Chelsea Star Hakim Ziyech Ruled Out of Morocco Friendly Against Ghana.

Chelsea Star and Three-Time Eredivisie Best Player is ruled out of the Atlas Lions team ahead of the team’s friendly encounter with the Black Stars.

Following the UEFA Champions League Chelsea won last Saturday, Chelsea has given their players few days off for the players to rest and regain energy as they prepare for the exercises ahead.

Therefore, Morocco will miss the services of Ziyech as he [Ziyech] is part of the players who won the UCL for Chelsea.

However, Ziyech will be available for selection for the second friendly where Morocco play Burkina Faso on 12 June, 2021.

Ghana will lock horns with Morocco on Tuesday 8 June, 2021 at the Complex Sportif Prince Moulay-Abdellah in Rabat, Morocco.

Black Meteors Depart Accra For Japan And South Korea Friendlies


Ghana’s Olympic team have departed Accra for Tokyo, Japan for International friendlies against the Olympic team of Japan and South Korea

The Ghana U-23 National team, the Black Meteors are leaving the shores of Ghana for Tokyo, Japan where they take on Japan Olympic team, before traveling to South Korea to lock horns with the Olympic team of Korea.

The Black Meteors failed to qualify for the Olympic soccer after loosing on penalties to Egypt in the U-23 AFCON last year.

The team has been training for about two weeks at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram.

Head coach of the Meteors Paa Kwasi Fabin will use the games to access the strength and weaknesses of his team as he [Paa Kwasi] prepares a strong side towards the forthcoming All African Games which is scheduled to be staged in Ghana in 2023

Japan and South Korea however, will use the friendly matches to access their team ahead of the Olympics which comes off in June this year.

Ghana will play Japan in two friendly matches scheduled for June 4 and 8, 2021 in Tokyo before travelling to South Korea to play on June 12 and 15, 2021.

The Black Meteors have departed Accra for Tokyo, Japan for International friendly games against the Olympic team of Japan and South Korea.

Coach Samuel Kwasi Fabin’s side have been training at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram for the past two weeks ahead of the matches.

Ghana failed to qualify for the quadrennial games but will use the test matches to prepare for the next African Games scheduled for Accra in 2023.

The Black Meteors will take on Japan in two friendly matches scheduled for June 4 and 8 in Tokyo before travelling to South Korea to play on June 12 and 15, 2021.

Japan and South Korea will use the two games to test their readiness for the Olympic Games football competition.

Ati Zigi, two others join Black Stars camp for June friendlies

Black Stars Head Coach C.K Akonnor has called up Lawrence Ati Zigi, Joel Fameyeh and Moro Salifu for next week’s International friendlies against Morocco and Ivory Coast.

The trio who were originally not part of the team are in Cape Coast training with the rest of the squad for the International matches scheduled for June 8 and 12 respectively.

Ati Zigi who had a brilliant season with St. Gallen in the Swiss Super League comes in to replace Richard Ofori.

Fameyeh, a former player of Asokwa Deportivo scored 12 goals and made 5 assists for FC Orenburg in their quick promotion back to the Russian Premier League.

Seventeen players trained on Monday, June 1, 2021. They include – Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Razak Abalora, Danlad Ibrahim, Gideon Mensah, Andy Yiadom, Philemon Baffuor, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Agyei, Nicholas Opoku, Ismail Ganiyu, Emmanuel Lomotey, Baba Idrissu, Moro Salifu, Joel Fameyeh, Gladson Awako, Emmanuel Gyasi and Rashid Nortey.

The team will continue their preparation at the Cape Coast stadium Tuesday afternoon.

I Feel Sad For CK Akunnor – Mohammed Polo

The ex-Ghana International has expressed his disappointment and sadness relative to the appointment of a white man as the second assistant coach to CK Akunnor.

Former Hearts of Oak Midfielder Mohammed Polo is expressing his displeasure following the appointment of a Dutch trainer Patrick Greveraars as the second deputy to Ghana’s Head coach CK Akunnor.

Speaking with Kumasi based OTEC fm, Polo said the appointment says Ghana is incapable without the inclusion of a white man and that the white man will take over from Akunnor eventually.

“The way things are going show very clearly that we are not capable and I feel sad for Ghana Football because we cannot do things on our own without a white person. It’s very unfortunate where our football is moving towards.

The second assistant to C.K is coming to take over from him (C.K.), that is how I see it and I feel very sad for C.K. Akonnor.” He added.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association agreed to Akunnor’s request for the inculcation of a new technical person as Ghana prepares for the AFCON 2021 and the World Cup qualifies.

This saw the appointment of Greveraars as one of the two persons who were recommended by Akunnor to beef up the technical team as Ghana prepare to bring the long awaited fifth AFCON home.

Greveraars is a UEFA License A holder with over 25 years of worldwide top football experience.

Greveraars previously worked with PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto, Vitesse Arnhem, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Anorthosis Famagusta and Al Shabab Dubai.

I have done enough to earn Black Stars call-up, says Nunoo Sarpei

Uncapped Ghana youngster, Hans Nunoo Sarpei says his consistent performances at club level, especially in the just-ended season, are enough to merit a call-up to the senior national team, Black Stars.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder enjoyed 28 league appearances in helping Greuther Fürth secure promotion to the 2021/21 German Bundesliga.

