Two goals in both halves from Ibrahim Salifu and Benjamin Afutu respectively won the evening for the Phobians who maintain their position at the top of the league log.

Hearts of Oak kept their Ghana Premier League title hunt in sight following their deserving 2-0 win over Medeama SC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Midfield talisman Salifu Ibrahim drew first blood for Samuel Boadu’s men when he scored on the 41st minute mark before Benjamin Afutu headed past Frank Boateng to secure the points.

Kwadwo Obeng Junior should have fired Hearts ahead on the 21st minute but he effort was blocked by Frank Boateng in the Medeama goal between Vincent Atinga booted the ball away to safety.

Medeama’s Prince Opoku Agyemang and Abass Mohammed pressed the Hearts defence but Robert Addo Sowah and Mohammed Alhassan defended gallantly to keep them at bay.

The opening goal arrived on the 41st minute following a high pressing game from the Phobians inside the Medeama box. Kwadwo Obeng Junior resisted the two Medeama defenders as he skipped past them with his nimble foot. The gangling forward laid an inviting pass to Daniel Barnie whose effort from close range was blocked. But, the block resulted in a spilled ball which only fell to Salifu Ibrahim and the talisman poked the ball home from close range.

Fifteen minutes after the interval, a set piece from the right was not properly dealt with by the Medeama defence and Benjamin Afutu showed up to fire the ball home with a flicking header for his 5th league goal of the season.

Right after the insurance goal Samuel Boadu withdrew attacker Isaac Mensah and introduced Caleb Amankwah as his replacement. The former WAFA man provided an extra shield in midfield and he gagged any free space within the middle for Medeama to exploit.

Around 79th minute mark Emmanuel Nettey was substituted by youngster Larry Sumaila who came on to play his first game in months.

Salifu Ibrahim suffered an injury and was replaced by Umar Manaf 4 minutes from time.

AshantiGold SC returned to winning ways on Sunday when the pipped Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 in a round 29 encounter of the Ghana Premier League at the Len Clay Stadium.

Seth Osei’s solitary strike handed the Miners all maximum points as they move one place up on the premiership standings.

AshantiGold interim head coach Thomas Duah made three alterations to the squad that lost 1-0 to Asante Kotoko SC last week in the Ashanti derby.

Samed Mohammed took the place of Frank Akoto who is serving a suspension due to accumulated yellow cards.

Stephen Nyarko and Kwadwo Amoako also replaced David Abagna Sandan and Eric Esso in the starting lineup respectively.

Dwarfs travelled to Obuasi without head coach Ernest Thompson Quartey who resigned from his post few days aback.

The Abontoa Abontoa Boys had just one change in the team that beat Aduana Stars 1-0 in Cape Coast last weekend with Moro Sumaila replacing Richard Addai.

AshantiGold were handed a real opportunity to open the scoring in the 35th minute after striker Mark Agyekum was brought down by goalkeeper Bright Quaye resulting in a penalty.

Agyekum elected himself to effect the penalty but his kick was superbly saved by goalkeeper Quaye.

Dwarfs came very close to getting the opener but goalkeeper Kofi Mensah with a stupendous save prevented Michael Ohene Asamoah’s brilliant drive from the edge of the box.

The Miners got the breakthrough in the 54th minute after playmaker Osei put them ahead with a brilliant finish following an incredible solo run.

AshantiGold piled pressure on the visitors after the goal looking for the second but all opportunities that fell their way were squandered.

Substitute Abagna with only the goalkeeper to beat failed to put the ball at the back of the net with few minutes to end proceedings.

Dwarfs nearly got the equaliser but a spectacular save by goalkeeper Mensah denied them.

Bechem United returned to winning ways after besting regional rivals Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday. 

Bechem came into the game determined to end their run of recent poor results.

Three minutes into the duel the Hunters scored their first goal through right-winger Clinton Duodu.

They didn’t relent after the opening goal as they continued dictating play and were rewarded with the second 20 minutes after the halftime break.

