Karela United fought back from a goal down to beat Elmina Sharks 3-1 at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park and return top of the Ghana Premier League table. 

Elmina Sharks took the lead through experience midfielder James Bissue, after driving in a ferocious strike from a free-kick in the 15th minute.

But the hosts leveled ten minutes later through Richard Berko following a dominant spell from the Anyinase boys.

Sharks were resilient to ensure they went into the break with the scoreline at 1-1.

Karela United coach Evans Adotey made a couple of changes in the second half as the home side chased victory, bringing on Kwame Boateng for Samuel Ofori and Darlington Fosu for Obed Kofi.

With six minutes left Kwame Boateng put Karela in-front for the first time in the game with a brilliant strike.

Karela United were then a warded a penalty which was expertly converted by striker Diawisie Taylor.

The win sends Karela United to top of the table with Sharks going on a three game losing streak.

Aduana Stars rallied from behind to seal a 2-1 win over Great Olympics at the Nana Agyeman Badu II Park in Dormaa Ahenkro in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

Maxwell Ashie-Quaye drew first blood for the visitors but Ivorian Flavien Kouassi levelled for the home side before Yahaya Mohammed converted a penalty won by Emmanuel Osei Baffour later in the second half.

Great Olympics, who made the 448.6 km trip from Accra to Dormaa Ahenkro without their head coach Annor Walker, took the lead against the run of play when Maxwell Ashie-Quaye picked the pocket of the Aduana defence by beating the offside trap to neatly finish off for the opening goal of the game on the 54th minute mark.

Aduana Stars, the home side, went into the game at the Nana Agyeman Badu II Park in Dormaa Ahenkro without key defender Caleb Amankwah whose contract has expired.

Aduana charged into the game after Olympics scored the opening goal and deservedly snatched the equaliser with a flamboyant finish from around the area.

The Fire Boys perpetuated the pressure they mounted on the visitors after levelling things up as Paa Kwesi Fabin introduced speedster Emmanuel Osei Baffour. The former AshantiGold winger won a penalty for Aduana after he was brought down inside the box. Forward Yahaya Mohammed expertly converted the kick to put Aduana Stars ahead with 16 minute left to play.

The former OGC Nice midfielder reacted angrily when he was substituted by coach Kwesi Fabin moments after he scored from the spot as his berth was taken by Richard Nathan.

Agbloe met a cross from left back John Tedeku and backheeled the ball into the net for the opening goal in the sixth minute.

After half hour, striker Godwin Agbevor sublimely put the ball past goalkeeper Eric Antwi with a tap-in effort from close range.

Seven minutes later Agbloe scored his second goal of the afternoon and made it three-nil.

WAFA were forced to make a forced substitution after midfielder Lawrence Agyekum got stretchered off and was replaced by Forson Amankwah.

Just before the half time whistle, Agbevor whipped in a cross from the right and Agbloe turned it in again for the fourth goal.

It was a hat-trick on the afternoon for the former Ghana youth international.

After the break, Medeama stepped up and were immediately awarded a penalty which was converted by striker Abass Mohammed.

Two minutes into the second half, the Mauve and Yellows won a free kick close to the box and midfielder Rashid Nortey fired past goalkeeper Ferdinand Sabi Acquah.

Then Nortey struck from range to beat goalkeeper Acquah again to make it 4-3 now in a surprise comeback.

Sixth minute from time, WAFA managed to score another through Agloe to make it 5-3 and when everybody thought it was game over, Justice Blay pulled the trigger with a thunderbolt.

Hearts of Oak ended Bechem United’s unbeaten run by beating them 6-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Abdul Manaf Umar, Victor Aidoo (2X), Frederick Botchway (pen), Mamane Lawali, and Benjamin Afutu scored for the Phobians with Prince Kwabena Adu getting the consolation.

Bechem United ended the game with 10 men.

Head coach of Bechem United, Kwaku Danso has disclosed what caused his side’s heavy defeat against Hearts Of Oak on Friday afternoon.

The Hunters were humbled 6-1 by the Phobians in a match-day seven battle at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Abdul Manaf Umar, Victor Aidoo( 2X), Frederick Botchway (pen), Mamane Lawali, and Benjamin Afutu netted for Hearts Of Oak with Prince Kwabena Adu getting the consolation.

The Phobians’ massive victory halted the visitors unbeaten run in the ongoing campaign.

Danso said in a presser that he is disappointed with his players’ lack of tactical discipline in Hearts loss.

He explained that the players failed to play according to his tactical plan and that attributed to the defeat.

“It is very humiliating and very unfortunate. I wasn’t expecting that scoreline but it is a game of football. Today can say my players were not tactically disciplined.

“You give them instruction but they will hesitate. So tactically they were not good and that led to this humiliating scoreline.” He said in a post-match interview.

“As I said you are on top of your game and your first lost is 6-1, then it is very painful. We are going to work on that, our next match we have to make amends.”

Bechem United despite the loss still leads the table with 14 points, three points above Hearts of Oak, Great Olympic and Karela United who are all tied on 11 points each.
