Ex-Black Stars and Fulham midfielder Derek Boateng arrested

Former Fulham and Ghana midfielder Derek Owusu Boateng was arrested on Wednesday afternoon for flouting road traffic regulations in Accra.

According to a press statement by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Derrick Boateng together with 35 drivers were arrested by the Accra Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department for speeding beyond the limit.

“The drivers were arrested driving above the legally specified speed limit of 50 km/hr at which a vehicle could drive in the city with the Laser Cam 4-speed detection device donated to the Accra Central MTTD by the BIGRS through the AMA.
 
“Notable among those arrested during the operation were former Black Stars player, Derick Boateng and security officers whose identities were not immediately known.”

31 out of the  drivers were later sent to the Nima Police Station and  processed to the  La Motor Court after which they were fined between GH 480 to GH660 amounting to GH8,460 whilst four are still pending before the court. 

Boateng won a silver medal at the 2001 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

He announced his international retirement in 2015.

Accra Lions hand Tema Youth first defeat of the season, regain top spot

Ambitious side Accra Lions handed Tema Youth their first defeat of the season and regain top spot in Zone Three of the Division One League after humbling the home side 2-0 on Wednesday.

The Abokobi-based club came top of the top-of-table clash and ensured that the young side return to the top of the standings for the first time in seven weeks.

Goals in both halves of the match reginited Lions’ hopes of gaining promition to the Ghana Premier League while playing delightful football to entertain even neutrals watch their match.

In-form striker Salifu Rauf provided the killer blow to theb title ambitions of Tema Youth in the 74th minuute after Oliver Amedor had given the visitors a first-half lead.

Lions inflicted the first defeat of the season for former Premier League side at the Tema Sports Stadium by totally dominating the match and proving their title credentials.

With eight matches remaining  Accra Lions return to the top of the table with 46 points while Tema Youth drop to second position with 44 points.

My Toughest Game so far was against Hearts of Oak – Umar Bashiru

The Enterprising midfielder has claimed his toughest opponents so far in the ongoing Ghana Premier League was their game against the inter-continental club masters.

Karela United midfielder Umar Bashiru has posited that their game against Heart of Oak at the Crosby Awuah Memorial park was his difficult game so far in the ongoing season.

The CAM park at Aiyinase has always been a fortress for clubs anytime the clubs visit the said venue.

In recent years, a team either draw or lose at the CAM park, until Asante Kotoko went on to pick a 2-0 vital away win this season at the dreaded venue

Hearts is one of the teams that picked a point at Aiyinase in recent years nonetheless, Bashiru said it was his difficult game so far.

Speaking with Adamu Muftawu, the 23 year-old attributed the intensity of the game was the key feature for his difficulty in the game.

“So far I think my toughest game will be, let me say, let me choose Accra Hearts of Oak.

“In our 1-1 draw against them in Anyinase here.

It was a very tough and very intense game so I will say my toughest game so far is against Accra Hearts of Oak.”

Bashiru joined the Aiyinase based club on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Asante Kotoko before the commencement of the 2019-20 season.

Bashiru has been an instrumental figure for Karela, amassing four man of the match awards.

Karela currently lies 5th on the league log with 42 points after 26 matches.

The Enterprising Midfielder has opined that the ongoing Ghana Premier League campaign is one of the toughest leagues on the African continent.

Karela United midfielder Umar Bashiru claimed the 2020/2021 campaign is one of the toughest on the continent looking at the intensity and the physical aspect of the league.

” I think this league is very very difficult, it’s one of the toughest league on the continent.

“You could see at the table we have about five or six clubs fighting for the title. Bashiru told Adamu Muftawu.

“At the bottom, we also have five or six clubs fighting for survival.

“So this league is very very tough in terms of the physical aspect of it and intensity. It’s very very great.” Bashiru added.

The former Hearts Of Oak striker believes that the former Sunderland and Al Ain talisman is the best to have led the Black Stars.

Gyan is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 106 appearances and Africa’s leading top scorer with six goals at the FIFA World Cup.

Asafo who is tipped for greatness indicated that his source of inspiration is Sulley Muntari.

The African U-20 Best player has signed a partnership deal with the biggest sports brand National Indian Knitting Enterprise [NIKE].

The Ghanaian Youth sensational Abdul Fatawu Issahaku goes into a partnership deal with the company that has Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos and other top players who brand themselves with NIKE sportswear.

The deal will see the player receiving kinds of sports memorabilia from NIKE.

The 17 year-old was part of the Black Satellites Gold-winning team in the U-20 African Cup of Nation in Mauritania earlier this year.