Defender Emmanuel Annor popped up at the right place to put the ball at the back of the net.

Berekum Chelsea could not get on the scoresheet.

The win ends Bechem’s six games winless run and sees them to three points above Chelsea who are two points above the relegation zone.

Karela United continued their impressive home dominance at the Crosby Awuah Memorial park with an emphatic 2-0 win over Legon Cities on match-day 29 of the Ghana Premier League.

The Anyinese-based outfit returned to winning ways after losing to Medeama SC at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa last week in the absence of their top star Diawisie Taylor – who travelled with the Black Meteors team.

Midfielder Umar Bashiru opened the scoring for Karela United from the penalty spot-kick in the 27th minute as Sylvester Sackey was booked for the foul.

After recess, Richmond and Antwi nearly got the equalizer for Legon Cities but his effort went wide.

Anim Cudjoe also came close to scoring but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper.

In the 66th minute Sylvester Sackey denied Karela United from extending the lead with some three great saves.

Richard Berko scored late in the game to seal the win for Karela United.

Richmond Antwi came close again after rounding up the goalkeeper but his effort hit the post.

The defeat also saw Legon Cities impressive run come to an end after five games.

Aduana Stars pushed themselves further away from the relegation zone after posting a 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Liberty Professionals at the Nana Agyeman Gyawu Park in Dormaa on Sunday afternoon.

The two sides locked horns in a match-day 29 battle of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

Experienced Sam Adams made his way past the Liberty defence to score the opener for the Ogya Lads in the 17th minute.

Twelve minutes after the break a Liberty Professionals defender was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box and the centre referee whilst the for a penalty.

Striker Bright Adjei elected himself and expectedly struck past Liberty goalkeeper Daniel Amissah for his 6th goal of the season.

Aduana have moved 7th on the league table and further away from the relegation zone while Liberty Professionals have dropped into the relegation zone.

King Faisal bounced back from last week’s 5-0 humiliation at Berekum Chelsea to record their first win in four matches after beating Ghana Premier League title contenders Great Olympics. 

Zubairu Ibrahim’first-half winner was enough for the InSha Allah Boys to secure all three points and boost their survival chances.

Despite going into the game without Black Stars goalie Danlad Ibrahim and Black Meteors bound Frimpong Boateng, the Kumasi-based based out produced a majestic display to silence e Olympics.

King Faisal started the game on a bright note, with Wadud Yakubu and Enoch Morisson coming close in the opening six minutes.

Two minutes later Morisson teed up with Zubairu for the opener, after his cross was perfectly met by the match-winnerer.

King Faisal dominated the first half and could have doubled their leahalfwayay through the first stanza but Kwadwo Frimpong’s effort went narrowly wide.

Great Olympics only chance of the half came through Eric Osei Bonsu’s freekick.

The hosts returned from the break determined to for all three points, with Paul Aidoo replacing injured Pius Baffour.

Goalkeeper Abdul Jabal Adams produced the save of the game to deny Maxwell Quaye in injury time as King Faisal returned to winning ways.

Dreams FC fought back to hold WAFA in t a 1-1 draw on Sunday in a matchday 29 of the Ghana Premier League at Sogakope.

The Academy Boys took the lead after 41 minutes when Augustine Boakye finished off an assist from Lawrence Agyekum.

Boakye drilled in a low shot to the right-hand side of the goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi to go ahead in the match.

Dreams FC pressed hard for me equalizer and before the first-half whistle, Dreams managed to snatch the equalizer through Ali Huzaif.

This was after Abdul Basit Issah failed to hook away a corner kick inside the box and the ball went straight to Huzaif who converted from close range.

In the 71st minute, Enoch Asubonteng is brought down inside the box but the referee shockingly waived play to continue.

The referee consulted his assistants and concluded it should not be a penalty.

Both sides created other goal-scoring chances but failed to find the back of the net as the game ended 1-1.
