The 2020-21 Ghana Premier League resume after the Christmas break with Hearts of Oak playing against Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium in a match-day seven fixture.

Hearts of Oak ended the year with a hard-fought 2-1 win over struggling King Faisal at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman.

Bechem United on the other hand, finished on top of the league table after defeating Ashantigold 1-0 in an outstanding game at the Nana Gyabour Fosu Park in Bechem.

The game promises to be full of action and exciting as the Phobians have been an improved side under new coach Kosta Papic whilst Bechem United are unbeaten in the ongoing campaign.

Bechem United have recorded four wins and two draws (W4 D2) after six matches played in the season.

Hearts of Oak have recorded two wins, two draws and two defeats after match-day six ( W2 D2 L2).

The Phobians have been inconsistent in their home form recording just one win against Dreams FC on match-day five.

At home the stats indicates Hearts of Oak one win, one loss and one draw (W1 L1 D1).

On the other hand, Bechem United have a good record playing games away in the ongoing season.

They picked a 2-1 win over Inter Allies at the Accra Sports Stadium on match day five.

Injuries and Suspensions

Hearts of Oak midfielder Emmanuel Nettey has been ruled out of the game due to injury and Nuru Sulley is also a major doubt for the clash despite returning to training this week.

Bechem United will also be missing Hafiz Konkoni, Charles Bosompem and captain Moro Salifu.

The game comes off on Saturday, 2nd January, 2021 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Ghana Football Association has named match officials for the Week 7 fixtures of the Ghana Premier League.

On Saturday, Abdul Latif Qadir will be the centre back when Hearts of Oak host Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He will be assisted  Stephen Balanguena and Freeman Anwulo.

AshantiGold entertain Berekum Chelsea at the Len Clay Sports Stadium with referee Mubarik Musah in-charge.

His assistants will be Gilbert Adom Mensah and Eric Ndebugri.

Head coach for Legon Cities FC, Bashir Hayford has admitted that there is pressure on his team ahead of their clash against Liberty Professionals in the Ghana Premier League.

The two sides will go head to head on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at the Carl Reindolf Park at Dansoman to fight for the available 3 points on Match Week 7 of the ongoing campaign.

The Royals have been struggling since the commencement of the league and are languishing at the bottom of the 18-club league table after 6 games with a paltry 3 points.

Speaking ahead of the all-important fixture, Hayford indicated that Sunday’s game is an opportunity for his side to redeem themselves.

“Yes, the pressure is that our position on the league table is so bad for us and that is not where we want to be. We need to lift our game. We thought that in our last game, we will come out with the maximum points but it was unfortunate, Sunday is another opportunity for us to redeem ourselves, ” he told the club’s website.

“We have spoken to the boys and psyche them up to put the past behind them and focus on what’s to come. We may be down now but if we win games, we will rise, so this is not the end. We will take it one game at a time.

He also mentioned that they have prepared adequately for the game.

“Well, the boys themselves know the task that is ahead of us. Also, judging from the fact that our position on the log is very bad and so this will be a wake-up call for them.

“This week, we have worked very hard in training and we hope it will pay off. We know that Liberty Professionals are a tough side and they will come at us but we have prepared well for that task. We hope that the day will be for us.

The two-time Ghana Premier League winning coach also talked about how he is working on the team’s goal-scoring.

“Yes, we are working on all of them since my arrival. I am trying to convert some midfielders into strikers and also give the midfielders the freedom to shoot from behind the strikers.

“We don’t want to rely on our strikers only for goals, so that will be the plan going forward. So far so good and I think they are picking up gradually. I hope that will score goals from open play and not that from penalties.”
