Preview: Asante Kotoko aim to secure win against Bechem United after Confederation Cup exit

Asante Kotoko will welcome Bechem United at the capital, the second midweek action of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium in match-week 16 tonight.

The Porcupine Warriors have been off in the country’s top flight for two weeks due to their recent participation in the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors despite the hard fight couldn’t overturn things around in Setif to cruise into the group stages having held the Algerian Ligue 1 leaders to a goalless drawn game at the Stade 8 Mai 1945 stadium over the weekend.

Bechem United however, have always struggle playing away from home this season especially against the top sides and might want to send huge signal tonight by shocking the giants before the close of the day.

The Hunters failed to capitalise on a home advantage over Legon Cities last Sunday after Moro Salifu’s spot-kick got cancelled out by Hans Kwofie to share the points among the two sides.

Asante Kotoko despite having two games in hand still find themselves in the top 4 with 23 points and will claim back their top spot if they are able to grind victories in their two outstanding games.

Also, Bechem United having remained winless in their last two matches still make the top six sitting sixth on the league standing with 23 points.

The Porcupine Warriors despite landing in the country on Monday from Algeria, had no rest and held a full scale training yesterday looking poised for today’s game.

The good news is, left back Patrick Asmah has returned to first team training, looking fully fit and will ready for the game this evening. 

On the opposition end, Bechem United missed the service of two key players, goalkeeper Prince Asempa and marksman Hafiz Konkoni and are likely to return into the squad for this crunchy encounter.

DOL Zone Three wrap-up: Tema Youth pip Danbort, Mighty Jets suffer defeat at Oda, Rangers and Planners share spoils at Akropong

Tema Youth SC scored in the second half to pip Danbort FC 1-0 on match day nine Zone Three National Division One League game at the Presbyterian school park in neighbouring Nungua on Wednesday.

Evan Osei Wusu scored in the 67th minute of the game to register his 4th goal of the season in a tension packed encounter.  Tema Youth are unbeaten in nine matches and join Accra Lions at the top of the table with 21 points, intensifying the title race.

The Habour Warriors are just one goal shy of leaders Accra Lions, two points ahead of third placed Heart of Lions. Oda Kotoku Royals also won 3-1 against Mighty Jets at home to move to fourth with 17 points as Okyeman Planners snatched a point against Phar Rangers in a 1-1 draw to move to the fifth place.

Two other fixtures will be cleared on Thursday. Agbozume Weavers host Vision FC at Sogakope. While, Accra City Stars play Uncle T United FC.  Find below results of matches played on Wednesday.

DOL Zone Two wrap-up: Skyy FC beat Nzema Kotoko, Hasaacas draw blank with Wassaman, Star Madrid humble Proud United

Skyy FC Daboase scored in either half to beat Nzema Kotoko 2-1 on match day Nine Zone Two National Division One game at Azuleolanu park on Wednesday.

The win takes the Daboase based side to the top of the Zone Two table with 19 points following the inability of Samartex and Hasaacas to win on match day nine.

Samartex 1996 led the table with 16 points going into the mid-week action but the Sameraboi lads were pipped 1-0 by All Blacks at Swedru. While Sekondi Hasaacas drew blank with Wassaman United at the Gyandu park.

Baba Mamadu opened the scoring for Skyy FC in the 28th minute before Ebenezer Mamatah added the second goal in the 79th minute to seal victory. The home side scored a consolation through Akesse Akesse.

In other matches, Stephen Manu scored a brace to give New Edubiase United a 2-0 win against Bekwai Youth Football Academy.

Alhassan Siisu scored a hattrick as Steadfast FC beat Kintampo FC 4-1 on match day Nine Zone One National Division One League game at the Aliu Mahama stadium on Wednesday.

The home side opened fire on the visitors from the blast of the whistle and got the first goal in the 8th minute of the game through Mariwan Asolo Seidu. Abdulai Umar pulled parity for the visitors one minute later with a solo effort leaving the score line at 1-1 for the first half.

Steadfast FC came back stronger in the second half and showed character in search of the second goal. The hard work paid off in the 69th minute when Alhassan Siisu scored the second goal.

The lanky- striker added the third goal two minutes (88th) from time before adding the fourth of the afternoon – to complete his first hattrick of the season.

In Sunyani, Tano Bofoakwa recorded a 1-0 win over Young Apostles through an 11th minute strike from Abu Enock. Elsewhere in Berekum, Arsenal threw away their lead to draw 1-1 with Tamale City at Golden City park.

Kofi Ansu Patrick scored in the 56th minute but his goal was cancelled Babamu Ibrahim in the 84th minute to break the heart of the home side.

