Defending Champions Asante Kotoko defeated BYF Academy 2-0 in Bekwai to progress to the next stage.

Heats of Oak underlined readiness to win a trophy this season by defeating Liberty Professionals 3-0 to book a place in the round of the 32.

The biggest upsets saw Division Two side Kato Freedom Fighters beat Bechem United 1-0. Tema Youth thrashed Inter Allies 5-1. Dreams FC were also knocked out by Phar Rangers on penalties.

The management of Asante Kotoko have terminated their contract with the Brazilian striker after just three months.

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have abrogated their two-and-half year deal with Michael Vinícius Silva de Morais after uninspiring performance and gross misconduct.

Vinícius joined the Porcupine Warriors on a two-and-half year deal in March this year on a free transfer.

Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Mariano Barreto announced the contract termination of the 27-year-old attacker after their 2-0 win over Bekwai Youth Football Academy SC in the FA Cup round of 64.

“Michael Vinícius is no more with us. The club will make an official announcement on his exit in the coming days,” Barreto said after the game.

Vinícius, who has scored two goals in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season, has not featured for the Kumasi-based club after their match-week 24 game against Ebusua Dwarfs.

He was also absent from the club’s training sessions for an unknown reason for the past few weeks.

Vinícius joined Asante Kotoko on a free transfer prior to the start of the second round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season and has managed to score two goals in four matches 

He previously played for Fluminense between 2012 and 2014, moved to Criciuma before returning to Fluminense in 2015.

He went on to feature for Estoril in Portugal during the 2015-16 season and made a comeback to his home country to play for America Mineiro, Resende and Cascavel before heading for Linkoping City in Sweden in 2019.

In 2020, he transferred to Japanese third-tier side Grulla Marioka before returning to Sweden to join Vasalunds

Asante Kotoko record a 2-0 victory over Bekwai Youth Football Academy in the MTN FA Cup round of 64 fixture at the Nana Gyamfi Park in Bekwai to progress to the next stage of the competition.

The competition’s defending champions played as a guest to the lower-tier outfit in the Round 64 stage of this season’s MTN FA Cup competition.

Despite Asante Kotoko’s unimpressive form in the Ghana Premier League in the past month, the team stepped up today and played to the instruction of head coach Mariano Barreto.

Dominating play throughout the 90 minutes, Fabio Gama Dos Santos scored to give Asante Kotoko the lead in the 51st minute from the spot before Emmanuel Keyekeh 10 minutes later powered the Reds to wrap up an important 2-0 win.

Courtesy of today’s win, Asante Kotoko are through to the Round 32 stage of this season’s MTN FA Cup competition.

Ghana Premier League title contenders Accra Hearts of Oak defeated struggling Liberty Professional by 3-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium to qualify for the 3rd round of the MTN FA Cup.

Two early goals from Daniel Afriyie Barnie, and Kwadwo Obeng Jr gave the phobians a comfortable lead going into the Half time break.

Liberty Professionals, parading a side mainly made of players from their reserve team gave the phobians lots of respect in the early stages of the game, allowing the Accra based side to take full advantage of the game.

Afriyie Barnie capitalized on a defensive blunder from the left side of Liberty professionals to shot home the first goal in the 18th minute of the game.’

Liberty were able to hold on to the game for  some time forcing their hosts to commit some game time with some goal scoring chances that went wasted.

just before the first half whistle, Kwadwo Pbeng jr took advantage of a defensive weakness from Stanley Aniagyei to score Hearts’ second goal to end the half on a high note.

Liberty Professional returned to the second half not looking as a side that has learnt something from their first half blunders, the defence of the Dansoman based side allowed Afriyie Barnie to run pass them before slotting in his personal second, and the home side’s third of the day.

The rest of the game became more of academic exercise as Hearts of Oak pulled some men off the game to allow Abednego Tetteh have some game time.

The league leaders now wait for the draw for the round of 32 to know their opponents.
