Asante Kotoko did the double over Legon Cities this season with another win on match day 22 of the Ghana Premier League.

Augustine Okrah’s goal in the first half secured the win for the Porcupine Warriors as they moved up to the top of the table.

The Porcupine Warriors dominated the opening minutes with possession and were rewarded with a goal few minutes later.

Augustine Okrah scored with a flick from a cross from Fabio Gama which deceived the goalkeeper into the net.

The game was stopped in the 20th minute for the Muslim players in both sides to break their fast.

Shamsu Alhassan was replaced right after the break in the 22nd minute by Baba Mahama after picking an injury.

Legon Cities winger Victorien Adebayor was a constant threat to the defense of Kotoko with his trickery and skill but the Porcupine Warriors were up to the task.

Emmanuel Gyamfi missed a big opportunity to increase the lead for Asante Kotoko as his effort went wide in the 35th minute as he failed to put the ball at the back of an empty net.

Jonah Attuquaye tried to put the ball behind Razak Abalorah from 35 yards but his effort went off the crossbar.

Baba Rahman missed a glorious opportunity to level it up for Legon Cities following a brilliant counter-attack which was saved by Razak Abalorah in the 70th minute.

Asamoah Gyan was introduced in the game for Hans Coffie in the 76th minute. His first effort was a free kick which went off the crossbar for a goal kick.

Michael Ampadu was booked for a bad challenge on Fabio Gama as Asante Kotoko went on a counter-break in the 84th minute.

Kotoko held onto the lead to win the game by a lone goal after regulation time.

A late strike from Samuel Boakye secured a win for Eleven Wonders against Aduana Stars at the Ohene Ameyaw Park on Saturday afternoon.

Wonders’ slender win hands Aduana Stars their sixth straight away loss following the 2-1 win on match-day 22 of the Ghana Premier League.

Bright Adjei shot the away side into the lead after 12 minutes into the game with a header from a rebound after a shot by Nana Kow was parried by the goalkeeper.

Eleven Wonders responded 10 minutes later through Tetteh Nortey.

Clement Boahen was fouled in the 18-yard box and experienced Nortey expectedly converted nicely for his side.

After several failed attempts at goal, the first half ended 1-1.

In the second half, the game remained tight with the home team looking more like the better side.

With just two minutes left on the clock, Samuel Boakye scored what was the winner for Wonders with a well placed shot into the left bottom corner.

Currently, Eleven Wonders have jumped from the relegation zone to 14th with 24 points while denting Aduana’s hopes of climbing up the table as they remain 10th with 30 points.

Asante Kotoko SC have made a few changes in the squad that lost 2-1 to Medeama as they face Legon Cities FC this evening in Accra at 6 pm local time.

Right-back Christopher Nettey comes in for Samuel Frimpong while Mudasiru takes over from Emmanuel Sarkodie who couldn’t make the travelling squad.

Sarfo Taylor will likely make his debut in the second half when the need arises.

Anything aside victory will make matters more difficult for the coach and the club’s aspiration to win the league trophy.

Coach Yaw Preko has named Medeama SC squad for their tricky tie against Ebusua Dwarfs in Tarkwa on Sunday afternoon in a match-day 22 battle of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

The Miners are on top of the league after an impressive 2-1 win on the road against Asante Kotoko in Obuasi last week.

Left-back Bright Enchill is suspended from the match due to yellow card accumulation. Fatawu Sulemana has been named in his place.

Defender Zana Oumar Coulibaly also made the 18-man squad after recovering from an injury. He returned to full-scalele training with the side since he suffered the setback in his debut against Great Olympics on April 2.

Medeama will seek to consolidate their lead at the summit of the table with a win over the visitors.

The Porcupine Warriors dropped points at home against current league leaders Medeama in their match-day 21 fixture at the Len Clay Sports Stadium losing the game by 2-1 to surrender their position on top of the league.

And it looks like the honeymoon period for Mariano Barreto has ended.

After staying unbeaten in his first three games, Asante Kotoko have failed to win any of their last two games.

As a result, the Porcupine Warriors are no longer top of the table and will look to correct that when they face Legon Cities.

When the two sides met in the first round, a close-range strike from Ibrahim Osman gave Kotoko all the three points.

The 23-time Ghana Premier League champions will be hoping for the same result to put pressure on Medeama.

Legon Cities on the other hand are in deep trouble and could end the weekend sitting in the relegation zone.

The Royals are just one point above the drop and will need a positive result against Kotoko.

The Royals have been boosted by the return of Asamoah Gyan ahead of this game.

The former Black Stars captain made a return from injury to earn some game time against Dreams in that 1-1 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium.