Samuel Boadu resigned from his position with immediate effect after the Tarkwa-based club’s 2-0 victory over Eleven Wonders in the Ghana Premier League game on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.

The Phobians are without a head coach and assistant after Kosta Papic and Asare Bediako resigned from their posts last week.

Reports are that Hamza Obeng who has been working with Boadu at Medeama as an assistant coach is likely to join him.

Head coach of Ghana Premier League side Medeama SC, Samuel Boadu has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

Snippets of information gathered indicate that Boadu tendered the resignation letter a few hours after the side’s 2-0 win over Eleven Wonders in a Ghana Premier League game on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at Tarkwa.

The young and brilliant gaffer who joined the side in 2017 from the second-tier side Asokwa Deportivo cited personal reasons.

The rel ionshipindicates Medeama SC and Boadu is believed to have been sour from the start of the 2020/21 season speeding attempts of the young coach to leave.
 

But report indicate that Samuel Boadu has not been happy with the appointment of Seth Ablade as the Technical Director of the Yellow and Mauves.

Again, his initial three-year contract is set come to an end but has not commenced formalities to renew it.

He’s the head coach of the Ghana U15 side that was started about two years ago and is credited with laying the foundation of the recent U17 side, the Black Starlets.

Report indicates that he could be named the substantive coach for Hearts Of Oak.

Bashir Hayford believes that the best is still to come from Legon Cities FC after their 2-0 victory over cash-strapped Elmina Sharks on Wednesday evening.

The two sides locked horns in a match-day 16 encounter of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Sports.

Striker Hans Kwoffie who recently joined the Royals scored twice to secure the all-important win for Cities.

The victory has lifted Hayford’s side from their precarious position to the 13th position on 19 points.

Speaking after the game, the outspoken gaffer expressed his excitement about the improvement he has seen so far.

“We are not even the up to the level I want this team to be but gradually and with game after game, you can see the improvement and we are happy about that. We will hit our peak soon.

Although the side has been impressive in recent outings, Hayford noted that there is more room for improvement despite the arrival of Hans Kwoffie -who has netted 3 goals in two matches for the side.

“I can’t say that the entire problem is solved because of the arrival of Hans Kwoffie. There’s still more games to go and we need more wins. Together, we will all lift ourselves to the highest level.”

Legon Cities newboy Hans Kwoffie wasted no time in settling in the team after scoring at either side of halftime to hand the Royals a deserved victory against Elmina Sharks at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday night.

Kwoffie who was making only his second appearance for the club opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after a spell of dominance by the hosts.

Moments before the opener, Legon Cities had been forced into a first half substitution after Richmond Antwi replaced injured Foster Braimah.

The Royals started the game on a bright note forcing Elmina Sharks into making early mistakes and could have even grabbed the opener just three minutes into the game.

Baba Mahama found his way into the box and was brought down with the ball falling to Kwoffie whose effort went wide.

The momentum grew after the break, as Legon Cities doubled their lead just five minutes into the second half. Again from the boots of Hans Kwoffie.

Legon Cities nearly had a third on the hour mark but Richmond Antwi failed to connect.

Elmina Sharks looked disorganized and out of sorts as the hosts continue to dominate the half.

With the game approaching the end coach Bashiru Hayford introduce Shamsu Alhassan for Jonah Attuquaye.

The hosts held on to win 2-0 to end a run of three successive draws.

2020/21 GPL: Match Report: Ebusua Dwarfs pip King Faisal

Ebusua Dwarfs clinched a vital 1-0 victory over King Faisal Babes at the Cape Coast Stadium on Wednesday to get back to winning ways.

This is Dwarfs’ third home win of the season.

Dwarfs coach Ernest Thompson Quartey made three changes to the squad that lost 3-2 to Hearts of Oak last Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Abass Inusah Abdulai replaced goalkeeper Razak Issah between the sticks whilst Martin Tsiboah came in for Sumaila Moro.

Richard Amoah was handed his first start of the season as he took the place of Benjamin Acquah in the starting lineup.

Michael Amoh also returned to the starting lineup as Kwame Bwoakyi and Zubairu Ibrahim were dropped to the bench.

The visitors had majority share of possession in the first half of the match but came close to scoring only once which forced goalkeeper Inusah to make a good save.

The Abontoa Abontoa boys also came close to opening the scoring just once which saw Yusiu Kaisan making a save to prevent it.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute after captain Fuseini Mutawakilu put the ball into his own net to give Dwarfs the advantage.

Dwarfs held on to the lead for the remainder of the match to ensure all three points remain at the Cape Coast Stadium as they moved up two places on the league log.

King Faisal remain in the relegation places after the defeat.
