Barreto names Asante Kotoko starting line-up to face Aduana Stars

Coach Mariano Barreto made one change to the side that drew 1-1 against WAFA last weekend ahead of their week 27 fixture against Aduana Stars

Razak Abalora has returned to the lineup after missing the last game.

As the Porcupine Warriors aim at a win against the Fire Boys this afternoon, a strong backline has been nominated as warriors with unpenetrating midfielders.

Nettey will operate as a right back with Ibrahim Imoro as usual on the left. Emmanuel Gyamfi on the flanks with Fabio Gama taking the number 10 role.

2020/21 GPL: Match-day 27 Preview: Hearts of Oak entertain Chelsea in Accra, Liberty host Dreams FC, Ashgold battle Legon Cities

Accra Hearts of Oak have a date with Berekum Chelsea on match day 27 of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians who have not won a major title since 2009 climbed to the top of the table on Friday after a 1-0 win against Eleven Wonders in Techiman.

Hearts of Oak have not lost a match since their 2-0 loss to Dreams FC on May 2 – having won four matches on the spin – their best winning run in close to a decade.

Kwadwo Obeng Jnr scored in the first half to give Hearts all the spoils. The former Wamanafo Mighty Royals (Nea Saalamina) – forward slid home from range after capitalizing on a mistake by Eleven Wonders defender Tetteh Nortey.

Hearts of Oak have lost twice at the Accra stadium (2-0 against Great Olympics) and (1-0 against Inter Allies) – but their performance in recent weeks puts them an urge. Robert Addo Sowah seems to have made the centre back position his own after slotting in for Nuru Sulley who was red carded against Dreams FC at Dawu. His partnership with Mohammed Alhassan has been immaculate – keeping four clean sheets and conceding two goals in their last six matches.

Berekum Chelsea is one of the sides who have yet to win a match on the road – picking only two points – against Legon Cities and Elmina Sharks.

Stephen Amankonah is the clubs top scorer with 10 goals.

The Blues have amassed 31 points and sit 13th in the League table after 26 matches in the Premier League.

The reverse fixture in the first round of the season ended 0-0 at the Accra Sports stadium.

The game which is scheduled for 3pm kick off at the Agyemang Badu I Park will be shown live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247.

In other fixtures, AshantiGold will be at home against Legon Cities at the Len Clay stadium in Obuasi. The Miners will face former coach Bashir Hayford in Sunday’s test. Coach Bash led AshantiGold to their 4th League crown. Legon Cities have been on a resurgence winning two of their last three matches. They are 11th in the table with 32 points.

Dansoman based Liberty Professionalswho have moved their home ground to Sogakope will face off with Dreams FC on Saturday.

Bottom placed Inter Allies should avoid defeat on Sunday to keep their chances of survival intact – as they come up against third placed Medeama SC.  The mauve and yellows lost 2-1 in their last visit to Dawu when they played Dreams FC in November. The Tarkwa based side have won three, lost two and drawn one in their last six matches and sit third in the table with 43 points.

King Faisal have a fierce test against Eleven Wonders at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman. Two points separates the two sides – as King Faisal sit in 15thplace with 29 points, two points ahead of Eleven Wonders who sit one place below – with 27 points.

WAFA clashes with Ebusua Dwarfs at the Red Bull arena in Sogakope on Sunday.

Finally, Bechem United who lost 2-1 to Dreams FC on match day 26, return home to play Elmina Sharks at the Nana Fosu Gyeabuor Park. Sharks lost 1-0 to King Faisal at home and would aim for a point the fray as hungry lions to devour their opponents. Bechem United’s enviable six year unbeaten home record came crashing on May 12 when they lost 1-0 to Hearts of Oak at Bechem.

Al Ahly clinch third trophy under Pitso Mosimane with CAF Super Cup win

Egyptian giants, Al Ahly, led by Pitso Mosimane, have won the CAF Super Cupafter beating CAF Confederation Cup champions RS Berkane 2-0.

Despite Al Ahly dominating possession in the opening moments of the encounter, neither side had created any clear cut opportunities.

