Ashanti Gold SC rallied from a goal down to obliterate Liberty Professionals 5-1 in the Ghana Premier League Thursday afternoon.

The Miners today played as a guest to the Scientific Soccer Lads at the Sogakope Red Bull Arena in a match-day 30 battle.

On the back of a slow start to the game from the visitors, Liberty Professionals opened the scoring through Simon Appiah after 18 minutes of play

Appiah struck a low freekick which beat the Ashgold goalie.

AshantiGold regrouped and on the 31st minute came close with an opportunity to equalize but goalkeeper Amissah pulled off a great save to deny them.

Four minutes later, the Miners equalised through Amos Nkrumah after a long spell of pressure.

The visitors took the lead in the 37th minute through impressive midfielder David Absgna.

Amos Addai grabbed the third goal for the Miners before the referee whistled for the end of the half.

Liberty went into the break trailing 1-3.
After recess, AshantiGoldd completely turned in their favour as they mounted pressure on the home side who failed to find an antidote to the play of the Miners.

The visitors netted two additional goals from Seth Osei and defender Frank Akoto to seal a big 5-1 win on the road against struggling Liberty Professionals.

The results leaves Liberty Professionals second from the bottom, just six points ahead of Inter Allies who lost 1-0 to Ebusua Dwarfs this afternoon.

Kwame Peprah scored from the penalty spot in the second minute of stoppage time to earn King Faisal a 1-1 draw with Medeama SC Thursday morning.

The 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 30 fixture at Akoon Park was originally scheduled for Wednesday afternoon but was rained off after a heavy downpour in Tarkwa rendered the pitch unplayable.

The game stayed barren until the 51st minute when striker Prince Opoku Agyemang converted a penalty to give Mauve and Yellows the lead.

Medeama looked to have done enough to bag all three points but they were undone by Kwame Peprah who scored from a rebound in the second minute of added time.

The equalizing goal is Peprah’s 11th of the campaign.

The 1-1 stalemate means King Faisal now hold 33 points from 30 matches. Medeama SC, with 47 points, drop one place to 5th position.

Maxwell Abbey Quaye scored the only goal as Great Olympics secured a 1-0 victory over Bechem United on match-day 30 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Wednesday.

The visiting Hunters were presented a chance to take the lead at the Accra Sports Stadium as early as the second minute when defender Jamal Deen Haruna was adjudged to have handled the ball in the Olympics area.

But Bechem captain fluffed the chance as his penalty got saved by goalkeeper Stephen Kwaku.

Neither side was able to score as the opening 45 minutes ended barren.

Olympics finally found the breakthrough in the 55th minute when striker Abbey Quaye unleashed an emphatic strike past goalkeeper Prince Asempa from inside the box.

The solitary goal victory means Great Olympics temporarily move fourth with 48 points after 30 matches. Bechem, on the other hand, now find themselves in 12th position with 37 points.

Berekum Chelsea opened a three-point gap with Elmina Sharks thanks to a 2-1 triumph on match-day 30 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Wednesday afternoon.

The Bibires – coming into the game from defeat at Bechem – put their noses in front with a Stephen Amankona free-kick inside three minutes of play at Golden City Park.

Captain Abdul Basit struck from the spot to put the game at 2-0 for Berekum Chelsea in the 61st minute.

The hosts looked to win the game with a cleansheet but Tahir Mensah – who was introduced into the game after 56 minutes replacing Baba Sule – scored what would be a consolation goal for Sharks in the second minute of stoppage time.

Berekum Chelsea completed their 30th league game 2-1 victors – their 10th win of the campain.

The one-time league winners thus move 11th with 37 points while Sharks – three points behind – stay 17th in the standings.

Berekum Chelsea winger Stephen Amankona was named NASCO man-of-the-match.

WAFA SC survived a spirited comeback attempt to top Aduana FC 3-2 at their favourite Sogakope Arena on match-day 30 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Wednesday afternoon.

Wolfsberger-bound midfielder Augustine Boakye shot WAFA ahead as early as the 6th minute after feeding on a pass from Godwin Agbevor.

In the 20th minute, Enoch Asubonteng emerged with a nice setup of Justus Torsutsey who bagged his 6th goal of the campaign.

Another assist came through Agbevor in the 37th minute, this time setting up Togolese full-back Youssifou Atte to give the hosts a healthy lead.

In-form winger Sam Adams managed to pull a goal back for Aduana in the 42nd minute.

Trailing 3-1, Aduana coach Joseph Asare quickly varied his tactics by pulling midfielder Prince Acquah out and introducing the experienced Tijani Joshua even before the halftime break.

The Fire Boys showed some signs of improvement thereafter as the momentum swing favoured them for most parts of the second half but struggled to make goals.

The hosts found themselves under pressure as midfielder Flavio Kongoza further reduced the deficit in the 80th minute.

With a concerted and disciplined effort, WAFA held on through the final 10 minutes of regulation and stoppage times and secured three vital points.

The Academy Boys now are now on 46 points while Aduana remain 8th on the log three points less after 30 matches.

Fabio Gama’s second-half penalty aided Kotoko to beat Karela United in the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday.

The Porcupine Warriors feared they would drop points when Diawise Taylor cancelled out Emmanuel Gyamfi’s first half composed finish.

But the Brazilian stepped up to score the winner from 12 yards after Kotoko were awarded a contentious penalty.

The win takes Kotoko to the summit of the table, three points ahead of Hearts of Oak who play on Thursday evening.

Knowing they had to win, Kotoko dominated and deservedly took the lead in the 21st minute when Gyamfi beat the goalkeeper with a close-range finish after receiving a brilliant pass from Gama.

But, Karela fought back as they grabbed the equaliser 16 minutes after the first half break.

A shot from outside the box deflected kindly onto the path Taylor’s path and he produced a fine finish for his 17th goal of the campaign.

Kotoko’s insistence that Taylor was in an offside position delayed the restart of the match.

But few minutes after calm was restored, Kotoko were awarded a penalty following a clash between Evans Amoako and goalkeeper Richard Baidoo.

Karela protested but the referee’s decision stood and Gama scored with aplomb.

Should the Phobians fail to beat Legon Cities, Kotoko will stay top ahead of Sunday’s title decider.
