Cristiano Ronaldo equals Asamoah Gyan’s record of scoring in 9 consecutive international tournaments

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has equalled iconic Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan’s record of scoring in nine successive major international tournaments.

The Portuguese star netted a superb brace in his country’s 3-0 win over Hungary on Tuesday in the EURO 2020 Group F opener in Budapest.

Prior to this, Ronaldo had scored at the 2004 UEFA European Championship, 2006 FIFA World Cup, 2008 Euro, 2010 World Cup in South Africa, 2012 Euro, 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2016 Euro, 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 World Cup.

The Ghana star, meanwhile, netted at the World Cups in 2006, 2010 and 2014, plus at the African Cup of Nations in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Gyan was the first player to have scored at nine major international tournaments for his country before Ronaldo equalled.

Like Ronaldo, Gyan is also currently Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in an international career that has last over a decade and a half.

Ronaldo, 36, who made his first appearance in 2004, has scored 106 goals in 177 appearances for Portugal, three fewer than Iranian Ali Daei’s all-time men’s record of 109 international goals.

I am surprised someone approved Dawu pitch for football – Kotoko coach Mariano Barreto

Asante Kotoko head coach Mariano Barreto says he is shocked the Dawu Park was approved by the Ghana FA Licensing Board to host a Premier League game.

The Porcupine Warriors secured a 3-2 win over bottom-placed Inter Allies at the Theatre of Dreams on Monday afternoon.

Emmanuel Gyamfi, Evans Adomako and defender Andrews Appau netted for Kotoko with Alex Aso and Andy Okpe scoring for the home side.

The all-important victory came at a cost as two key players of the club got injured.

Barreto attributed the injury of his players’ to the poor nature of the pitch in Dawu.

The Portuguese trainer believes the pitch is bad and not fit for association football and also a threat to the players.

“I am surprised why someone approved this pitch for football.

“I had two injury situations. We had to replace Ganiyu because of injury afterwards Evans also sustained an injury because the pitch is not good.

“I don’t understand how this pitch can be approved for a league match,” Barreto said in a post-match interview.

“Sometimes when we lose we try to find an excuse but I tell you this pitch doesn’t meet any of the conditions to play a league match on. I hope the Ghana FA and those who approve this pitch should also think about the players”, he added.

Andy Okpe wins MOTM award in Inter Allies defeat to Asante Kotoko

Inter Allies forward Andy Okpe was the star of the day despite the Capelli boys narrow defeat to Asante Kotoko on matchday 29 of the Ghana Premier League at Dawu on Monday afternoon.

The Fabulous club recorded a 3-2 victory over the relegation-threatened side to keep their title hopes intact.

Kotoko opened the scoring in the 26th minute after Emmanuel Gyamfi connected a headed pass from Adomako but Inter Allies levelled through Alex Aso.

Evans Adomako restored Kotoko’s lead before the break but youngster Andy Okpe who replaced Samuel Armah in the starting line-up grabbed the equalizer for the home side before Andrews Appau scored the match-winner.

Okpe, a former Nigeria U-20 player, was a handful for the Porcupine Warriors defence as his nimble feet and close control was too much to handle.

He was instrumental for Inter Allies on the day despite losing to the title contenders.

He could have achieved brace but lacked precision upfront.

Okpe joined Inter Allies in the second round of the season and been impressive so far.