The first chance came in the 28th minute when RS Berkane completed an organized counter attack, with the ball reaching Mouhcine Iajour who dribbled past Amr El-Sulya before passing it to Mohamed Farehane just inside the penalty area. But the latter’s shot hit the side netting.

Mohamed Aziz nearly opened the scoring right before the half-time whistle for the Moroccans after receiving a cross from Omar Namsaoui, but his header grazed the right post.

Just 12 minutes into the second-half, Mohamed Sherif gave the Red Devils the lead. Hussein El-Shahat gave the ball to Sherif inside the penalty area, the striker quickly turned and placed the ball in the far right corner with his left foot.

In the 69th minute, Taher Mohamed Taher took a powerful long ranger effort but RS Berkane goalkeeper Zouhair Laaroubi managed to save it.

Al Ahly continued their dominance throughout the game and managed to double their lead in the 85th minute through Salah Mohsen. Berkane were putting a lot of pressure on their opponent’s defense and the Reds took advantage of that by playing on the counter attack.

Taher Mohamed Taher took the ball from the middle of the pitch and quickly made a precise through ball to Mohsen who was all alone in front of goal. The 22-year-old, then dribbled past Laaroubi and calmly placed it inside the empty net.

With this win Al Ahly have now completed the continental double for the 2019-2020 season, after having won the CAF Champions League title back in November over arch rivals Zamalek.

This marks their third trophy under South African coach Pitso Mosimane, who lifted the Champions League as well as the Egypt Cup and finished third in the Club World Cup.

TOKYO OLYMPICS 2021: Japan To Vaccinate Participants.

The Local Olympic Committee of Japan are set to vaccinate participants of the Tokyo Olympics towards the forthcoming events in July.

Japanese LOC is on the verge of administering covid-19 vaccinations to about 600 athletes, coaches getting closer to 1,000, as well support staff, as of June 1, 2021.

The JOC will vaccinate those traveling overseas on the stroke of June at the National Training Center in Tokyo, Japan.

Earlier this month, the International Olympic Committee reached a partnership deal with US Pharmaceutical company Pfizer which saw vaccines to have been made available to all Olympic participants.

This mass vaccination will give Japanese Olympians enough time to fully prepare and vaccinate before the commencement of the games on July 23, 2021.

Study says; The Pfizer vaccine requires two doses to be taken three weeks away from the day of the actual event.

Team doctors and Japan Institute of Sports Sciences doctors have been called on to help give the shots.

Karela United continued their slumber in the second round of the Ghana Premier League season as they recorded a fifth draw in the last seven matches.

The Pride and Passion outfit have now recorded six draws out of the ten games they played in the second half of the campaign.

Karela was held to a 1-1 stalemate by Great Olympics at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park in Anyinase on Friday.

Diawisie Taylor scored his 16th goal of the season to the lead on the top-scoring chart before the visitors pulled parity.

The draw keeps the Dade Boys in the title as they remain at 3rd position on the premiership standings, two points behind Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko SC who are 1st and 2nd.

Karela trainer Augustine Evans Adotey made only one alteration to the squad that held Berekum Chelsea to a 1-1 draw last week at the Golden City Park in Berekum.

Striker Maxwell Boakye paved way for midfielder Evans Sarfo to come into the starting lineup.

Annor Walker on the other hand made two changes to the Olympics team that pipped Inter Allies FC in the regional derby last week at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye and James Akaminko returned to the starting lineup replacing Michel Otou and Kwadwo Boateng respectively.

Taylor put the home side ahead as early as the 5th minute of the game through a spot-kick.

Olympics levelled matters on the stroke of halftime with an intelligent strike from Abbey-Ashie Quaye following a beautiful run by central defender Razak Kasim.

The two teams tried to unlock each other defence to get the match-winner but none of the efforts could result in a goal.

Both teams will be involved in the round of 64 of the FA Cup in the midweek.

Black Stars to Begin Camping on Friday

The Black Stars of Ghana are set to begin camping on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Cape Coast.

The Senior National team are set to begin camping ahead of the two international friendlies which was announced by the FA some time ago.

