food items to a village in Ghana (+PHOTOS)
English-born of Ghanaian descent Tariq Lamptey has made huge donations to upcoming young footballers in a town called Nuaso close to Oduamse Krobo in the Eastern part of Ghana
The Brighton and Hove Albion wing back distributed football apparels like, jerseys from his own club, pair of all kinds of boot, bibs, shinguards and many more to the kids in the community which will spark their interest more in the game.
Though he wasn’t around himself but there was a group of people that represented him in making these huge donations which also included food, bottle of voltics, carton of drinks and many other food items to the kids and everyone that was present.
There has been series of contacts since his discovery from the Chelsea Academy between the GFA and his family trying to convince him to play for the Black Stars but there hasn’t been any official and confident response from himself. Currently, Tariq Lamptey has featured for the England U18, 19 and 21 side but is yet to make his debut for the Three Lions.
The 20-year-old has been tremendous for Brighton with his storming performance gingering their attacking instincts this season scoring one and providing three assists in 11 games for the Seagulls so far this season.
The youngster still remains sideline and is yet to return in action again having sustained a hamstring injury against Fulham missing their last Premier League clash against Sheffield United.

Nana Yaw Amponsah gives hope to disheartened Kotoko fans as he delivers his Christmas Message
Kumasi Asante Kotoko Club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nana Yaw Amponsah, has assured the family of the club to believe in the team’s restructuring and building process which he believes will come to an enviable end.
The Porcupine Warriors are struggling to find their feet this season in all competitions they are participating including the CAF Champions League.
The Reds have won just two (2) out of eight (8) games this season in all competitions. The poor run of results led to the sacking of Head Coach Maxwell Konadu after suffering a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Accra Great Olympics and appointing assistant Coach Johnson Smith as an Interim Coach.
Fans were highly disappointed in the team’s display when they lost 1-0 to Sudanese side Al-Hilal Omdurman at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, 23rd December, 2020.
Kotoko is hoping to turn things around when they travel away to Sudan in the 2nd leg.

Great Olympics are an over-hyped team – Dwarfs coach Ernest Thompson slams Dade Boys
Ebusua Dwarfs head coach, Ernest Thompson-Quartey has asserted that Accra Great Olympics are an over-hyped side in the ongoing 2020-21 Ghana Premier League.
The Dade Boys have been a delight to watch in the new campaign snatching some impressive wins against sides like Legon Cities and Asante Kotoko which resulted in the sacking of their coaches.
Great Olympics and Ebusua Dwarfs played out a 1-1 stalemate in an outstanding Ghana Premier League game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Olympics took the lead in the 12th minute through Charles Danso Otu but Dwarfs pulled parity two minutes later through Obed Bentum.
In his post-ma,tch conference with the media Coach Thompson said Annor Walker’s charges were lucky not to have suffered a defeat on the day.
”I’m surprised at the over-hyping of Olympics. From this match, I realized they have been over-hyped because they were damn lucky. We could have beaten them hands down.
”It is an over-hyped team and need to work hard if they are really going to make the name they want to.
”We actually threw away some begging chances. We couldn’t concentrate properly and those chances could have been goals for us and that was the problem.”
Olympics have moved to the 2nd position on the Ghana Premier League standings with 11 points from six matches.
