Legon Cities FC continued with their impressive form in the Ghana Premier League when they pipped Heart of Lions at the Dawu Park ‘Theatre of Dreams’ on Monday afternoon.

Cities claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over the newly-promoted side to stretch their winning streak to five matches, scoring 7 goals and conceding just once.

Williams Kwaku Adjei’s first-half goal was the difference of the matchday 16 fixture as Cities remain in the 8th position on the league table.

Kwaku Adjei connected a pass from Kwabena Boateng to secure the winning goal in the 16th minute of the match.

The Royals have accumulated 24 points, with half of them coming from their last four matches. They are five points away from the league leaders FC Samartex.

Lions are still without a single win since their return to top-flight action. They picked eight points from 14 matches with two games in hand.

Bashir Hayford has begun his adventure as the new head coach of Lions with a defeat, but it was performed that can him hope of positive consequences going forward.

The Kpando-based club are languishing bottom of the league standings, and they are seven points off the safety places.

Assistant referee Kwasi Brobbey has admitted the decision to disallow Kotoko’s goal against Real Tamale United was “wrong.”

At 0-0 in the first half, the Porcupine Warriors scored a legitimate goal following an impressive display but was ruled out by Assistant Line One Kwasi Brobbey.

On the 19th minute, Lamptey who put up a man-of-the-match performance, gave up a perfect through pass that was cut back by Isaac Oppong, with Mukwala tapping in to score from close range, but Oppong was adjudged to be in an offside position by Brobbey.

However, replays showed the decision was an incorrect call.

After the game, Kwasi Brobbey, responding to a post on Facebook by StarTimes commentator Nana Darkwah Gyasi, admitted that the decision was wrong, noting that he got confused as a RTU defender blocked his view.

“The RTU player blocked my vision, and I didn’t see the time of the kick. Also, I didn’t see the defender behind the Kotoko attacker. At that moment, I was confused but needed to make a decision. Unfortunately, the decision I took was wrong, Nana Darkwa Gyasi,” he explained.

Kotoko won the game by a goal to nil, thanks to a late penalty nicely converted by Steven Mukwala.

The Asante Kotoko match against Real Tamale United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium took an unfortunate turn as controversy erupted over the sale of unauthorised match tickets by some unscrupulous staff of the National Sports Authority (NSA).

As revealed in a statement by Asante Kotoko, these NSA staff members were apprehended with the assistance of vigilant supporters.

The statement read, “Management with the assistance from our vigilant supporters have arrested and handed over National Sports Authority staff who are selling unauthorised tickets at our game against RTU to the Ghana Police Service Unit at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.”

The club revealed this just before the second half, ultimately won by Kotoko with a 1-0 victory secured through a penalty scored by Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala, marking his fifth goal of the season.

While Kotoko celebrated their on-field success, the arrest of NSA staff has triggered outrage among football fans, prompting calls for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The controversy has cast a shadow over what was otherwise a successful match for Kotoko, who have maintained their impressive form this season.

Asante Kotoko secured a crucial victory against Real Tamale United, bouncing back from last week’s draw with Great Olympics.

The Ugandan striker, Steven Dese Mukwala, played a pivotal role by converting a second-half penalty in the 80th minute at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Coming into the game on the back of a 0-0 draw that halted their four-game winning streak, Kotoko displayed determination to return to winning ways. The match saw Kotoko as the dominant side, creating numerous scoring opportunities.

Despite having a goal disallowed for offside in the 19th minute, replays later revealed it was an incorrect call. Richmond Lamptey had another chance but failed to convert from a one-on-one situation.

The contest remained largely one-sided, with Kotoko in control and Real Tamale United struggling. The deadlock was eventually broken in the 80th minute when Yahaya Baba was brought down in the box, resulting in a penalty.

Mukwala, enjoying a fine run, confidently scored the penalty, marking his fifth goal of the season and making him the club’s top scorer. The victory propels Kotoko to sixth place on the table with 26 points, just three points behind the current leaders, Samartex.

Real Tamale United, on the other hand, finds themselves second from the bottom after suffering their fourth consecutive defeat in the league.

Bechem United showcased brilliance on Sunday, securing a commanding 3-0 win over Nations FC and closing in on the top four positions in the league.

The Hunters asserted their dominance from the start, with Augustine Okrah, Emmanuel Avornyo, and Francis Acquah each finding the back of the net.

Okrah opened the scoring just five minutes into the game, setting the tone for Bechem’s commanding performance. But the visitors got reduced to 10 men after Isaac Botchway was red carded early in the second half.

Avornyo added an assurance goal in the 86th minute, and Acquah sealed the convincing victory with a strike in the 90th minute.

The outcome is particularly noteworthy as Nations FC had entered the game in fine form, having not suffered a defeat in five consecutive matches.

However, Bechem United clearly overpowered them with a standout performance.