The Black Stars will lock horns with the Atlas Lions of Morocco on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in Rabat, before taking on the Elephants of La Cote d’Ivoire on Saturday, June 12 at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana.

Black Stars coach, CK Akunnor will use the two games to assess the strengths and the weaknesses of his team towards the forthcoming FIFA 2022 world cup qualifies which is scheduled to take place in September this year.

The Players and the technical team are expected to assemble to commence preparations ahead of the two friendly fixtures.

Two-time champions Aduana FC will lock horns with Asante Kotoko on match day 27 of the Ghana Premier League at Nana Agyemang Badu I Park on Saturday.

The Ogya lads are the only side with an unbeaten home record in the on-going League – having won 9 and drawn three in the process. They began the season with two drawn games against Bechem United and Eleven Wonders but have since won a whopping nine and drawn one – (2-2) against Ebusua Dwarfs.

On team news, experienced forward, Yahaya Mohammed remains on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.

Their 2-0 loss to Legon Cities on Sunday was their second defeat at the Accra Sports stadium in four visits.

Asante Kotoko relinquished the top spot on Saturday after giving away an early lead to draw 1-1 with WAFA at the Len Clay stadium. Ismail Ganiyu scored a second minute penalty before Justus Torsutsey equalised in the 44thminute for the Academy boys.

Aduana FC and Asante Kotoko have a long standing rivalry –dating back to 2010 when the former first qualified for the Premier League.

Asante Kotoko have scored just once in eleven visits to Dormaa – leaving them in desperate need to overturn the record.

Emmanuel Gyamfi became the first player to score at Dormaa – as his 38th minute header from Abdul Fatawu Shafiu’s cross gave them a respite in 2019.

It’s unknown if goalkeeper Razak Abalora will be restored to his starting place after he was left out of the team by Coach Mariano Baretto last week. Habib Mohammed was preferred in central defence ahead of Mubarik Yussif while Felix Annan started his first game in 7 months against WAFA.

Asante Kotoko are in search of a win to reclaim the top spot. But Aduana FC looks hungry to preserve their unbeaten home run.

Black Stars to open camp Friday ahead of next month’s friendly matches

The senior national team, the Black Stars will begin camping on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Cape Coast.

The players and the technical team are expected to assemble to begin preparation towards the two International friendly matches that were announced a fortnight ago.

The Black Stars will take on Atlas Lions on Tuesday, June 8 in Rabat, Morocco before playing Ivory Coast on Saturday, June 12 at the Cape Coast stadium.

Karela United FC will fancy the chances of rekindling their league title chase when they host Great Olympics at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park this afternoon.

The matchday 27 fixture gives the Pride and Passion side a good opportunity to cushion their title hopes.

Karela are placed 5th on the premiership standings with 42 points from 26 games and are just four points away from the top spot.

A win over Olympics on Sunday in Nzema-Anyinase will see them close the gap on the leaders to just a point.

Augustine Evans Adotey and his guys have fared really bad in the second round of the season having managed only two victories from nine matches.

Despite the poor run of results recently, Karela have not lost in their last six matches where they have drawn four and won twice.
Top marksman Diawisie Taylor has scored in back-to-back games which gives him the confidence for Friday’s crucial encounter.

He leads the top scoring chart with 15 goals in 25 appearances.

Olympics returned to winning ways last weekend after beating Inter Allies FC to keep their title hopes alive at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Wonder Club had tasted back-to-back defeats to Aduana Stars at home and to AshantiGold SC at away before the 1-0 victory in the regional derby last Saturday.

Olympics are currently placed 3rd on the premiership standings with 43 points, three points behind Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko SC who are 1st and 2nd respectively on the table.

The Dade Boys are hopeful of getting a better results on Friday against Karela taking into consideration their away form in the league this season.

They managed victories against Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, WAFA SC and Inter Allies all at away this campaign and that’s enough motivation for Friday’s clash.

Striker Abdul Manaf Mudasiru has scored three goals in his last four games for Olympics in the league.
He is expected to play a key role for Annor Walker’s team if they should get at least a point from Friday’s crucial encounter with Karela.
