Former Ghana shot-stopper Richard Kingson has joined Hearts of Oak as their new goalkeepers trainer. 

The 42-year-old replaces Ben Owu who left his role on Tuesday citing personal reasons for his departure.

Richard Kingson popularly known as Olele last worked as the goalkeepers trainer of the Black Stars and has since been training with lower tier side Emmanuel FC.

Hearts of Oak have relied on Richard Attah and Richmond Ayi this season, with neither of them the number one.

The Accra-based club are currently in deep crisis after the entire technical team resigned within a week.

Fans of the Ghanaian giants have protested against the way the club is being managed by the current board.

The Phobians will face Ebusua Dwarfs on Sunday with U-15 coach Samuel Nii Noi acting as interim coach.

The Volta Regional Football Coaches Association (VRFCA) is set to inaugurate itself this Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Pleasure Gardens in Ho.

The body which is under the Ghana Football Coaches Association came together some months ago to deliberate on the formation of the Association to properly affiliate with its national body to address the welfare, drive Unity and professionalism within their circles and help themselves develop.

Having already elected its Executives, the VRFCA intends to formerly Induct the members of the Executives and also create the awareness of their existence and drive the involvement agenda of Clubs, as their inexistence makes it difficult for them to even get jobs at Big Clubs like WAFA.

Secretary to the Association, Simon Kpewu tells TalksenseSports their mandate is to strive to come together and enrich themselves by way of Courses and push each other to the top.

“We have realized the many talents in the region but only few coaches to help scout them. We can also not organize Coaching courses in the region which will involve a lot of unlicensed coaches but always move to other regions and so National mandated us to form the Association. There is the significant need for this Association, because we can recommend ourselves for Bigger Clubs like WAFA and help ourselves move to the next level.”

“We have good Coaches here but because of lack of connection, we don’t see them like the other regions do, even to National Teams. We also don’t get the chance to spread opportunities within the region but only one side of the region.” He added.

The event at the Pleasure Garden in Ho is scheduled to begin at 9:00am prompt and all stakeholders in the development and promotion of the beautiful game of football are invited.

Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak Alhaji Akanbi has furiously slammed supporters of the club for pointing fingers at him for the club woes.

The Phobians are currently in serious crisis following the resignation of three of their technical team members.

Assistant coach Asare Bediako was the first member to resign followed by head coach Kosta Papic and goalkeeper’s trainer Ben Owu on 15th February 2021.

Sabahn Quaye, a long-serving Team Manager is reported to have been sacked by the club after exposing two of the board members at an emergency meeting.

In the wake of the clubs woes, supporters have fingered Alhaji Akambi as the man behind the club’s recent struggles.

But in a press conference Alhaji Akambi has questioned the supporters if they are sensible than the majority shareholder of the club.

“I’m not even concentrating on what they are saying, my most important issue is to face whatever is ahead of me to do it but not a even a single person has come out to point out what I have done wrong until now, for so many years nobody is able to come to say this is what I have done”

“The fans keep mentioning my name but if I were to be on Facebook or Youtube by now I would have earn bigger money because I have been trending. They are just pointing fingers at me”

“The supporters have tagged me as a whistle blower. They think I have been lying to Togbe but excused me to say, are they more sensible than Togbe Afede, none of them is sensible than hi, he knows better than them” he said.

Hearts of Oak players have accused coach Kosta Papic of promoting favouritism and selecting players based on likes and dislikes.

This, according to team captain Fatawu Mohammed, has been the root cause of the Phobians’ recent downward spiral in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

Hearts have not won in their last four fixtures and the situations surrounding the team during this bad patch have seen Papic resigning from his post after just 77 days in charge.

The 60-year-old, as part of his reasons to vacate post, told the club’s board there is a division in the team and he had no hope things could change with him still in charge.

In a press briefing addressing issues surrounding the departure of Papic and some first-team coaches on Wednesday, skipper Fatawu confirmed that some members of the dressing room were unhappy with the coach’s management.

“What the boys said was about favoritism. Some players feel that they were ready and deserved to start certain games.

“Also, some felt that their mates return from injury and in no time get selection. They work hard and do not get the nod,” he stated.

Fatawu continued: “For example, a player will be out for one or two weeks and upon his return gets called up into the first eleven and so it caused a lot of confusion among the players.

‘’The players started feeling the coach was biased in his selection as it was only his favorites that got call-ups and this brought division in the team.

“His style of coaching was not getting us the result as he was fielding favorite players and not ones who were ready and fit to play,” Fatawu also noted.

Hearts are 11th on the Ghana Premier League standings and they play Ebusua Dwarfs at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Board of Directors of Hearts Of Oak have issued a press release to react to the resignation of coach Kosta Papic and its related issues.

The Serbian gaffer on Monday, February 15, 2021, resigned from the club just 78 days into his appointment as the head coach of the Ghanaian side.

According to a quote attributed to Papic, he left the team due to interference in player selection by the hierarchy of the club.

Papic’s departure was a big blow following the exit of the assistant coach Joseph Asare Bediako last week and the reported sacking of team manager of the side Sabahn Quaye. The goalkeepers’ trainer of the team Ben Owu also left his post a few hours after the resignation of Papic.

The happenings angered the supporters and besieged the club’s secretariat on Wednesday morning, locking up the place in protest of what they believe to be bad management.

They have also demanded the immediate reconstitution of the board of directors and appointment of a new coach and Chief Executive Officer.

But the Hearts of Oak board have refused to comment on the supporters conduct at the club secretariat and have set June as the month to hold their Annual General Meeting and address other important issues at the club.

Responding to Kosta Papic’s resignation, the release indicated five reasons Papic communicated to them as the reasons why he was quitting the club.

1. Lack of trust from the players;
2. Players refusal to a bid by his instructions;
3. Division in the playing body(cliques);
4. General lack of cooperation from the players; and
5. His inability to turn the situation around.

Hearts of Oak supporters have locked up the club’s secretariat as part of protests on what they believe to be horrible management.

The incensed fans led by Supporters Chief Elvis Herman Hesse have made certain demands to the Board and majority shareholder Togbe Afede XIV which must be acted on immediately.

The fans are demanding the dismissal of a member of the board of the club, Alhaji Akambi.

They are also demanding reconstitution of the club’s board of directors and an emergency meeting with Togbe Afede, the club’s biggest shareholder of the issued shares.

There are also calls for the appoint of a local coach and a Chief Executive Officer.

The fans have given the Board up to a week to respond to the demands or face their wrath.
