WAFA coach Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum criticized goalkeeper Ferdinand Sabi Acquah for his performance in his side’s hard-fought 5-4 victory against Medeama.

According to the University of Cape Coast lecturer, Sabi Acquah ‘my let the team down today  in the shaky win on Sunday. 

The Academy Boys nearly threw away a 4-0 first half lead as they had to fought hard to held on to win 5-4 in Sogakope in a match-day 7 fixture.

Medeama scored three second half goals to keep snapping at the heels of the home side and Ogum blames his shot-stopper.

”I can’t even comprehend. I mean goals from 30 metres, 25 yards and what have you. I don’t know what is wrong with him but they were poor decisions from him,” Ogum said in the post-match interview.

”Even shots are taken from 30 yards, 25 yards, 35 yards, I think as a goalkeeper you have a clear view of the ball and should be able to save the balls. I think my goalkeeper let the team down today. He had a very poor performance. He didn’t live up to the billing.

As to whether the mistakes by the youngster could cost him his No.1 position going into their next game, the University lecturer said: ”I think we will have an interaction with the goalkeepers trainer and we will pick it up from there.”

Liberty Professionals proved too strong for visitng Legon Cities who came to the Dansoman park looking desperate to get a win in a match they had a man down.

It seemed a one sided first half, but home side Liberty Professionals failed to put the ball behind the net of the Royals who made 4 changes to the side that lost to Ebusua Dwarfs in Accra, Mathew Anim Cudjoe returned to the side after spending some time with the Ghana U20 side that won the WAFU zone B championship in Benin.
Whiles both Elvis Opoku and Forster Braimah were missing from the side.

His inclusion together with Jonah Attuquaye and Baba Mahama was expected to offer Coach Bashir Hayford enough flexibility in midfield, but it turned out that the power of George Amoako, and the fluidity of Godfred Atuahene made things difficult for the Royals.

With all their control, Liberty Professionals failed to capitalize on the defensive weaknesses of their opponent with George Ansong failing to connect a perfect pass laid before him with only Fatau Dauda to beat.

The Dansoman based lads were offered more opportunities when Fadali Yussif was given the marching off orders following a second Yellow card in the 38th minute.

The Numerical advantage meant bothing to the Scientific soccer lads, who kept missing clear goal scoring opportunities that came theor way before the first half break.

Liberty Professionals returned from the break looking more stronger of the two, with a man advantage, but Bashir Hayford showed hos tactical superiority marshalling men in midfield to gend off any danger.

By the Hour mark, Coach David Ocloo had hecome restless on the touchlines as Legon Cities kept Frustrating them.

In the 81st minute, George Amoako produced what became the game changer after he outwitted his marker Joseph Adjei in the centre circle, before laying a short pass into the 18 yard box for Godfred Atuahene who was brought down for a penalty.

Abraham Wayo stepped in to slop in the only goal of the day.

That goal was enough to hand Liberty the much needed points in DANSOMAN.

AshantiGold SC returned to winning ways on Sunday as they came from behind to beat Berekum Chelsea 2-1 at the Len Clay Stadium.

The Gold and Black outfit have now recorded three straight home victories scoring 11 goals in the process.

Top marksman Appiah McCarthy scored his 3rd free-kick of the season after putting the Miners on level terms with a sublime finish.

AshantiGold trainer Milovan Cirkovic made two changes to the side that suffered a 1-0 loss to Bechem United last week at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour park.

Hans Kwofie returned from injury after missing four games as he replaced Dacosta Boadu in the starting lineup.

Amos Addai also replaced Yaw Annor in the starting set up.

Chelsea coach Abdul-Hanan Abu also made two alterations to his starting lineup from their 1-1 draw with Aduana Stars a fortnight ago.

Nasiru Osman Ebla took the place of Edward Kpodo in central defence whilst Ushau Abu replaced Richard Kissi Boateng in the starting lineup.

The visitors got their noses in front with Augustine Henneh scoring with a beautiful drive from the edge of the box.

AshantiGold came close to levelling proceedings but a long distance shot from youngster Isaac Opoku Agyemang forced goalkeeper Kwadwo Osei Bonsu to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute.

Kwofie netted his 3rd goal of the campaign on his return in the 40th minute to put the Miners ahead following an excellent effort by David Abagna Sandan to set him up.

The second half was virtually balanced with both teams failing to create scoring opportunities.