Speaking on Citi Tv’s Tracker, Sarpei said playing for one’s national team is the ultimate reward for working hard.

“When I was playing for Stuttgart, I wasn’t given a call-up; I was disappointed and I assumed it was because I hadn’t played a lot of games.

“During this time, I wasn’t really disappointed for not making the national team because I had not done enough to deserve a call-up.

“This time around, I think I have done enough to earn a call-up to the Black Stars. I have worked hard all these years because of the national team and also to get the opportunity to play for big clubs.

“For me, it is appalling the way the big men handle these things because I am not the only player who is in this situation,” he stated.

Nunoo Sarpei joined Greuther Fürth after an initial loan spell from VfB  Stuttgart in summer 2019 and will be entering the final year of his contract in the coming season. It is however understood that the two parties are in talks over an extension.

I contemplated taking my life while in prison – Olympiakos Nicosia midfielder Kingsley Sarfo

Olympiakos Nicosia midfielder Kingsley Sarfo has revealed he contemplated committing suicide following his wrongful imprisonment in Sweden three years ago. 

The Ghana international was released two years ago on the ground of good conduct following his incarceration over a rape accusation which he vehemently denies.

The 26-year-old went through mental torture after he was released from prison.

He was jailed for two years and eight months in the European country for two child rape counts, a Malmo District Court ruled in June 2018 but his appeal to have the sentence overturned was rejected five months later.

The former Malmo FF star has disclosed the situation led to serious negative consequences – as he contemplated taken his life.

“I contemplated committing suicide. I went through hell and I am happy to be back playing football,” he told Pure FM’s Bright Kankam Boadu

“It got to a point that you feel like ending your life. But I am grateful for the opportunity to be here.

“I went through emotional torture. I have overcome the trauma and looking forward to continuing my career.”

Karela United withdraws Two of Their Players From the National U-23 team Ahead Of The Two Friendly Ties With Japan.

The Aiyinase based club has withdrawn their two players from Ghana’s Olympic team ahead of the team’s two friendly games with Japan.

Ghanaian Premier League Club Karela United is withdrawing their Goalkeeper and Striker Richard Baidoo and Diawisie Taylor respectively from the Ghana National U-23 team towards the forthcoming friendly encounters with Japan.

It is understand that the two players are integral part of Karela in the ongoing 2020-21 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Taylor is currently the top scorer in the league having netted 12 goals in 21 appearances for Karela and Baidoo, the goalkeeper has made 13 appearances, conceding 11 goals and kept 6 clean sheets.

Karela are 4th on the league table with 43 points.

Therefore, Karela will be needing the two players as the team chases success in the league and therefore can’t forfeit to let the players be part of the national team

A statement from Karela’s Twitter handle reads; 

“We have withdrawn our two players Richard Baidoo and Diawisie Taylor from the national u23 team. We wish the team all the best on the trip to Asia”.

The Ghana U-23 team will be locking horns with Japan on a double header affair on June 4, 2021 and June 8, 2021

Ghana winger Christian Atsu finally leaves English side Newcastle United

Ghanaian international Christian Atsu has finally quit English Premier League outfit Newcastle United after five years .

The 29-year-old winger confirmed his decision to leave the Magpies on Tuesday in an open letter to fans of the club.

Atsu’s contract expired on Monday and both parties have decided against extending the deal.

Atsu joined Newcastle on loan from Chelsea in 2016 but made the move permanent a year later following an impressive performance in his first season.

But Atsu became surplus to requirements at the club and was left out of the  English Premier League sqiad of the club last season which might have forced both parties not to extend the contract.

He thanked the officials of the club as well as the supporters who made his five-year stay a success.

“When I arrived in Newcastle almost 5 years ago, I was made to feel welcome from the start..by everyone at the club and especially by the fans. I grew to love the city and my young family feel very at home here,” Atsu wrote on Tuesday.

“Sadly, the time has now come for me to leave the club, so I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who is part of the Newcastle United family.

“Thank you to the Toon Army fans, a lot of whom I’ve met around the city. I will never forget my time in the North East and for sure I will follow the results every week. Thank you my Geordie staff, players & fans, it’s been a pleasure!”

In his five years with the Magpies, the Ghana international played 107 matches and scored eight goals.

Ahafo Regional Minister Hon. George Boakye to launch Youth Football Talent haunt Program

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Honourable George Boakye has said that he will soon launch a program to haunt for talents in football and other sporting disciplines in the Region.

He made this known during an interview with the media after he watched a home match between Bechem United and Elimina Sharks which ended in a 1-1 draw in Bechem.

The minister was impressed with the display of talents by the two teams, especially the home team.

He ceased the occasion to advise and encourage the players of Bechem United as well as players across the country to remain focused and disciplined to go far with their career.

Honourable George Boakye made it known to the media that he will soon launch a program to haunt for football talents in the Ahafo Region.

He explained that he was going to partner with the management of Bechem United, the various Municipal and District Assemblies in the Region, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Authority and other key stakeholders to ensure that this vision becomes a reality.

He appealed to stakeholders to buy into his vision, since it was one of the best ways to create jobs for the many talented players in remote parts of the Region which otherwise would never be unearthed without this intervention.
